I got my badge a few days ago, Alpha (dot-dash), and tonight showed it to a few of my friends. One of my friends vehemently insisted that it was highly-stylized Japanese.

Anyone here read Japanese and think they can test this theory?

Just asking but is your friend really into anime =P There's no way it's Japanese since we already figured out how to put them together.

Yes, he is, lol. I know it was already figured out and I told him that, but he still insisted it was Japanese.

Yeah. So far treating them as symbols denoting a column is working, since in doing so the so far incomplete QR code is keeping with the specifications for a valid code.

Agreed, so long as the "symbols" (morse letters) are already in correct sequence, whats the difference?

Well, the letters are not A B C D E F G

The symbols represent numbers.

.=1
..=2
...=3
....=4
-=5
.-=6
.-.=7

The end.

Can someone explain where the idea that these are numbers comes from? I think this is being assembled out of order. They are not numbers in any system that I am aware of, however they ARE letters in morse code...

Im just stating that to me, it appears there is more to this puzzle than what it seemed at first.

Stating "The End" Is hardly conclusive evidence lol.

Pretty conclusive if you ask me. All the pieces line up with the QR Code alignment points and formatting information for a standard QR code that size. Now what the QR code will actually give you once it's complete is another question.

I realize that they can also be letters in morse code, but even that isn't completely true. In morse code the 3 dots wouldn't form a triangle, dot slash dot wouldn't look like a division symbol. So we'd already be reaching a little with that theory. Granted, you'd have to stack your dots and dashes to fit in the circle.

The symbols before the last circle are letters as we know. ALPHA, BRAVO....GOLF. They are already displaying letters in a somewhat hidden form, why switch to a smooshed and stacked version of morse for the last circle?

The "morse" would be in a jumbled order that makes no sense. The numbering systems currently in use is lining up alignment squares properly with the 1 dot, 4 dot and dot slash dot as 1, 4 and 7.
More importantly the number system in use just smacks of common sense, using a tally mark to denote "5" and single dots as single numbers.

It's already a chore to assemble the 42 pieces we need, 49 for 100%, there is no need to make the alignment process more convoluted.

The End? Very Happy

I do like how you look into every possibility though! We need more of that around here.

The system is similar to Mayan glyphs for numbers. http://2012rising.com/images/106.gif

one, two, three, four, [new symbol for five]
five+one, five+two, five+three, ...

Conceptually, it works like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chisanbop
or D'ni http://myst5.com/dninumbers.html

Ok lol much better! I understand now. Im still learning about qr codes, so Ill go along with you on this. The morse code is just vertical instead of horizontal when it fits in the circle nicer.

Ok, Ill be checking my mail shortly (again) to see if mine has shown up, if its anything new, Ill show it off here.

Thanks again.

The (other) End lol

Damn those Maya! I thought they were hexidecimal, thank you for that link. Itll be useful for me.

Well I'll just add - the last circle is not morse code for numbers, as has been mentioned above. 5 is not a dash, nor does morse code stack dots/dashes. It's just a series of symbols to intuitively represent numbers 1 through 7, that's all Smile
