Is he looking for Jack? Is that why he's asking for pictures of trees? Maybe he's hoping to see Jack in one of them. Someone send in a picture of Aokigihara.

Mabye we should tell Jack what we know about Slendy, the more he knows, the less likely he would be likely to run in with him. Starting off with -STAY AWAY FROM THE FUCKIN' FORESTS!

I'd be willing to do it if you're serious, but I'd like to hear a few others agree that I should first. Seems risky at the moment.

On another note, maybe I'm being dense here but where did the idea of Jack's sister come from?

That was me misreading the newspaper article while multitasking. I thought Amy and Jacks mother were two different people and somehow created a sister out of nowhere.

I seem to think that doing that would draw Slendy's attention to the place Jack is hiding out (if I'm reading this story correctly).

I thought it'd be risky not because of what's in the picture, but because it's a picture at all, and Jack said not to send them. I thought Slendy was the one who took Jack to Aokigahara in the first place, and that Jack has since left the forest to travel back home.

Maybe The Suicides of Aokigahara fuel slenderman somehow, so he drops them off to let them die on their own.

My guess is that Jack and the others are still in Japan, but have left Aokigahara forest. They are however probably still relatively close--presumably they awoke (or came out of trance?) there with little more than the clothes on their back, so their resources are probably very little. Without money they won't be able to get off of Japan. Also, we don't know where these kids are all from: Are they all from the area where Jack lives, or have they been abducted from all around the world?

We know where Jack is from (Alabama) and we know that Aokigahara is a place of importance for the (this?) Slender Man. We don't know where anyone else is from, though.

As for "where they are now": They're in Japan, near Aokigahara, and in an area with cell reception. They were until very recently (at least until a couple of days ago) all holed up together. They are now split into roughly five groups of two, and Jack, real age unknown, is paired up with Serah, age 17, home unknown.

I'm not really going anywhere with this, just sort of recapping.

TIMELINE:

Sometime Before June 18th, 2011:
*Jack's neighbor comes home from Japan, where he photographed Aokigahara.
*Jack begins sighting the Slender Man.
*Slendy appears at Jack's house. This goes on for an unknown, but presumably relatively short, amount of time.

June 18th, 2011:
*Under the control of the Slender Man, Jack sets fire to his house, killing his parents.
*In the confusion, Jack disappears.

Sometime Between June 18th and August 7th, 2011:
*Jack comes out of Slendy's control, somehow having come to Aokigahara.
*It's possible that this is when Jack meets other "survivors"--all aged roughly 17-18 and under, and presumably is under suggestion from Slendy.

August 7th, 2011:
*Under 'fervent' urging from the Slender Man, Jack creates the blog, assuming a 12-year-old version of himself (which may or may not be his true age) and asking for pictures of trees. Jack, apparently in control of himself at least some of the time, hides messages in the blog and in e-mails with interested--and then concerned--outside parties.

Sometime between August 7th and August 15th, 2011:
*Jack escapes Slendy's grasp.
*Jack definitely is with other survivors: whether they escaped at the same time as he did or whether he met them afterward is unclear.
*He is still being stalked by Slendy.

August 17th, 2011:
*Sometime between the 15th and 17th, the group of survivors splits off into pairs: Roughly ten people total aged 17ish and under. Jack is paired with Serah.

It occurs to me that I have posted bits and pieces of my correspondence with Jack, but not the whole thing. In the interest of full disclosure, and to make sure I didn't miss anything, here's the whole transcript:

These all occurred on August 15th. Except for the my first messages, all of my messages and Jack's were sent in base64. The translations will appear below the base64 block.

Hi Jack, I think maybe you should change your password on your blog and maybe even your email, it looks like someone else might be using them to post and send messages. There's another post on your blog from earlier today, isn't that weird?

Anyway maybe I can take some pictures of the trees around here to send to you later, or when I go camping tomorrow. What do you think?

Have fun & BE SAFE.

-"Kender"

An interesting note here is that I actually did go camping, but with the way things unfolded, I didn't take pictures for Jack.

How do we fight it?
What is Jack?

It's worth noting that at this point, I still beleived in the existence of a "Jill" character, or "alter-Jack" type entity.

Thanks for that. Can we get dates for the correspondence? I'm wondering specifically about the "its back" message. That sounds to me like maybe Jack was still in Aokigahara when he wrote it. (Another possibility crossed my mind, but it's out there and quite premature.) Dates might help with the tentative timeline.

I'm willing to buy that Jack is the age he claims to be, since the newspaper article said he's young. Even if he's not exactly 13, "young" is close enough for me for now. I've known some pretty bright kids who could write extremely well, even without being half-possessed by a paranormal entity of indeterminate age and education. Smile I'll take him at his word on the age range of the rest of the Aokigahara group too, until I have (further) reason to question that.

I also wondered about where "home" is for Sarah & co., and how they intend to get there from Japan without any resources. Do they really intend to essentially hitchhike their way back to their respective homes? I feel like we're missing some info there.

They may not have much of a choice. In Jack's case, it's been two months now--more than enough time, I suspect, for his local fire department to deduce that it was he who set the blaze. Jack may be a wanted man (er, kid). He would have to keep a low profile.

Assuming that our tall friend made all of the kids do stuff at one point or another, and all of the stuff they did was roughly as bad as what el Hombre Alto made Jack do, they could all be wanted by the law in their respective homes. Who knows?

As for the correspondence, it all happened on August 15th. I've sent him one message since then, but I haven't heard back at all. My first message to Jack that day was at 7:51 PM, Pacific Standard Time. The "it's been about two hours" message was at 10:35; "it's back" came at 11:20.

Hope that helps.

"Do You Like Trees" Wiki

I created a blank Wikia page I Like Trees.

I'll add in some information later, but if you'd like to contribute, feel free.

It seems a little early in this blog's life to devote a wiki to it, but there's enough information, correspondence and timeline stuff going on that I think we'd benefit (and certainly any newcomers would).

http://iliketrees.wikidot.com/

The wikia address I posted previously is not correct; please use the wikidot site.

New post.

A door, eh? Interesting. I suppose it's entirely possible that's how Slendy teleports (at least over long distances). I'm a little worried though about Jack and Serah trying to use it. Of course, they'd have to figure out how to unlock it first.

Maybe if they say "tomodachi" to the door.

(Hey, it worked for the elves...)

GAAAH! >.< I read just the first paragraph or so and I'm kicking myself in the ass! Remember that premature thought that crossed my mind? This is what I wrote in my Notes app last night-- I cut it when I c/ped my reply this morning because I don't even know why:

"Then my mind wandered into how they physically traveled there in the first place, and if teleportation or dimensional shenanigans were involved. Totally premature and wild-going-on-feral spec: Perhaps they realized the problems posed by essentially hitchhiking to their respective homes, and they're actually traveling within the forest looking for the back door to Alabama, so to speak. Very unlikely but my mind is trolling me, so y'know. Point and laugh."

Ok, gonna collect myself and go finish reading the post now. Very Happy

Hey, wild speculation is welcome, far as I'm concerned.

(I mean, come on, have you SEEN the Marble Hornets board..?)
