Just posted this in the other wallpaper thread, but here it is again...
here's a visual decryption key by symbol rather than alphabet that I just put together...

Well the other thread is more generally about the halo2 site, so it really doesn't belong over here and it extra really shouldn't be merged with this htread. So go over and exercise some discipline and send the puzzlers over here! OK, I'll go say it too.

I dont know if htis is known but if you invert the colors on the wallpaper, you can see what looks like a warthog in the bottom left hand corner.

The bottom black background isnt really black.

Note from creator of the new Halo2.com Hey guys, Just a note to say good job, but we (my company AKQA) didn't want to make it this easy to break. It is an easy code but the web masters at xbox were the ones that came up with the cliche All your Base and I love bees text as the teaser. It really bugs us that they made it so easy. Yes you would have cracked it tomorrow when the new site goes live. But we were hoping to give more of a challenge. But let me give you a tease of my own to give you some hope. "You will soon have alot of fun translating....mucho code tomorrow" I believe the site goes live around 11am PST.
Cheers guys

I wish I knew. 1 of 2 things.
1. They made it way to easy by using the most cliche takeover phrase ever and throwing in an I love bees didnt help either.
2. Somebody from their web team told one of his friends.. etc etc.
I dont know which is correct but it still is lame that it was so easy.

Well, if that was real and not someone playing games, I'm impressed that they actually came here.
If you're still reading this, donvitoviti, may I express my disappointment that you seem to have arbitrarily assigned the symbols to the letters? It would have been so much cooler if there had been a phonetic relationship -- for example, if all the vowels had lacked any large triangle (complete OR with the cutout) base, or if, say, all the dentals had the same base.
I recognize that you probably didn't have a whole lot of time to work on it, but still...

I understand Phaedra. It came down to time. We had to make the code in 1 day so it could be used throughout the site. That gave us enough time to create the characters that were inspired by Bungie... and nothing more. Believe me when I say we are lucky we got to even do that.

I thought it was nice.
Sometimes, if you want to get a lot of new people all fired up and ready to go and excited about playing a game, you make the first step easy and fun.
Then...once they're thoroughly sucked in...BLAM comes the hard stuff

PS. These Characters were already created for possible use by Bungie, but never assigned to anything specific when we got them. It was fun using for a real purpose

Yes that was our goal.. but we didnt want it being cracked till tomorrow is our point. So you could see the site and crack it at the same time.

<sigh> I guess I'll have to let you off the hook, then. If I may ask and you may answer without giving away anything classified, what are the characters supposed to be? Covenant block print?
And in case you ever have to create a language again (I'm sure you do that all the time, right? ), if you check out Tolkien's tengwar, they provide a better example than any real language (created languages have that luxury) of a script which indicates the relationships of the letters to one another and to how the sound is produced.
