 		Yeah I don't think it's a predictable pattern either. Figuring out the symbols for unknown letters was a tongue in cheek suggestion.

 		Anyone working on the snow?
Looking at those three squares of snow made me think of the labels on packages from (UPS? FEDEX? USPS?) that are a square with a seemingly random bunch of black squares on them.

I have no idea how to decipher them though.

perhaps like standard bar code?

There are several forms of bar code, and those are definitely one form. However, those are straight black and white, or binary. This has many shades of gray and so would be a lot more difficult to decode.
