I had been reading about Slenderman back in Feburary to make a World of Darkness campaign using him as a villain. Forgot about the whole thing until one day I was like "Oh yeah, I was going to make a Slenderman project!" That quickly got me to Alternate-Reality Gaming (something else I wanted to make) and then Marble Hornets.

Protip: 3am, lights out, no one home, restless cats, tall white/black shit out of the corner of your eye are all TERRIBLE things to have occurring while watching MarbleHornets.

I stopped when my laptop randomly overheated and died...I thought it might have been Slenderman until I remember that that happens all the time.

...then I realized the tall white shit out of the corner of my eye was Slenderman. I slept well that night.

We all get that urge to get scared to death from time to time, right? Well quite frankly, no piece of footage had scared me for, well, since I was a child. I'm eighteen now.

Sometimes I've thought that maybe my hopes are too high and I'm expecting too much, but I don't know if I could be blamed for that. I wanted something that would give me nightmares.

In hopes of achieving this, on another forum that I moderate at, I created a topic asking the members if they had any suggestions for a horror movie that I could check out that night.

I got tons of suggestions. Movies I've watched before and movies I hadn't even heard about. Then there was another member who suggested something that wasn't even a movie, but something that would get me, nonetheless.

He suggested Marble Hornets.

I went straight to YouTube and checked it out. Entry after entry, my interest just grew stronger and stronger. I watched every episode that was uploaded that night, then proceeded to read into more Slenderman stuff online.

The next couple days, there I was, checking out EverymanHYBRID and TribeTwelve. I was fascinated!

And if anyone cares to know—that first night I watched MH, I did get a bit frightened. Not necessarily while I was watching it, but once I turned off the computer and got ready for bed. Leaving my room—with all the lights in the house off, nobody else around, complete silence, dark windows I couldn't see past, and a long hallway... It was eerie. And at that moment, I was scared.

And while that initial fear is pretty much gone (though the entries can make me jump from time to time!) my interest is still as strong as ever. The way these series works your mind is so captivating to me, and I'll continue to watch them until their story is over. Wink

about three of my friends showed Marble Hornets to me in my kitchen, and at one point when Slender Man appeared I screamed and smacked a glass across the room by accident. from that point on I laughed, until stuff got real again. which was about thirty seconds later.

My best friend's older brother told us about it, saying: "These guys have been followed by this tall guy wearing a black suit with no face. They call him... the Slenderman."

We started at the beginning, but a few entries in, when my friend and I were getting pretty twitchy from all the creepiness on screen, he finally caved and admitted that it wasn't real, and that the creators were just bored.

...but from that point on, we were hooked.

I'm more into it than my friend is, having checked out the forums and the other Slenderman related media (Just Another Fool, TribeTwelve, EverymanHYBRID, etc.) and lurking all over the internet, racking up samples of the wide spectrum of theories behind Marble Hornets - which is easily my favorite.

Still, whenever a new entry or totheark response gets posted, one of us tells the other, and we start the theory/lurking cycle again.

I'm fairly new to all these Slender Man gubbins, not really having much experience with it beyond Marble Hornets. I came across a picture of the Slender Man while looking for pictures I could use as the green screened backgrounds to my to-camera videos on my youtube channel. After finding said picture I went on to look up the Slender Man, which eventually led me to marble hornets. Once there I found myself watching what I consider to be the scariest thing I've watched (not played however, there are video games much scarier to me).

As a side note, still bloody impressed with what the Marble Hornets guys have pulled off, managing to make somthing that scary on what I presume to be a very limited or non-existant budget.

From what they said after Season One, it sounds like they've done this on a zero budget. Now that I think about it, though, they must have had to pay for some things, like gas money, hotel fees, cameras and equipment...

Still, as far as actual filming goes, you're right, being able to do something like this isn't something that is easily accomplished.

I've known about the whole "Slenderman's at the door and he wants..." stuff for a while thanks to constant Facepunch and 4chan conversations, but never really knew there was a whole mythos behind it until I sat down with my girlfriend and a close friend of mine and brought it up.

My friend, being a big paranormal nerd and frequenter of SA began to tell me this whole mythos behind it and how there were tons of YouTube channels and videos dedicated to "the origins" and "expansion" of the Slenderman universe.

About a week later, I glanced over my girlfriend's shoulder while she was watching Entry #46 about the time that Jay took the flashlight from Alex and shone it on Slenderman down the hallway. At that point I was like, "OMGWTF Y U NO TELL ME SLENDERMAN?!"

And last night I started MH, finished it this morning, found this forum, and have been reading threads for HOURS trying to see what other people have been speculating about the series. I'm impressed.

This is going to sound made up, like I'm making a stupid joke, but I'm being completely serious.

I don't remember.

I used to be a big /x/phile on 4chan. Of course there used to be a bunch of Slenderman stuff there and they were my favorite threads. Someone posted the MH link and i watched it until current, which was entry 27 at the time. I didn't watch it again until a month or two ago and am now spending my nights in fear of The Operator instead of sleeping soundly.

Den of Geek had an article on The 10 best found footage movies ever made the and one of the users talked about the series. Watched it nearly all in one go, absoustetly brilliant - and now it's going to go on hitaus again Smile.

Hmm, have you started filming yourself yet, mate? Laughing Sounds like you might be taking it just a tad bit too serious, though....it's all just spooky fun, mate. Or your just messing with us Smile

No, I just tend to forget relatively unimportant things due to my somewhat hectic work schedule--not to dismiss my appreciation for the series, but things like insurance payments take priority over MH. There are a lot of random things I've subscribed to on YouTube or have in my Bookmarks menu, and I'm constantly going, "Where did that come from?" But then I'm usually pleasantly (re)surprised.

Got here from reddit, r/nosleep. Checking out F7U12, then got linked to nosleep. I'm a gimp who uses horror for the adrenaline rush--it's a natural pain reliever/distractor for me. As a result, I've gotten pretty into the psychology and physical effects of terror and horror. On nosleep I saw many references to Slender Man, and frankly, couldn't imagine how a monster with such a dumb name scared so many people. So I started investigating and found MH, then the wiki while looking for screenshots. Got hooked on the puzzle aspects; I'd never heard of ARGs before. I never thought MH was real, probably because nosleep has an "it's always real, even if it's not" philosophy, so posting there sorta requires you to act in-character. From the wiki I found uf, EMH etc.

I watch this stuff on my phone, in bed late at night, while the hubs is sleeping and the lights are off. I was delightfully scared by the videos because the suspense is well-done, but didn't find the monster particularly scary... until I'd put the phone down. Now when I'm reading horror novels late at night on my back deck and hear a suspicious noise, the only thing I picture is Slender Man. I'm not afraid of him per se, but when I'm afraid, he pops up in my head. It's weird how he creeps into your psyche like that.
