Good point. She probably did see some tapes. But she didn't say he looks familiar, didn't she say his name sounded familiar? Alex probably talked about him at some point.

Can we assume that Alex and Jay were good friends before this, or at least bros? I think it's safe to do so.

Yes, so it would be natural for Alex to mention Jay at some point. Maybe they were talking about some trip or memories of school or something.

The only footage we've seen of them interacting outside the context of crazy Operator happenings and Alex being a Snippy Bossy Pants would be in Entry #20.

truth. i guess i just always assume that alex got super sucked into the idea that he might actually be seeing something real, not just in him imagination, so he researched to the point of insanity, found something out, and backed away. the tapes just rehinged it all, and jay began the usual debauchery of hunting down info.

which is the ONLY reason i don't think slenderman has control on alex, because of alex's hesitation before entering the thicket of the forest. this would presuppose that alex may know more about all of this voodoo than anyone would originally think. maybe this is a "hey, we need to talk" situation. but i do, for some reason, REALLY like the idea that slenderman just has control on the whole cast, and Jay's a lone ranger.
