His email is hex for scimitar. I just straight up insulted his punk ass.

Wasn't there a call transcript in the previous episode that had someone who called LAINSY that; who refused to call it a "her?" Didn't Dan say that he might be from that company they contracted LMAO to? Or am I getting it confused with someone else... Perhaps they're attempting a takeover?

EDIT: Oh, and, about the email, Dan seemed to trust Genus, and he was telling us the same thing. That's a pretty big reason to do what he says. However, Genus was suffering with extreme hunger by that time and might have been semi-delusional. This "Scimitar" guy might just be taking advantage of that. That's a pretty big reason to not do what he says.

Oh, man, am I indecisive... as always...

ah, so then this scimitar guy is someone very relevant to what's happening then? let me check back on that call log on ep1

EDIT: just checked, if this guy is the same as that guy from the call, then he seems to be actually from failtech itself. He's asking for the level 5 default password in the transcript. I suppose who ever he was talking to was the inventor of LAINSY? or maybe a part of the team who made LAINSY? I don't know. He seems to really hate LAINSY so much.

And that makes sense if he is the same guy, then, he wants to reboot lainsy since he hastes it so much? a valid reason not to follow what he wants

Ah. If that's the case, then I vote we tell on him to Dan. Cool

EDIT: Typed up a message to be accompanied by a forwarded copy of that message, feel free to provide input before I send it:
Quote:
We received this email from an encrypted address (the address is hex for "scimitar") asking us to reboot LAINSY. This was the same thing Genus asked us to do. While Genus does seem to be in your trust, he was very food-deprived at that time and might not have been thinking straight. Plus, the person in this email referred to LAINSY as an "it." This might very well be the same hysterical person from the call logs we uncovered while moving through the remnant website's security levels. If this is the case, he might be simply using Genus' hysteria against us to try and get us to do what he wants. We have decided not to take this risk, and instead run this email by you first.

Also, Dan emailed us saying:
Quote:
Sorry it took me a while to check back on you guys. Everything's going good down here, and my technicians are almost done with the first batch of file recovery. Seems like they have uncovered some files that might be of help. I'll pass them on once they complete it.

Has everyone been able to read my report for you guys? I haven't heard much from you guys, so I was wondering why.

EDIT2: And, another message from Scimitar:
Quote:
Oh please, as if intercepting his message wasn't funny enough. Do you really think he can give anything useful? Anyways, back to watching you guys do the work.

EDIT3: On second thought, if Scimitar can read Dan's outgoing emails, then perhaps he can read the incoming as well. We should find a more secure method of online communication and send him instructions to contact us with it over the phone.

Why not leave a voicemail for him about this?

Well, yes, we could. However, I was thinking more about the files he wanted to send us. We don't know what those files are, so I don't think it's a good idea to let scimitar see them. They might be something of importance that could endanger the company (or Genus, if Scimitar doesn't really know where he is already).

The only thing I can come up with that comes close to email and can attach files is Google Wave. As far as I know, that can't be "intercepted." Well, not without hacking freaking GOOGLE, that is. Very Happy

We could send him a voicemail informing him of the situation and telling him to set up a Wave address (or some other secure online communications medium of his choice, I guess) and send us a message with it so that we can give him the email transcript.

C'mon, guys! I need feedback! Is this a good idea or not? I need to know so that one of us can make the call. I'm not going to do something game-changing without the group's approval, but we need to do this before he sends those files if we're going to do it at all.

No, they decided to keep it up until someone took the open-source implementation of the code that they released and used it to create a suitable replacement.

Well, I suppose that's ok then. You guys are the ones who will contact him anyways, hehehe, maybe ask Dan then? propose it to him

Alright. Then we should make the call.
Only problem is that I am no longer in a good position to make a phone call. I was earlier, but now I have to go do some things. If no else has called by the time I get back (my best guesstimate would be in 50 minutes), I'll go ahead and call.

EDIT: Just FYI, my Wave address is thelurkingdukeSPLATgooglewave.com

Have we had a reason to activate LAINSY's reboot sequence? So far things don't necessarily seem that bad.

Hey guys, sorry for taking so incredibly long (I'm actually still not done with everything I had to do quite yet), stuff just kept coming up right and left that I had to deal with. Dan sent us another email. Thankfully, one of the technicians noticed the email surveillance and Dan switched to a more secure network. As this is now the case, I will forget about that phone call (nuts, I was looking forward to using Wave in an ARG XD), and send him the forwarded copy of the email sent to us by Scimitar along with my original message.

EDIT: sent. Also, for those who have yet to make it to Dan's email blast list, here is his message:
Quote:
I have posted on the secure file storage site a file we recovered. This file is the one in it's best state. Look for the file at the Secure File Storage area of the website at /sfs then access /L6 then open up my folder /millerfiles then the folder I made for you guys /experts. It shouldn't be hard to find.

We can't make up what this is, my technicians did their best and they can't figure out what this is. They recovered this file from the files that Genus has deleted from his account in the secure file storage. I am currently connected through my personal network so that no one can intercept my email. My technicians informed me about some anomaly in the FAILTECH network, so have to take some precautions. We haven't ejected the anomaly, yet, as my technicians are still observing it.

Oh, and the password for the L6 is
username: experts
password: birdwalk

Good luck!

EDIT2: His reply:
Quote:
Good! Thanks, at least we now have a lead on who is behind in the weird anomaly in the network right now. It's also a good thing you didn't follow what he wanted. I think I've already stated the consequences of this happening. And if does happen, I and my technicians will right in the middle of it. Being at the Antarctica Facility might be safe, but if you do reboot her, the safe locks at the bottom of the facility will be unlocked and the remaining samples of biohazard material will escape, such as the FOxR-B. Without LAINSY to contain any biohazard leaks, it will certainly kill me and all my staff here in the facility and risk the chance for any biohazard to escape the facility and infect the world.

We will put this case under supervision. If this guys sends you any other message, make sure you inform me. This guy is crazy. If he does know where Genus is, he should tell us and also tell us who's responsible for all of these troubles!

Looks like we made the right call.

Can anyone make heads or tails of the file Dan uploaded? I am.... poor. with codes and the like.

Also, I'm starting to wonder if failtech aren't actually the bad guys here. Dan's been nice to us so far, but the big scary science-experiment-corporation is rarely the good guy in any story, and Genus must have run off for a reason. Maybe Genus is our friend with the anonymous email?
