Are the hyena's circling a near-dead Push?

Here is an article which, unfortunately, strikes a chord with me: http://www.teevee.org/archive/2002/10/07/index.html

While I have tried to get into the spirit of the show (beyond the desire to win money) it really hasn't been an easy thing to do. In many ways, like the article states, it seems like Push has been nothing more than an ego stroke for Ben Afleck, just a way for all of us to know how well rounded and packed full of obscure trivia he is. But a large pile of jumbled facts and figures does not riveting television make, as the ratings indicate.

And now, with Push's ratings evaporating faster than a snowball in Death Valley, it seems like the critics smell blood and are moving in for the kill. I almost get a sense that they can't wait to see the show fail, as if it is great to see someone previously successful, like Ben, taste the bitter fruit of failure. Of course, it is a brutal world in Hollywood and when one person is dragged back into the swirling morass of wannabe's, it provides an opening for another person to take their place. It's all about competition.

While I am not enjoying the shows demise because of a month+ worth of effort I have devoted to solving it's mystery, I also have to admit that I never really rose up to embrace this show as "must see TV". And my intuition is telling me, that I probably never will, since it may soon be gone.

Hope for the "game" even as the show dies...

Just found this article on NYPOST.COM:

Quote:
<snip>
Last summer Affleck told TV critics he already had an exit plan in mind if the show started getting creamed by the competition.

"If we get buried under an avalanche of 'CSI' and 'Will & Grace,' we will stuff a bunch of clues in the last episode. We have confidence we'll be able to maintain the integrity and secrecy of the puzzle," he said.
</snip>

Well woopty doo! If you hate it so much, why don't u just stop watching it and leave. I hate it when people just assume a show isn't worth watching just because they can't get into it (almost certainly because they don't understand it, which is probably their fault). You always ruin it for the people who do by causing shows to be cancelled. I have to say that Push, Nevada is the most unique, interesting, engaging and {2nd} best reality (if you can call it that) TV show...ever. It really is sad when a great show doesn't get very far because of little things like a poor advertising campain or people underestimating it.

I have to say that I fell asleep during episode 1, taped episode two and fell asleep watching that. There were three contributing factors though... extreme fatigue coupled with a nightcap, secure in the knowledge that I was taping it, and being Canadian I'm not allowed to play.

It took me a couple of episodes to "get into it", but that being said I have really enjoyed the show for the show as of late. I think the plot is intriguing and the writers have a good sense of humor. I loved it when Jim came into Sloman's and interupted Mary and "customer". "Customer says that he doesn't want any trouble to which Jim replies "Well then you're with the wrong lady." Classic...lol. And the choice of tattoo was amusing as well.

It also has the ability to surprise. I never would have guessed that Sloman would have been that nasty or would have said the things he did to Jim....kind of shocked me.

The drama mystery itself (and believe me as a Cdn I'm watching for mostly pleasure) should have been able to stand on its own even with a cult following. But like the stock market, as soon as it started slipping...people bailed. If my early experience with PUSH was anything to go by everyone should have given it a bit more time. I was a devoted CSI viewer, but I must say I've been awatchin' PUSH 4 PLEASURE!!

At least we'll get one more ep.

From Knight Ridder,

"Look for ABC to pull "Push, Nevada," its new mystery series/contest coproduced by Ben Affleck. "Push" had only 4.3 million viewers Thursday. It will air at least one more episode so viewers can get a final clue for the $1 million prize."
