No, it's my fault. I should have read the sticky more carefully and let someone else fall on the sword. I didn't read the stickies that carefully -- I honestly only skimmed them. I should have paid better attention and so I screwed up. But that being said, I could have deleted my post if no one else had replied. By being snarky in-topic, rather than sending me a PM that said, "Hey Mandie, pull your post so the OT can be deleted." -- I was unable to delete my post and now the thread is here forever.

Trolls are gonna troll -- it's what they do. Can't expect them to be better'n what they are.

And also hopefully ToTheLarp will be banned again, as soon as possible.

I expected a few people to just skim over the stickies, honestly. I did as well when I first got here. Hell, I was the first responder in the first topic included in the F.E.C. ( A fact that I do not fail to see the irony in, given that I created the Fake Entry info topic. )

I sent him a PM right after he posted to this thread, but either he didn't see it or didn't care.

Either way, if he had seen it he could have deleted his post before anyone responded. Unforum allows you to delete a post before anyone replies. After they reply, you can't delete only edit. If he'd been able to delete before someone (and I'm really not trying to be rude or snotty so please don't see it as such) chastised him for not reading the sticky then there would be no reply post and the thread could have gone.

I think that we should ammend the sticky or merely pass the word that trolls should not be replied to -- yes indeed -- but that it is equally counter-productive for people who know better to chastise that person in-thread, thereby not allowing them to fix their mistake and for the thread to go the way of the dodo. That we should all agree to just send PM's to people to explain and ask them to delete their reply so that the thread can go. Then we'd solve several problems at once: the troll thread having to stay around due to unforum's rules, mods having to be RIGHT on top of these threads in order to get rid of them before people who don't know any better reply to them, and having to lock and keep them from now until the end of time. It also allows us to be -nice- to people who don't know any better and not flay them in front of the whole forum for what is a simple and easy to fix mistake, and allows the person who is in the wrong to learn from their mistake without feeling like a complete asshole in front of the whole world.

Does this make sense? Am I wrong in my understanding of both the existing rules and how the unforum fundamentally operates?
