Spec: Fairy Information

Since we mite be meeting some of these folk i thot i would do a little research

Interesting site about different types of fairies

http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/~pip/fey.html

they mention the Green Man and Puck.

Puck reminds me of the horse weathervane and the horses on the carousel

Puck has been with us in various forms since before the beginning of recorded history. He has gone by many various aliases like any good Trickster; Pwca, Phouka, Phooka, and Robin Goodfellow. But in all forms his is full of tricks and has a nasty habit of shapeshifting as well. The Irish Pooka would in the shape of a horse lure traveller onto his back and then take them on a hellish journey that would often end with being dumped in the sea.

This is from a differnt web site
Green Man

Hordes of information has been written on the Green Man, yet he still remains somewhat of a mystery. The name typically applies to an ancient deity whose likeness has been carved into older churches across much of the British Isles. Typically it is a composite image of a face formed for a mask of leaves or a face devouring vines and leaves. The image's meaning is typically one of life, renewal and rebirth, and inspiration. He is a personification of the union between mankind and nature. His association with churches is likely an instance of pagan gods being absorbed into Christianity to entice converts or to make their worship safe.

here is a list of fairies. I never knew there were so many

http://www.odyssy.net/users/erica/wicca/faerynames.htm

found this
http://a.rn11.com/yh/pu/yhgeointpu.htm
The Faery Folk are in another realm interconnected with our own. There are gateways into the Faery World, such as:

Crossroads
A gathering of three trees

Fields or Streams and the Meadows at the Edges of Forests

Ancient burial mounds

Megalithic sites

The Gates to the Faery World open at Twilight. This is a powerful time and is 'Between the Worlds'. This might be the best time to work Faery Magick. Also, leaving offerings to the Faeries will help bring them to you. Burying a silver coin or leaving an offering of flowers, herbs, and such will help open the path of friendship with the Elven and Fairy Spirits.

More information about fairies.. likes dislikes...very charming

Spec:Fairys and Dales email

Hello!!
Gosh i am having so much fun!

Well ya know i got that email from Dale and he said:

"Thanks for the information about fairies and the possibilities at the Aglaura Easter Egg Hunt. I've actually been doing research on the very same subject lately and had warned Sam of much the same thing earlier this week. "

I had given him information on how to protect himself from fairies and how to see them better.
So....knowing what we know about Beltain and all of that... if you read about the fairies their rituals are much like "human" rituals...or is it the other way around...
Well it seems like we are building an army of sorts to me...my question is...Are we getting to ready to do battle with the Fairies? Or we going to help them? If we have to battle them be forewarned..if we need to befriend them we better learn what they like...I am for the latter.
The more we know the better off we will be.

Was browsing through the new site www.faerytrail.com and came across this
Under directory of plants:

Foxglove gets its name from “Folk’s Glove”, where Folk referred to the Wee Folk or Faeries. It is also known as Faery Bells, Faery Fingers, Faery Weed, Faery Caps, and Faery Thimble which goes to show the extent to which it is associated with Faeries. Some believe that picking foxglove flowers offends the Faeries which can prove to be quite dangerous. Another tradition is that if the flowers can be used to get your child back if it has been stolen or replaced with a changeling. These are but two of many legends relating foxgloves to Faeries. They are a beautiful (yet poisonous!) flower that will enhance any flower garden. Not only will it provide a welcoming environment for Faeries, it is said that Faeries look favorably upon humans that grow foxglove in their gardens.

Seelie Court
The Seelie court, or the blessed court, a group of rather beneficial spirits, is friendly towards humans. It's counter part is the evil Unseelie Court.

Unseelie Court

(a)The Unseelie Court is the evil counterpart of the Seelie Court and is always unfavorable towards mankind. Members of the Court tend to be solitary or bands of Faeries called the Slaugh.

(b)The Unseelie Court or Unblessed Court contains the most malicious, malevolent and evil of the faeries. They comprise the Slaugh, or The Host, the band of the unsanctified dead who fly above the earth, stealing mortals and take great pleasure in harming humans. Some Scottish legends say they were all once members of the Seelie Court who fell from grace.

Slaugh
The Slaugh are the most formidable of the Scottish Highland Faeries. Translated, the Slaugh means the Host, which is a euphemism to avoid invoking them with the mention of their name. While some scholars believe they are fallen angels that roam the midnight skies of the earth searching for lost souls, they are more appropriately the Unforgiven Dead.

The Seelie Court and its counterpart, the Unseelie Court are often at war,and humans may get caught in the middle of such battles.

Ghostly beings with red ears

In the chat with Dale, he mentioned that at one point in his journey he was being
chased by ghostly beings: " A dark forest and I'm running sweaty and scared. Around
me, nine ghostly white shapes tinged with red are running furiously, right beside
me and getting closer by the moment. They are herding me towards something and as
they get closer I see their ears, burning red like flames and their eyes, black as
the night.
I think these might be the Cwn Annwn, the Hounds of Annwn. Annwn is the Otherworld
or underworld and Arawn is the king. Arawn had a pack of pure white dogs with red
ears. The dogs would herd the souls of the dead to the Otherworld. You can find
more info by searching 'red eared dogs of annwn' on cluesearch.

TRIVIA Annwn

This description by Brian Edward Rise makes some interesting
points of contact with our situation.

Quote:

An underground Netherworld region found in Welsh legend. Surviving from pre-Christian Celtic
mythology, its immortal inhabitants are the fair folk, demons or thinly disguised deities depending on
the viewpoint. Neither Heaven nor Hell in the Christian sense, humans can enter spiritually or
corporeally.

Annwn, or Annwfn, is ruled by Gwyn ap Nudd or Gwyn, son of Nodons, a briton god whose temple
was at Lydney in the forest of Dean. He often appears among mortals to meddle in their affairs.
Found at Arthur's court in Culhwch and Owen, where God is said to have given him dominion over
the demons, "lest this world be destroyed." Folklore transforms him into the leader of the Wild Hunt,
riding through the clouds raising human shades, along with the red-eared hounds of Annwn and
occasionally by the undead Arthur himself.

There are various entry points into Annwn, namely Lundy Island and Glastonbury Tor. There is a
legend of an itenerant Welsh saint named Collen entering Gwyn's palace within the Tor in order to
banish him by sprinkling holy water around.

Contained within the alleged Book of Taleisin is "The Spoils of Annwn," an obscure, inauthentic
Welsh poem dating from perhaps the tenth century. It is the tale of a raid on the part of Arthur and
his knights through the underworld, questing for a magical, talismanic cauldron in the custody of nine
maidens. Only seven survive this perilous expedition. Due to the pagan substance of the poem, it has
been claimed to be a foreshadowing of later Grail Quests. The number nine relates to real groups of
nine priestesses in pre-Christian, Celtic society. Geoffrey of Monmouth tells of a sisterhood of nine
led by Morgan le Fay in his poetic Vita Merlini. The coven was located on the Isle of Apples, or
Avalon, another otherworld sometimes identified with Annwn.

who the faries may take..

I read this and found it interesting...

In some traditions, however, it's simply the beauty of the children that attracts the fairies, who also kidnap pretty young women, artists, and musicians.

Nine Ladies of the Lake

I did a search here to see if this has been mentioned before, but didn't see anything. Hit me with a fish if so Very Happy

Below are the names of the nine Ladies of the Lake:

1. Igraine
2. Guinevere
3. Morgan (I know she has been mentioned before)
4. Argante
5. Nimue
6. Enid
7. Kundry
8. Dindraine
9. Ragnell or Raghnell

Don't know how this helps, but it deals with the Lady of the Lake theme and nine from the manuscript page. Not that they go together of course....
