I think that we will need better quality pics of the QR code, and someone with better photoshop skills than I to use it. I think from the second email I got from them they were kinda hinting that folks working at ColeFusion need to be more active (even though the higher ups seem to be pretty silent right now as well). I got another email from PP saying to check a post article from may that still has Ace Harrold mentioned as an activist. Im going to check and send an email, I sent one last night to Sandra asking why she changed her story and sent her the pic of the original.

phone info

Hey guys,
OK I brought the phone over to a friends house where we messed around with it for a while. Because there is no SIM card we can't send or receive calls. But I had turned on the phone many times to see if there was anything on it, and it was always completely empty. But I think it wasn't booting up right, probably because of the missing SIM card.

Last night my friend got it to load up all of it's old data. There were no contacts, but all of the old text messages sent and received were there. We went through them, it is obviously out of game stuff. But there was one thing we thought was a clue.

In the notes section there was a single note it said:
Quote:
49TEN Westmount West.

There is a street here called Westmount in the city of Westmount. So we jumped in a car and went over.
The street Westmount goes from about 4300 to 4898. There is no 4910.
Across the street is Marianopolis College. Since I believe this game is being run by a bunch of Concordia students, it would make sense that they were probably Marianopolis students just a year or two ago. So, There could be something hidden in their old stomping ground.

We spent a few hours going up and down the street and looking around the Marianopolis, but we found nothing.
The thing that makes it look like a clue is that it is written 49TEN, not 4910. When writing text on a phone, why take the time to switch to letters?

Then again it might be just an old note on the phone which is out of game content...

Christien, just curious, did you happen to look just beyond 4898 Westmount to notice what was there, approximately where 4910 would be if the street were extended? In other words, a building, lot, yard, or ? at the end of the street? Or is that part of the Marianopolis College property?

Excellent reconnaissance work this week, by the way. You're a valuable onsite asset to our endeavors. Smile Keep up the good work and hopefully get some swag eventually (besides a used cellphone lol).

Hi,

I am Christien's friend, the one who found the address in the phone.

We went to the end of the street, 4898, and went beyond it thinking the same thing you did. Unfortunately it ends at a cross street and there is really nothing beyond it (other than the next street). We nevertheless checked around for signs (short of going onto private property) and found nothing.

There is a small park across the street (between the 4898 house and Marianopolis) and also could not see any signs.

We drove completely up the street and checked around. The street is not very long (starts at 4300, end at 4989) ...nothing.

We went beyond the street itself to the next street that was inline with Westmount, to see if we could find a 4910 address. Nothing.

I am positive that the fact that the "TEN" is spelled out rather than being a number is a clue (the phone is an old phone and texting is done with the number pad, so spelling the number out is way more of a pain then just pressing 1-0). Also note that the last word "West." ends with a period. Also not something someone would casually type on a phone like this, so I am pretty sure that's to make it clear that the "West." is an abbreviation of another word. The only "Westmount" road in Montreal happens to be in Westmount (city) so I assumed that "West." stood for Westmount.

We walked along the school grounds in hopes of seeing a sign or graffitti or something...nothing.

Obviously we're missing something...

We need to put together that QR code I think, I tried but one of the photos wasn't good enough quality, and I don't have a good enough program to do anything with it.

Also, who got emails from paradoxpapers? I'm not sure these guys are for real. They aren't giving any new info and the web link they sent, as far as I can see is gibberish. They could be just someone who stumbled upon what we were doing. Don't get me wrong, they notice things, but I mean the countdown site hasn't reset either, and it was a long weekend here in Canada so I can't see anything really having been updated.

My thoughts: Stop3Points and ColeHardTruth likely were run by the same PM's that are doing ColeFusion, to create in-game opposition forces - since the game admins would realistically be the only ones with ready access to the newspaper site and the email accounts. Whereas those of us on this board are trying to solve the mysteries/puzzles as players. Paradox Papers appear to be independent of ColeFusion and trying to assist us. If this is accurate, that would account for PP not resetting the countdown timer or otherwise directly affecting CF's actions.

Hey Marduk, welcome to the forums.

Just to follow up on what he was saying, we spent almost 2 hours in the area. I'm pretty confident that if there was something there we would have found it. I'm really not sure what 49TEN means.
I still have a feeling though that there is gonna be a second drop for a sim card.

What Im saying is that Im not convinced that PP is in game. I mean, the counter has always reset, which it hasn't, and new groups have always been presented in game.(In the CJP) The link they sent is to some Geocities archived website that I cant see anything relevant in, and then they sent me this: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001558605044 .Now I don't have a Facebook profile that I am willing to friend in game people on, but from what I saw this is didn't seem in game (they haven't used Facebook yet). It all just smells of weirdness to me. We have the completed QR code now, (since the mail strike has ended), and it's probably best that we go from there.
I guess Im just weirded out because they used my OOG name in an email they sent out, it had always been Joseph before that email.

I could just be paranoid though....

You may have already checked this, but could 49TEN be their way of saying, go to number 49, then find Room 10, or Suite 10, or something? I don't know if this is the sort of area with office buildings, but could West then mean "West Tower"? Also, and most importantly, can you tell I've worked in a mailroom?

As for Paradox Papers, I reread their e-mail, and it does seem a bit off somehow. Maybe it's the fact that they keep winkingly acknowledgeing that this is an ARG? I clicked on the link but couldn't get the Wayback Machine to load, so I just loaded up the page as it is. I haven't looked through it yet, but I'll probably post again when I do.

I think Paradox Papers is probably a gamejack. Reading through the website it appears to be a decade old RPG that people were playing via e-mail. I looked at the names of all the listed PCs and NPCs, but nothing looked familiar. The "Home Base" appears to be in Las Vegas. None of the pictures load, and several of the links are broken. Also, they've used that old cold reading trick of keeping things vague and only stateing facts that we've already figured out. I'm a bit confused as to why someone would go to the trouble of gamejacking for this though? Maybe they think they can restart thier old game and bring in a bigger audience? Also, I'm wondering where they gleaned our e-mails from. Could we get some kind of head count of whose gotten e-mails from PP? I believe that not everyone who is playing is on every mailing list. Also, unless Section 9 really has hacked into my computer, you are correct, Rich Reder, about both CF and the resistance groups being run by the same people.

Edit: I looked at the PP page again and useing the Wayback Machine moved forward through time. Somethime around August 2003 the page turned into "McCragge Painting Studio's". So it looks like even the person running the game gave up on it.

I got the email.

Sent them a reply but got nothing back. Has anyone had anything we can be sure is IG from people since the countdown ended? I'm confused why the countdown didn't reset.

I got the emails, but I have yet to get a personal reply like they said they would do for those who emailed them back. I checked the website out and was suspicious but since I am new to ARGs I thought I wasn't looking at the right angle.

I don't think that the countdown reset because it was a long weekend in Canada, and we have the full QR code which will lead somewhere.I'm glad that I'm not the only one who is suspicious of PP. I'm waiting for a reply to an email I sent them asking a couple of questions about where they got my email and such.
