Pooh-kah-reesh-toh-veen-yah-ray-doh-kwah-dink-oh-shtoo-voh-boo-teece-kah-pah-lease-toh-jew-ree-kay-say-dar-ah. The actual spelling used to be a state secret, but then I decided "Eh. Let 'em try."

And no, there are no plurals in Samesian. Also no possessives or verb tenses. And pronouns are for sissies. Samesian is like 40% inflection and frantic hand gestures.

Okay... NOW I'm impressed!

Have you ever been to Llanfair pg? Beeeeeeutiful!

Any suggestions on materials for teaching oneself Welsh?

Unfortunately, I have only had time to do England and Ireland. I hope to get to Wales in the not too distant future; part of my father's family is from the Dyfed/Pembrokeshire area, and apparently there's a castle that's attached to his family.

Well, if you're going to teach yourself Welsh, I'd make sure to get *audio* materials if you can't find a native speaker. The ll sound isn't as difficult as they like to pretend, but the u and y will get you if you don't have aural guidance.

After close examination of your vocab list, it appears that there is no grammatical difference from English as far as word order or inflection (in the linguistic sense of inflected). I was wondering why the adjectives were before the nouns. And I assume from your above transliteration that you're using standard Romance vowels.

For that matter, it's interesting that word-phrases such as "Bilaytoh = I do not know" bear no resemblance to individual elements that they contain, at least semantically. If "Dri = No", shouldn't "I do not know" contain the "dri" morpheme?

But if it's 40% inflection and frantic hand gestures, that would explain the lack of grammatical connective tissue. Smile

I suspect it may have something to do with staying on topic in a thread.

Here's the email i sent:

Quote:

Melissa-

Here is my submission demonstrating my special skills. I apologize but I was added to the ship's band/entertainment section at the last minute, I believe your count of total member may be slightly off; I see you have located 10 already, which was the standard complement. Perhaps I could be counted under rank and file instead.

I have just recently discovered your actions to contact the dispersed crew members of the Apocalypso. I recently made contact with my brother, Technical Librarian 1st Class Chad Haefele of the Greater Pittsburgh Axon Authority, who I believe you talked to earlier today. He directed me to send you my information with this picture, which follows:

Civilian Musician Todd Haefele

xxx-xxx-xxxx

I await further orders.

-Civilian Musician Todd Haefele

Here's the reply I got:

Quote:

Excellent work, musician.
I do love that song.

Ouch. That must hurt. But I suppose you can get the National Health to remove it. Although there's probably a bit of a wait.

No way... I think that's where my family is from! I'll have to ask my mom about it.

Okay, back on topic...

I forgot to tell Robynn that I stegged .txt files into each of the pictures for the SP, and as such she didn't mention it when she posted the pictures the other day. To be honest, I don't remember what is said in them... But those are the stegged versions that she posted, and y'all are smart people... Very Happy

So... Yea secret messages for the Sleeping Princess! What did you all do?

Lol.

Nameless Pete, before we get lassoed off to the naughty kitten pen, if you wish to continue discussing Samesian/linguistics/the price of crude oil, may I cordially invite you to SP references, AI personalities, etc. in the Interaction forum, where we've discussed everything from evolutionary biology to theology (along with plenty of good SPEC) without getting lassoed. Shh, don't tell the moderators.

Reported for Duty

Lieutenants Pericles and "Crazy" Ivan have reported for duty, showing our skills as a historian and pathologist, respectively. We, too, are unsure of our status; we sent our transmission at about 9:30 Pacific, but I'm not entirely sure we met the requirements--specifically, we did not send a picture of us saluting. We had assumed (stupidly, perhaps) that officers were not required to salute, and thus did not submit an image of either of us saluting.

I am assuming that this means our submission was rejected, even though we've not received a message from Melissa stating as much. We are both willing to correct this error, but it is obviously well past the submission deadline.

My questions are thus: Would it help if a crewmember trusted by Melissa spoke up on our behalf? If so, may I humbly request that such an entreaty be made?

~Pericles

That's Not Spanish

Maybe I'll post this here... I desperatly need to get ahold of Melissa. I did get a live call the other day went through the things, but gave Melissa the WRONG NUMBER! I've emailed the gmail account like 6 times and no response. Anyone have any idea? Or, do you think that she's getting the messages we send her but have no time to reply? I really need to get ahold of her...

You're welcome to take my spot. My talents are better suited elsewhere. I was filling in for the band until additional recruits filled the role. Since the crash, everybody has had to play multiple roles, and people have been [self-]promoted to higher ranks and created new ranks out of necessity. Glad to have you part of the crew. Now I can hang up my guitar. Smile
