I feel the direction this is heading, is one which involves a US government conspiracy, that some outside the US believe to be true. My daughter and SIL have been subjected to this theory while living in several different European countries. They've talked to many Europeans that are adamant the attack of 911, was planned and carried out by then President, G. W. Bush. Although, I don't believe for a second that our government, had anything to do with the attack on the WTC and Pentagon, I guess it makes for a good ARG story. It'll be interesting to see where this leads.

I agree that is where this seems to be heading (so far at least). I'm still fairly uncomfortable, though, with turning these conspiracy theories into a game. To me, it seems to trivialize some fairly traumatic events and capitalize upon the upcoming anniversary. I remember thinking at the time that it was ridiculous that Cloudmakers wanted to try to "solve" the 9/11 attacks and I still think that it seems inappropriate.

(plus, those blogposts contained some anachronistic information. The A.I. game didn't become known as The Beast until later and the term Alternate Reality Game didn't catch on until after Lockjaw.).

Just to put it out there, if anyone needs anything reliably translated, I read/write both Arabic and French.

I really don't think this game is all that bad, or inappropriate. I never understood the concept of trivialization. I mean, yeah, making a cartoon about a tragedy is ridiculous, but I think a game like this is a great way to remember what happened on that day. I see this everywhere. We remember 9/11 on the anniversery, then push it out of our minds for another whole year. Even on the Facebook page of this game, the creators asked the players if this game is going a step too far. I don't think it is. I think this game is a great way to honor those affected. They're not making fun, they're not demeaning the event. It's just a fictional take on real life. It just saddens me to see people try and forget. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

darkestpuzzle.blogspot.com

Looking at some the links in the comments of the darkstpuzzle.blogspot.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A google search of the ptcruiserclub.org link in the comments brings up these sites:

http://www.andrewgough.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3569&start=275
http://forum.davidicke.com/archive/index.php/t-140901.html
http://geofftop.com/DISCUSSION.php?ID=40

Each reference the report of Flight 93 landing. Time-lines of this seem to suggest there was a second plane.

www.asile.org seems dead, but the below link appears to be cloned content:

Not only are they insinuating that there is a second plane but some of the research goes so far as to say NO ONE was on the planes except the hijackers...

Letterman Interview

In the Letterman interview, when he is interviewing Dan Rather, Dan mentions a sleeper cell celebrating on a roof. Heres the transcript:

LETTERMAN: Are they celebrating, 'thank God'

RATHER: Oh absolutely, they're celebrating, there's one report, this has not been confirmed, but there are several reliable
reports there was a cell, one of these cells across the Hudson River, and they got on -- this is the report and I emphasize I
don't know this for a fact but there's several witnesses who say this happened, they got on the roof of the building to look across, they knew what was going to happen, they were waiting for it to happen, and when it happened they celebrated they jumped for joy to see this happen, it was a great triumph, its inconceivable to me and to you, but David this is what we have to understand as a country, we're not dealing with the kind of thing we dealt with in any war we've ever fought before, because we've never dealt with these kind of hateful to the core evil people.

LETTERMAN: Have, have, have – has – is -- did this country years ago or currently make some kind of mistake that made us more vulnerable then we knew, has there any kind of – I think about the FBI its run like a high school Volleyball team,

This is probably important given that there are several articles on the darkestpuzzle blog which refer to these individuals...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
They were Israeli nationals who were caught filming the WTC, some carrying 2 passports, box cutters, electronics. Read the article:

EDIT: One more thing, do we have a wiki going? Is someone documenting everything so far? Time-lines? Known members of Darkcloud?
Lauren Tanaka (LaTanaka) is still our biggest lead...but nothing new has emerged on either her facebook or twitter...has someone found her elsewhere?

EDIT:

Although it's likely unrelated, is interesting that these conferences are taking place this month. Perhaps something will happen on these dates/times. Anyone in the area able to go?

I also received my clue package last week, and only just got to trying to read the floppy disc. Holycrap it's hard to find a machine with a working floppy Razz All our office computers were just upgraded - none have a floppy drive. My old desktop at home was out of commission long ago as my hard drives are all old and/or failed. None boot up Razz

I'm currently in the process of attempting a re-install of an old OS so I can read and hopefully copy the files off the disc. For now, here's the list of files I have...

askjeeves_late_2001.jpg (8/12/02 78kb) --all files are dated 8/12/02
comments6.jpg (23kb)
comments7.jpg (19kb)
darkestpuzzle.jpg (40kb)

screen shot 2001-12-02 at 9.52.43 pm.png (451kb)
screencap12sept2001.png (67kb)

working now on getting the files off. Whoda thunk 3 1/2" floppies would already be effectively obsolete Razz

I just received an email in reply to one I sent to infoSPLATthedarkestpuzzle.com

In addition to directing me to this forum and the Darkest Puzzle website, it included the following text:

Quote:
And a clue here:
darkestpuzzlellaSPLAThotmail.com
isthisnotagame

This works as a log-in to a hotmail account. The inbox contains two emails; an invitation to the Darkest Puzzle blog on blogger.com, and a reply from Geneviève Cardin of Baroblik Productions Inc. with the subject line "I just received my package".

Baroblik appears to be a real life French company involved in ARGs and other web media. Genevieve seems to be a real person (EDIT:personal details removed because she is indeed a real person/player).

I have accepted the invite to the Blogger (using my own account) and will see if I can find anything beyond what Morbus already posted.

Yes Genevieve is a transmedia/arg person, just one of the initial launch pkg recipients like me. Would be good to find out the contents of her disc though.
Additionally, yeah my pkg had the email and pw as well. I managed to get all but 1 file off my disc. It was erroring (cyclic redundancy error - oh the painful nostalgia!) on 1 file. May still try to get it by another means, but the files will be posted shortly. (they are different than the others posted here a couple pages back)

So we'll definitely need everyone who gets a disk to upload the files somewhere, as it looks like each disk will have a different set of contents. In my original DOS screenshot of the disk, you can see the Volume is named "PKBACK# 005", so it looks like there are at least 5 different versions of the disk.

@thebruce: make sure to capture your disk volume name too!

Kudos to anyone who can find a floppy disc drive these days!

Ok, after fixing the floppy disk sectors, I managed to retrieve 5 files without error, one with a bit of an error, and another virtually unreadable Sad

see attached.

I hope the PMs can offer an alternate way to get the two corrupted files.

..this is why we don't use disks any more ;P

ETA: And... umm... crap.. I think the disk fixing changed the volume label. It says the disk has no label. Serial number if 14FB-4448. d'oh.

Will Geneviere share the contents of her package with us?

I poked her on Twitter asking for it.

I also have a floppy disk. I'm having trouble finding a computer to read it. I wouldn't have thought that the technology would have all but disappeared by now.
Interestingly enough, the email I was sent is identical to Morbus', and so I was not able to access the blogspot (invite had been used).

If I can't get at the contents by tomorrow evening I'll mail Morbus the disk.
