Hollow Needle email re: Sarah Wyatt

Dear Mr. Smyth -
Thank you for your message about our Hollow Needle Spring Newsletter.
As far as Sarah Wyatt and her artwork, the Public Library is supposed to be
posting a piece about her and details about what pieces they will be auctioning
off in their Special Fund Raiser at the end of the month. Unfortunately, you
can't always count on that Librarian, Mrs. Dobbs, to get things done as
promised. Hopefully though she will get something online soon.
Thanks again for your interest in our store.

Dear Katherine -
Thank you for your message about our Hollow Needle Spring Newsletter.
Just to clarify something that may have confused you: Joe Mulliner did not make locks; he actually was somewhat of a thief and has generated local legends calling him the "Pine Barrens Robin Hood." The lock in our newsletter is from a collection of his personal belongings.

The "Floating Maiden" piece you mention is actually part of my private
collection and is not a piece for sale by our store.

EMAIL: Phyllis Defends Herself... Anyway

From sjct@collectivedetective

Dear Ms. Cook-Thomas,

How very presumptuous of you to think I need to "defend my actions," as
you put it. Only certain romantic fools feel my husband and I did anything wrong. Everyone else in town is quite aware of the real conditions we found in this house when we acquired it. It was, to be blunt, a hovel, ruined by neglect and the slovenly habits of its previous owner. The cleaning crew filled four dumpsters with pure garbage. The scribblings on the walls were unreadable gibberish so believe me when I tell you no great literary effort was lost.

As for her so-called artwork, how was I to know the delusions of a deranged child would have value some day. There is a quality to her work that has come to be appreciated but it is so unschooled, so amateurish, without the mystique she has garnered it would still be valueless. People are so easily swayed by what they imagine are heart-rending stories. The girl was a reject from a hippie commune, for goodness sake.

Sincerely,
Phyllis Willingham

I apologize if this was discussed previously...

Considering the effects of the clay disk Wes found, could Sarah have had possession of one of these disks and her artwork an outcome of that madness?

If so could one of the disks be under Mrs. Willingham's barka-lounger as we speak?

Thoughts?

If Mrs. Willingham does have one, I'd have to say it's stuck somewhere else the way she's been acting.

Dear Sunny,
Thank you so much for your kind words. Those of us who are fortunately placed
in society are obligated to support our local institutions in any way we can.
Quite frankly, I am amazed by the sudden interest in Sarah Wyatt's work. In my
opinion, it is poorly rendered and amateurish but, then, I am not an aficionado
of so-called "folk art" so I am sure it's appeal is wasted on me. The "floating
maiden," as you call it, simply makes me queasy when I look at it.

Unfortunately, I have been quite distracted and fallen woefully behind in my
correspondence so I did not read your message about testing the key until this
morning. My dear, can you seriously imagine me standing out in the dark holding
that key in the moonlight? Such an act would be quite beneath my dignity. What
if I were seen?! No, no, I do not willingly put myself up for ridicule for any
cause. The key's value is in its antiquity and the folk tale associated with it
is charming nonsense. The very idea that it might actually glow is laughable.
Thank you so much for starting my day with a chuckle.

Sincerely,
Phyllis

This is the second time i have asked her about the Maiden that is next to her logo at the Hollow Needle. She has not given me any info. I wonder why the statue makes her queasy?
