I'm doing the same.
Did anyone ever find a use for L3/fgg klj.txt?

Good question, I sent an email to Dan about it. Also, could that cipher be a Vigenere cipher? No idea what the passphrase could be though...

I'm going to stand by. Anyway, email update:

Quote:
I got word me and the other BODs and Fred will have a meeting (a telepresence video meeting) in a few minutes. This might take a while so I might not be able to respond to your emails. My programmers have arrived and will be working on the morse code.

If you have anything, just send me an email, it just might take a while before I may respond because of the upcoming meeting.

I don't have any good leads at the moment. I'm going to finish up my Howard Fair video today, and then finish some uni work. Good luck guys.

I'm also standing by. There has got to be something we are missing somewhere.

I think right now we're just waiting for word from Dan. Which, as it would come through Posse or Punxtr (they have email conversations going with him), means that we have to wait for one of them to log on. And we have no way of knowing what sort of timezones or schedules they are in.

I sent Dan an email claiming to be part of the team and asking for an update as his usual contacts were currently unavailable. here's what he sent me back:

I was able to email the rest of the team who sent me email, however I don't want to go into detail here again. But to make it short I'll just copy one section that I think will be very relevant to what you need.

My programmers were able to figure out the crypo they used on the code. We, however, do not have the necessary knowledge or tools to decode it. One of my programmers were able to figure out what that was based on the fgg klj.txt file which he says was similar to the German U-Boat Codebook used in World War II. He says the code we got from the morse code was an enigma code. However, he says he doesn't know how to decode it. he says it would be hard to decode and enigma code one if you have and enigma machine if you don't have the correct settings for the motors and plugboard. Check if Genus has left other clues on the configurations.

Update me when anything comes up.

Also got a reply -- this paragraph that Badgerconda got is the same one.

Please don't mess with the FTP yet, we need to resolve this as we only have about 45 hours before the rest of the company will take charge of the operations in this facility. We already have a plan, and I was ale to send it to one of your team. I hope he shares it with you. I just didn't want to go into much detail here again.

He sent me his plan to get in through the submarine docks. I'll try and figure out the enigma cipher.

Quote:
Sorry if it took long before I was able to respond. It was a busy day (or night). Of course, yes I still work. I am NOT and employee so I still work (and my staff, technicians and so forth) that announcement only applies to office workers and excludes people from special departments and assignation.

And that brings me to what our meeting has resulted in. Yes, that was a part of that. All employees (office employees) are temporarily required not to work. They will still get paid while not working (and having the time of their life) while the rest will still have to report as usual and perform needed tasks.

Also, in the meeting, I was able to discuss what has and is happening down here in the facility. They are forcing me to nuke open the facility, but refused. I asked them for at least 48 hours before they will nuke it with or without my permission. It's my asset, and yet the facility is still company property. So I'm doing my best and hoping that we can get this resolved in 48 hours. Furthermore, they required me to bring back the email services back of which we already did hours ago. The rest of the meeting was other less pressing concerns that no longer concern the problem we are facing. However, if ever I, or rather, we cannot resolve this problem in 48 hours I will be required to immediately fly back to USA before they nuke the facility. The operations will then be handled by another BOD despite my protest.

Now, I was able to speak with my facility design team and we have a plan. And it was all about something I forgot because it basically slipped out of my mind. It's a plan to use the submarine docks at level 15. It's not the easiest way, but so far it's the only way in. I have already dispatched a team that will dive in and attempt to get into the facility that way. The submarine docks slipped out of mind because this facility rarely uses it. The company only own two submarines and it's not really used. One is stationed here and another is docked in a US Naval Base (we're renting docking space) so the way in is getting into the docked submarine and they use the dock connection from the submarine into the facility. Right now we're still waiting for news about the team, they should be able to reach the sub in a few moments and they will report back when they get in.

It's a good progress happening here and I do hope we can get this done in 48 hours, or rather 45 hours by the time I send this message.

Also, my programmers were able to figure out the crypo they used on the code. We, however, do not have the necessary knowledge or tools to decode it. One of my programmers were able to figure out what that was based on the fgg klj.txt file which he says was similar to the German U-Boat Codebook used in World War II. Found this: http://www.bletchleycovers.com/Virtual_enigma/Enigma_Machine_Applet.htm# if anyone wants to mess around with it.

Problem is, the settings on the "machine" don't match perfectly with the spreadsheet. Haven't been successful so far.

also found this: http://enigmaco.de/enigma/enigma.html shows how an enigma works, so I think it was kinda neat.

however, so far based on the txt file, we need something has this rings settings... seems like most enigmas have rotors, SP (starting position) or initial position, and steckers or the plugboard... but where do we find something that has this rings? is it relevant?

Wikipedia:
Quote:
In early Enigma models, the alphabet ring was fixed to the rotor disk. An improvement introduced in later variants was the ability to adjust the alphabet ring relative to the rotor disk. The position of the ring was known as the Ringstellung ("ring setting"), and was a part of the initial setting of an Enigma prior to an operating session.

However, wouldn't A, A, A be the default (unchanged) starting position?

Hmm, there are either two or three trigrams. And it could be UKW B or C. That leaves a number of combinations. Working on them...

This one's quite hard.... We know what it is now, and yet we simply can't solve it... Still working on this one.
