I thought about prying mine open too but... I can't bring myself to do it ha ha.

Mine has never blinked and only the top half lights up. Took forever for it to do that too. I think some damage occurred in shipping because we know how gentle mail carriers are with boxes.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but since field winners are posting the goings-on of their iceflies here, I figured this was the best place.

I've compiled a list of the winners along with who all is from UF, mostly cuz I was curious how many UFers got the drops, but also in case this should be important later. The *** means that team or person is a member of UF. If the person's TSN name is different from their UF name, I put their UF name in parenthesis at the end. The absence of *** does not mean they are not on UF. It just means that I cannot account for them, so fill in if you know more.

Reportedly, ASD_TANK has one ???

EDIT: Made some slight additions. Will continue to work on it.

You won't be able to figure anything out by just looking at it. Clearly they are using a microcontroller, so the only thing that would help is reading out its code - if possible.

I doubt any of proud icefly owners would allow us to do that Smile

I finally got around to making a longer video of the morse code. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRSOfTUxRoo Everyone seems to think it's just says survivalcode.com But just incase here's a 5 minute clip of the sucker blinking up a storm. Please excuse the terrible shaky cam and my rambling about cereal at the end.

would it be possible to have a 24/7 live stream of the Ice flies Simutaneiously? because I think that would be the most effective way, if possible... to compile all of the morse codes together, seeing as how some of the iceflies blink differently/ in different parts than others....

I mean, I'd be able to see if there is some kind of transmitter or reciever. Fairly easy to spot if you have the eye for it.

When I first saw the icefly I thought of those Ambient Devices color changing weather spheres. They make other devices that gather data wirelessly and then present it to a serial port for customized use. That way they could customize the messages and not just have it repeat the same thing every time. It might also explain why we have to leave them on for a minute before we see anything happen and why some people see no flashing. Here's a link to their website - http://www.ambientdevices.com/cat/platform.html

if that is so try putting it in a cold room/hair dryer on it to "melt" it

or it could just update whenever there is a update to the ARG, which would mean check for mores code(big updates), or just a bright glow (when new content).

The LA Ice Fly still has not lit up, so no blinking action. I left it plugged in all night too. Maybe they each have timers in them and have different morse code messages?

Did you ever call/email support? They might be able to tell you what's up with that.

LA Ice Fly replaced!

This morning I received a text from the number used during the IceFly mission.

We have received word that your icefly was damaged mid-flight, so a replacement specimen has been prepped and is ready for transport. Please specify the appropriate time and location - a representative will be on hand to make the swap. The Human Preservation Project is moving forward.

Drop was arranged and I now have a working icefly. It lit up within a minute or two of plugging it in. I will report back on any unusual flashing...

Wow, that's awesome. <3 Had you contacted them yourself, or do you suppose they reached out to you based on info they presumably gleaned from this forum/elsewhere?

I had texted the same night that it never lit up but they said to be patient. But I have posted & tweeted since then that I'd left it plugged in and nothing happened. I think it is very nice of them to swap it out. It was a nice piece of 'artwork' even without light, but even cooler now. Cool

Ditto; maybe I need to be more persistent.
