New formspring update- 175,000 apparently doesnt exist? What does this mean?

"Does everybody lie? I think so. Even you lie.

Your right. 175,000 doesn't even exist."

I think the "investigation" that the guy from taringa made, has some value.

This is too fishy for it not to be a giant source clue/could give further insight as to what 8*3*11 is.

I think it's a lie. Therefore 175,000 does exist... isn't this supposed to be the person answering the questions?

A Few Observations

On Formspring they only post negative replies - I've read through most of the answers and cannot recall them ever giving positive feedback. They're purposefully eliminating dead ends while not affirming any correct guesses from the outside, only suggesting their answers are somehow significant clues.

We know they consider this to be "positive" and possibly life-changing, or at least perspective-changing. We know they believe August 3rd is the "only time" they can do this. We can guess they are most likely young people of a fairly conservative background - spelling and vernacular choices, use of sarcasm, cultural references and what personal information they've supplied (don't smoke, drink coffee, obey laws, etc)

We know there is an obvious link to USF, as well as the greater Houston area, as well as South America and possibly Germany.

They claim to have a primary member in South Africa. Others have noted how dense the activity is in South America, specifically in Argentina. These two countries do have links to post-WWII nazi party members. Just an observation.

Aside from references to the Bible, they also have an interest and knowledge of astronomy, if not astrology. This could coincide with the date of 8.3.11 being "the only time" to go through with whatever this is. That, or a due date to turn in their research paper...

Although they claim to have operatives everywhere they have yet to post photos taken outside these areas. I live in Los Angeles and haven't seen one single Belle flier posted anywhere. Can people in other major cities report on what they've actually seen? Oddly the 8-3-11.info site hasn't posted any new "sightings" though they must be receiving loads of pictures, judging by the amount of traffic and interest this is getting.

Right now the common, reoccuring themes I see are Christianity, Astronomy and Nazi Germany.

The answered questioned have been edited in the last hour or so... there were some new questions answered which disappeared shortly after they were answered, and then a bunch of previously answered questions got deleted to bring up the Michigan question closer to the top, and the fact that this is the opposite of misleading.

Any thoughts? Michigan is important in this?

Sorry for the (perhaps) obvious, but does anyone but me have the formspring account on an rss feed? i'm seeing some stuff that's not showing up there, and it's confusing me.

are these things that they've posted and then deleted, or are they just in the wrong order? when i click through, i get a "missing=true" error URL.

on my reader, i see (read bottom to top for timeframe correctness):

"if becky had nothing to do with the group how do you know we r talking about 36.000? (by baritonoseba)
Because we've gotten about 30 questions asking about it and referring to her as 36,000."

"Hi Becky. Gotcha!
by 8X3X11
There is nobody in our group named Becky. 36,000 is in Africa."

"f***ing mormons!
by 8X3X11
This has nothing to do with those people."

"what does the human gnome has to do with this?
by 8X3X11
What? Nothing."

"taringa.net (an argentinan social network) cant see the carpets in the background of the michigan guy photo we cant read "justice" 2 times and something like motosports you have something to tell about this???
by 8X3X11
Those binders are not important."

"If he's South American, why the files have tags written in English?
by 8X3X11
We misread this question before. We suppose he isn't South American."

"why 11 is your favorite number?? (by Angilu)
by 8X3X11
We were born on 11•11 at 11:11A.M."

anyone have any insight?

Michigan.png's alt text is Burnings. This has to be something, definetley. Too much emphasis on the Michingan question...

I think the "investigation" that the guy from taringa made, has some value.

yeah, i'd say that about takes care of that, as far as identifying roughly who's responsible for the game, unfortunately (i say 'unfortunately' because it's always a little bit of a let-down to see the man behind the curtain, you know?).

in my case, i'd say my sense of mystery here has been pretty much destroyed. the 'game' is still an interesting thing as a social phenomenon in itself. more on that below.

and it's a huge cautionary tale to anyone else who thinks about making one of these things: if you make one of these games, people will do whatever they can to find you and violate your privacy, even if it means calling your family and posting your contact information on the net. so take care.

here's where i think that cracking the game should go next, if we didn't already know now who's putting this together: the combination of image names and alt texts clearly suggests a kind of cipher (a goes to b, b goes to c, and so on). the letters 'i' and 'j' are apparently spelled out, for some reason--at least in the latest version of the cipher, because they weren't spelled out for phrases like 'casting' in the first 'leaked' image. at least, the image of a taxi called 'tax' with text 'eye' pretty clearly indicates that something is significant about spelling out the letter i for some reason. the whole thing with doubling letters adds another potential twist.

but here's the problem: figuring out a complicated cipher takes time and energy, and it requires a certain level of trust on the part of the decipherer, who has to believe that a coherent message can actually be extracted from the code. i don't trust the 8 3 11 crew to have encoded a decipherable message that i would be able to crack in my lifetime. in fact, all of the decoded messages we've seen have been leaked by the 8 3 11 team itself. either there is no message to decrypt, the encryption was done inconsistently, or the encryption is so convoluted as to be unbreakable with such a small set of sample messages to work with.

so what if it *is* some kind of social experiment? i find that idea intriguing, because it would certainly explain a lot of the things that others have pointed out, including the weird question 'how did you hear about us?'

but my problem with this, frankly, is that the type of people who would be interested in such an experiment (psychologists, sociologists, et cetera) tend to be fairly unintelligent, and even if this is a fake-out it's clearly a very well-designed one. i guess i have a hard time accepting the idea that a team of shrinks would be smart enough to put all of this together. not that there aren't some very clever ones out there in the universe. i'm sure there must be some, somewhere. but this strikes me as way too sophisticated. just my opinion.

oh well. good game, proffitts, and i'm sorry to see that it's taken the turn it has.

That "investigation" is from Forocoches, published much earlier, that user did copy&paste from Forocoches
