Which reminds me. Someone has to have some cajones gigantes to pull something like this against Microsoft.
It happens everyday with every piece of software out there (accept MMORPG's like EQ or DAoC) - they do it because it's nigh impossible to get caught. Go check out theisonews sometime to get a full scope of the situation.

Why? Why would you come to this forum-where people are telling others not to post pirated pics-and do it anyway? It doesn't make sense to me either.

[quote="ElViento"]I read on Slashdot and The Register that it's just the Single Player part of the game that's been leaked, none of the Xbox Live multiplayer. How it's possible to strip that out of a prepackaged DVD is beyond me, but it kinda screams "Review Copy" to me. I'd say some French reviewer (it's a french localised copy floating about if reports are true) put it out there.

It's highly unlikely that it would be possible to strip half the game out of a DVD build, unless it used separate executables for the single- and multi-player versions of the game. I think what is being referred to is the fact that you will be unable to USE the multi-player part of the game on XBox Live, because XBox Live will detect if you are using a modchip, which is in turn needed to run the illegally downloaded game.
The difference in size on disk (3gig as opposed to a potential 7gig) is probably due to compression; you can't really compress that much onto an XBox DVD, as you don't want to be decompressing it at runtime.
It's also unlikely it was a leaked press copy; the press are very reliable, and would be sitting ducks for Microsoft's legal department. The game has just gone out for duplication (5 days ago, IIRC), so that is without a doubt the source of the leak.

You're F%$%#@ Kidding me! This pisses me off to no end.
Will someone please ban that peice of $#!+ posting links to game content.
I don't think this will hurt the game (ILB or H2) as long as we keep our blinders on...but get that scum out of my sight.

hmm Do you think it would be totally unnacceptably immoral to d/l it if you already have a copy preordered? lol I mean. I already paid for it. . .
I doubt i'll be able to find it by the time i get off of work tonight anyway. but i get paid to help save lives(works at american red cross) so thats better than playing halo 2...
did i just say that?

So, attempting to play an illegal copy of Halo 2 on XBox Live would,
1: Get your box banned from Live and
2: most likely result in some government agency knocking on your door.

in my defense, the release FROM MICROSOFT said nothing about posting pics.
microsoft wrote:
Microsoft has launched an investigation into the leak of a version of Bungie's forthcoming Xbox title Halo 2, which has made its way onto Internet piracy sites and newsgroups almost a month before the title is due to launch. (November 9-11) The pirate copy of the game, which is thought to have begun circulating last night, claims to be a PAL version.
"Microsoft has learned that a version of Halo 2 has been posted to various newsgroups and web sites," the company said in a statement this morning. "We consider downloading this code or making it available for others to download as theft." "We are currently investigating the source of this leak with the appropriate authorities," the statement continued. "Microsoft takes the integrity of its intellectual property extremely seriously, and we are aggressively pursuing the source of this illegal act." The launch of Halo 2 worldwide remains unaffected.
nothing in there about posting screen shots of halo 2. halo 2 pics have been up on the internet for months....
f*** you guys for jumping down my throat. i was trying to add something relevant to the topic, i.e. pics of the new game.....
f*** this board, and the assholes who live on here.

I understand XGameFusion's frustration here, but he doesn't seem to understand ours... Even if it's not illegal, we really don't want anything that's not put out by a VALID, VERIFIED source, like xbox.com or halo2.com or whatever. Hey, I even check out gamestop.com once in a while for my halo 2 pics. But unless you can prove that it comes from one of those types of sources, we don't want it. Period.
