This would probably be the most reasonable theory for the Operator symbol IMO. I did not come up with this theory, t3hkender did.

Here it is, from page 6 of the "How do you defeat the Slenderman" thread (or something like that):

t3hkender wrote:
My favorite concept of the Slender Man is that he exists (or at least operates) as a memetic horror: "He can only get you if you think about him. Now try not to think about him." Kind of like the Game (sorry, I lost) but it's trying to kill you.

Unfortunately, a number of things exist that make it difficult, if not impossible, to forget about the Slender Man: The Operator Symbol acts as a spontaneous reminder of him, and even without it being drawn, etched and flashed all over the place, similar shapes occur innocently all the time: drainage valves often use a wheel with X-shaped cross bars, railroad signs bear a striking resemblance, and the spraypainted markings they use on streets for construction purposes (at least here in the States, in Oregon) all come to mind as common examples.

Another challenge exists for Jay and Alex in particular: ToTheArk. I suspect that ToTheArk is someone (or multiple someones) who are stuck in a loop of unhappiness unable to put the Slender Man out of their minds: to that end, they seek the help of Jay and/or Alex, who they believe will show them the way to rid themselves of the Operator (metaphorically, lead them "to the ark"). Unfortunately for our heroes protagonists, ToTheArk's constant reminders of our Tall Friend make it impossible to avoid him.

I didn't think anyone was specifically "attacking" you, merely your theory which is an idea, and not you personally nor your values or beliefs. If you're not willing to defend your theories, then maybe you shouldn't post them -- because that's what this place is for -- debate. If you put it up here someone's gonna pick it apart, because the lot of us can't even agree on things that are obviously true, let alone the myriad of things that are shadowed and obsured.

I'm sorry that your feelings were hurt or that you felt attacked, but maybe this isn't the place for you right now while you're emotionally so unstable. I'm very sorry about your mother, and I hope and wish for you only the best during your time of loss.

Thank you very much for this response.I agree that I may very well be challenged going on forums at this time,or doing many other things, due to my mental/emotional state. But I enjoy being at such places very much overall and need the escape/distraction--it's one of the few things getting me through.
I am happy to debate many things and find it stimulating usually--but as you pointed out--I am sensitive right now.I guess that even in general no matter when it is--I am less "willing" to "debate" a subjective FEELING or preference. Those things are personal and I don't know how anyone can...hmmm...let me see *thinking* ....Here's an example:I am a fan of Metallica overall, but did not enjoy St.Anger.But perhaps someone else did.Even if I exchanged ideas with that someone, and offered reasons why I did not enjoy it and listened to THEIR reasons why they DID--I am perfectly happy to do that....but not if someone's tone or attitude is suggesting that my preference is somehow faulty.I hope that makes sense.
I have no problems with anyone on these forums (even the so-called TROLLS) I just remember why I'm here and move along.
I reacted the way I did to what had been said about the whole spirituality issue because I see it and other things so often and wonder why some people have a problem with such things--like belief and preference/feelings.And was even willing to spend time in my response clarifying myself and acknowledging that the way I expressed myself or how I worded it was "wrong"--I am not arguing that point.I got prickly over my perception of how it was meant--and did not even use individual names, mainly because I wanted to address some things in GENERAL about certain trends/habits that occur, which I usually accept with no problem--but as you said--not today.
Look back over my posts and posting history--I am not that kind of person.And--just so as to not be a hypocrite--it also made me have to check myself because sometimes I might be inclined to do the same thing--and then I have to ask myself why I feel the need to....

Now--that having been said--when I first discovered Marble Hornets and the whole SM mythos--I was very intrigued and entertained just watching the entries. But I wanted to say that I would have missed out on a great deal had I not come to the forums/discussion boards. It added SOOOO many layers of intrigue and enjoyment to the experience!I have rarely laughed as much as I have on here and SA.I even get a kick out of how SA folks think we're all daft over here Laughing
And I wanna add that I waded through EVERY post of trailheads both here and at SA on a number of ARGS--including the monstrous EMH trailhead where the idea of staying on TOPIC was ludicrous, Laughing
I've definitely paid my dues and earned my wings and just want to enjoy the mythos and the folks around the world and usually just chuck the rest.
And to be even MORE on topic--whoever posted the thingy about Zodiac I wanna say that I thought of that icon too.I read that book back in the 70's/80's and it scared the Be-Jeebus outta me Shocked
When I first saw the Operator Symbol that's the first thing I thought of,LOL!!
It's too bad I never got a chance to introduce my mom to this mythos and the entries and such--I think she woulda loved it. *sigh*
But there's still DADDY!! I cannot WAIT to introduce HIM to all this--MUAH-HAHH-HAHHHHHHH!!I moved back to NC from CO 2 weeks ago and am now living in my parents home and am waiting a bit to expose my dad to the mythos and all you crazy peeps,LOL.It'll be a good distraction for him. Crying or Very sad
Sorry for this second wall of text--I am done for now.......Thanks again for your kind words. *hugs*

EDIT for spelling and to add this for the math peeps:"God does not play dice with the universe" ~Einstein
"Not only does God play dice with the universe--He sometimes throws them where they can't be seen" ~Hawking
"...and they're LOADED" ~Ford (quotes are approximate, too tired to look)

Hey amrith777,

I didn't mean to insult you, or attack your beliefs or anything... I just meant to make an offhanded comment about the fact that I deal with those constants frequently, so they have no special place in my heart. I didn't think you believed they were literally supernatural or anything... I just get frustrated when people get awestruck at the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, for example. To me, it's no more amazing than the fact that the area of a square is equal to the square of one of its sides.

Also, I'm kind of anti-Pi. I believe that Tau (2*Pi) should be the constant of choice... but that's a different argument entirely.

So... yeah... in short, sorry.

You should watch the movie Pi. I think your head would explode with anger.

I'm not a mathematician (next week i graduate as an engineer Very Happy ), but to me its arbitrary as to which to use. I personally like pi for tradition's sake. What are the pros of using tau vs pi other than implying a full circle over half-circle?

This guy explains it better than I could: Pi is Wrong

But I like this girl's videos better: Pi is (still) Wrong

I LOVE HER VIDEO! Makes me so happy.

Also, I just had a conversation about tau versus pi earlier this week with my boyfriend. I am convinced that tau IS better, and I don't even like (or can really do) math. But sensical things make sense. Smile

Well, I do math all the time being an engineering undergrad. These concepts are already drilled into me, so using pi is beyond natural. There is a point, that tau reduces the amount of computational time required to run calculations due to the omission a multiplication step (for functions requiring 2*pi, et cetera).

As for which is better numerically, it depends on the numerical method and the function(s) being evaluated. As for which is better conceptually, tau works better in basic levels of mathematics and geometry. It all depends, basically. No need to pick sides.

Edit--There's also the fact that tau is already in use for numerous other constants, and would confuse the piss out of practically everyone in the math world. When is tau tau or tau, 2*pi? For basic geometry and such, it could be inferred, but higher mathematics would make the usage confusing.
