this new chapter is crazy.

most new that since he started talking about his sister that she was one of the AI on the site. so durga=SP=melissa. so what is the SPDR?

This part had sad and funny parts. Sad obviously the glassing of Coral. But during the first part of the Jersey/Durga series when she was in the dispenser: HILARITY!!

Last week was about the impact of things that were bigger than you, things you thought you were safe from...

.. this week was the impact of the biggest fears in their lives. (Synthetic or not.)

But it was also full of totally contrasting emotions.. so sad, and so humorous, within moments of each other.. crazy. My eyes are still sort of wet, from listening to she_died again...

I think the whole Pious Flea = Covenant thing was a red herring, or rather a mass misinterpretation. This story, so far at least, isn't about the Covenant, it's about humans and humanity. I would be very surprised if the Flea did turn out to be a Covenant creation at the end of it all.

Onto some idle [SPEC]...
We've assumed since the beginning that the Flea's changing of Melissa's operational guidelines from 'survive, evade, resist, escape', to 'survive, evade, reveal, escape' was a bad thing because of the underhanded way in which he was doing it. However, it's all just a matter of perspective.

Let's say Melissa, Durga and the SP are part of the same AI, which is looking more and more likely. The Flea sees the SPDR running rampant over Melissa's memories, deleting the details of who she is in an attempt to get her working again. It removes the SPDR to stop this. It then begins persuading Melissa to seek, behold, and reveal the truth.

Melissa was a military AI aboard a spy ship, but now she isn't. Now she's a disjointed section of an AI, lost and alone. The only way to resolve this situation is for her to discover who she is - that's the truth. That's what she needs to find out. Her original mission is no longer valid. She needed a new one, and the Flea gave it to her.

That's why the Flea is trying to talk to the Princess - because she is another part of this, and the Flea wants to put all three of them back together. Why else would it transmit to Durga? Why else would it hide the Princess from Melissa's misguided attempts to contain her?

I guess this is a sub-spec, as it doesn't detail where the Flea came from, why it was put there, etc etc, so I expect it will be picked apart in relatively short order. I do also like the idea of the Flea being Herzog's creation, trying to reveal to him details about the artifact, so I'm not entirely sold on this spec myself, it's just something that crossed my mind. Very Happy

I don't know why, but another_name suddenly made me get all teary-eyed. It may just be that it's nearly 2 in the morning and I'm mentally weary, but for some reason it cut me deep... but earlier when I listened to it, I got nothin'.

Rose,
If we listen to the voice acting in the new Jersey audio clips and compare them the the audio we heard from the SP when we freed her, I believe that it is one in the same. We can hear a young girl coming through Durga's voice when Jersey is explaining where she came from and I'm sure it's the same voice as the SP.
