I was catching up on previous clues I might have missed while lurking this one, and I remembered the thing about "little Syria". Someone already posted the link to the article in Wikipedia, so I'll just quote what I thought was more interesting:

Also, welcome epi_x, it will be nice to have a go between in case any clues are given to the Japanese players that we can't understand.

The video is interesting but I again think it's just buildup and setting the scene. It shows acts of terror and the results of those acts in the emotions of people. I think this game may heavily deal with those emotions as, if anyone has read the article posted above, they will remember many cloudmakers being upset with others for their insensitivity and detachment from the emotional reality. This is a sensitive subject for many and I feel this game may deal with that aspect.

The new site, www.darkcloud.org is extremely interesting if it is in fact related. Shot off an email to the registrant to confirm if it's part of the game or not and for further details.

Also, how did we find this flickr account? I assume it is the account of a) a PM or someone related to creating the game or b) it is IG and is from a character in the game but I'm not sure how we found it so can't comment further. Have the game materials been released then? I wonder if anyone has received that invitation to play the game directly then?

Also, is it just me or is the countdown clock always changing slightly? I'm sure it was set to end at 10:30am (for me in the UK at least) and now it's at 10:33am. I know people mentioned it changed slightly before so how often is it switching and by how much?

I live in the US, central time zone and it will end aug 21st at 10:35 am. it's obviously atuned to your computer's clock. to test this I changed the time on my computer and refreshed the page and the time changed.
edit: looking at the source code, it's *supposed* to count down to 10:43:00, it's just very strange they would set it to local time, since 10:43 would happen (theoretically) 24 times (yes i know there are some smaller time zones that are, for example, GMT +9:30)

I don't think any significant clues have been left yet, i think the QR code and the airplane/jigsaw puzzle were just rabitholes. I'm also thinking the pictures from that flickr are from the pm who just took pictures of these rabit holes she left around, since she took them down soon after being posted on this forum.
edit: upon review, the clues basically point to a setting for the story. this is probably obvious, but just to sum up what we know so far: Little Syria, 2001. relating to the 9/11 attacks, and perhaps other terrorist activites. the goal is to investigate the disappearence of this 'black cloud' organization. This has been in the works for a very long time, with a youtube channel almost 9 months old, and websites around 10 years old, however the trailhead came about very recently, with 'laurens' flickr created this month, and the main website only recently created as well.

I'm somewhat concerned by the amount of japanese websites that have been linked, I wonder if the puppet master isn't japanese and if there would be some sort of language barrier, even with epi_x here to help. QR codes have been common in japan for years now, to the point that pretty much any cell phone you buy in japan will have built-in qr reader. they've only recently become popular in the west thanks to android.

I just received a mail in the post about this. Includes the floppy disk from the previous Japanese news post, a business card showing the previous airplane/puzzle piece and the QR code/words, and a (new) PostIt note with a Hotmail email address and password. Unfortunately, I'm swamped at work so won't be able to post pictures of everything for a few hours.

Alright, got pulled into a conference call. Got lucky.

EDIT: Note that I'm obscured my local address and the password for the Hotmail account (which did work). When I logged in, the account name had been set to "player of the game", which makes me think that people who received this package might receive their own unique email. (If that doesn't become the case, I'll share the password). There were no emails waiting for me, nor anyone in the address book. The 3 default Hotmail messages were in the "Deleted" folder, and the earliest date was 2011-08-02, which is likely when then account was created.

Now to pull out one of my old machines with a floppy disk.

EDIT 2: Hah! I don't have any working machines that can read a floppy disk. Lovely. EDIT 3: And a local shop wants to charge me $60 for the privilege. RiIIIghttt.
