i think the value's might have something to do with the letter that you pic from, but some don't work
ie: philo t farnsworth = only 18 chars WITH spaces

I like this idea. Try the sums of the digits in the stamp value, either once or until reduced to a single digit)?

The hitch in all of this is what about middle initials? Is it Philo T. Farnsworth or Philo Farnsworth? (Robert E. Lee is almost always used with the middle initial).

I saw a mention of Quinine.... that's an anti-malaria drug. It's also extremely bitter, according to a friend of mine who had to go on a regimen when he visited Korea.

-- Steve's not so good with puzzles, but hopes this will be some help.

Good job on Irving and London.

That gives us:
Philo Farnsworth
Uncle Sam
Carl Sandburg
Washington Irving
Annie Oakley
Bronco Nagurski
Nicholas Copernicus
Albert Einstein
Robert E. Lee
Jack London

What if we put the names in order of stamp value? Are there any with the same value?

Also eyebright is listed as a treatment for Hay Fever, as well as eye disorders.

Just throwing it out there.

the fourth plant in beewithh looks like some kind of reed to me.. which would fit with it being used for papyrus, ie 'written on in' egypt.

I can't think of any other feasible answer to the phrase "<plant> is/was written on in <answer>", anyway.
