Ha! Yes, yes I have. I've only been involved in ARGs long enough to barely start testing my spec, so I'm getting the hang of it now. Mostly I didn't want to start expanding on elements like teleportation before we got a better picture of how they work in this ARG. Didn't wanna be all "lol Serah's da totheark, gaiz!??!"

Back on-topic, I can't help with the Japanese stuff. If it hasn't been figured out by then, I'll try to look into possibilities for the triangles thing tomorrow. I'm too brain-fried tonight.

Honestly, I haven't been either: this is actually my first ARG. I don't count Marble Hornets because it isn't technically an ARG, if I understand it right: we watch MH, and we may have minor interaction with Jay/totheark, but what we say, do, solve, and speculate does not affect the storyline. Here, however, we do have an effect as players. For instance: what would have happened if we didn't stop sending SlenderJack pictures? Things could be very different.

As for the Japanese, I won't be able to pull a definition out of my head, but I did study Japanese for a few years, so I have a kanji dictionary somewhere and I do know how to use it. We'll have to see how that pans out.

For now, back to working on the wiki.

Well, ages ago when it was first posted someone on here said part of it read "Black 13" I told him that I didn't think anyone had it fully translated but someone had suggested that was a partial translation. I also suggested he draw that arrangement of triangles for us and suggested they might be a puzzle lock if they can be moved or pressed.

I just posted an e-mail to Jack now, telling him and Serah a little bit about the 'thing' that is hunting them. I also told them to try and get a drawing of the door, because a friend of mine is excellent with Kanji.

EDIT: I got the full translation,it says "Black 13-Stalking the sea"

So,something is stalking the sea,and theres 13 of them,black.

Aokigahara is also known in Japan as the "Sea of Trees," so that could be the "sea" that this refers to, and I think at this point it's pretty clear who's stalking it.

As far as Black 13 goes, maybe there are 13 of the survivors, including Jack and Serah? Jack has so far said that there were "about ten"--13's pretty close, and maybe there are some that they haven't met yet?

That seems unlikely though, because why would that be on the door..?

I don't think it's referring to 13 Slender Men, that would just be overkill it seems... Though I haven't ruled it out quite yet.

EDIT: I did a little research with the kanji on Google. The "Jyu-San" ("13") could also be pronounced "Juzou" which means a statue. I don't think it's the right kanji for statue, but it kind-of fits considering that most of the time, Slendy doesn't move much.

That would bring my guess-translation to something like "Black Statue Stalks the Sea," where "Sea" is short for "Sea of Trees", which is a nickname of Aokigahra.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm not really satisfied with Juzou yet though. The translation seems to fit, and Kanji can be difficult especially if (our puppetmaster) doesn't actually KNOW the language.

Just throwing it out there.

DOUBLE EDIT:

The girlfriend saw my post after I made it and pointed out that "Black 13," like TS Eliot's poem "The Waste Land," could be a reference to Stephen King's the Dark Tower books.

According to the Dark Tower wiki;

Dark Tower Wiki wrote:
The Black Bend (Black Thirteen)

We first see the sphere in The Gunslinger Born as Marten Broadcloak uses it to contact the Crimson King in Le Casse Roi Russe.

"Black Thirteen" was given to Father Callahan by the man in black while Roland was chasing him. Callahan was transported to Calla Bryn Sturgis by it, and subsequently hid it away after settling down in the Calla. When Roland's ka-tet arrived in Wolves of the Calla, he offers it to Roland as incentive for their aid.

Mia steals it after the showdown with the Wolves and uses it to escape to the New York City of 1999, where she planned to give birth to Mordred Deschain. Jake Chambers and Father Callahan follow and retrieve Black Thirteen, then store it in a locker beneath the World Trade Center. It is not known precisely what happened to it afterwards, though the implication is that on September 11, 2001, the building it was stored in fell on top of it and destroyed it or that the tons of rubble and subsequent new building would have buried Black 13 underground, leaving it inaccessible forever.

You can read the rest about the Bends here http://darktower.wikia.com/wiki/Black_Thirteen#The_Black_Bend_.28Black_Thirteen.29

I'm not convinced this is actually relevant (is Slendy supposed to be the black Bend? Seeking it?) but it does mark the second time that an element from the Dark Tower series has been used.

EDIT, PART 3: THE EDITENNING:

Girlfriend also points out that the disembodied door is an element from the series, although in the series there are three, and on a beach (could be another "sea" reference). She says that the series has a lot of doors that transport you over long distances. She's trying to find reference to the triangles now.

I figure this ARG has been planned, and I would say our PM has at least studied some Kanji anyways,my friend who translated the writing for me said its definitely Kanji-stylized aswell as the fact I just showed him the writing and he translated the full thing in half a second.

Yeah, now I'm starting to think more and more that "black 13" is a Dark Tower reference. Read my edits on my above post.

The Dark Tower book series by Stephen King or something completely different? Why? Wat has Black 13 gotta do to refer it with?

EDIT: Ahh,I see your link now! Good job to your Gf for finding that!

Yep. So far that makes at least three uncanny references to the series:

* TS Eliot's poem "The Waste Land" appears at the beginning of the Dark Tower series novel of the same name.
* "Black 13" could refer to the Black Thirteen from the novels.
* Disembodied doors appear in the series at least once.

Lookie what I found,a brief description of the poem.
Quote:
Despite the poem's obscurity —its shifts between satire and prophecy, its abrupt and unannounced changes of speaker, location and time.

Slendyverse is known to have different speakers, A.K.A Protagonists

Slendy is also capable of teleporting to different locations and is capable of also manipulating time.

In alot of cases,I just realised the Poem reminded me of the Slendyverse, with that breif description of it's nature.

I am also now being told that Gilead (as in balm of Gilead) is where the Gunslinger from the Dark Tower series is from.

I am the girlfriend in question Wink I recognized the Eliot poem (he's my favorite poet) and after someone mentioned the Dark Tower tie-in I spotted the other (albeit tentative) links. I haven't had a chance to go through the blog yet but if I see anything else I'll mention it. I'm also happy to answer questions about the series if somebody thinks they have a theory or something.

If we want to really start grasping at straws looking for comparisons between this ARG and the Dark Tower series, one of the important characters is around eleven years old--not too far off from our main character. I've only read the first three or so books of the series, though, so I'm not sure what sorts of corollaries (if any) we could make between our protagonist and that character other than their similar age and that they get more or less teleported somewhere.

In other news, I probably shouldn't have read all the way to the end of that page and spoilered the rest of the books for myself. Oops. :/

Nor, for that matter, is his name that far off.

That's true, actually, about the ages. Good point. And the guy behind Jake's door? If we want to go really out there, his name was JACK Mort.

Edit: Was just reading through the blog. SARAH from CALIFORNIA sent the pictures of the redwoods. Interesting.
