I received the following email with a barcode attached from a Christina Helen Ross at christinahelenrossSPLATgmail.com yesterday (but my laptop was dead so you get it today):

I have to be careful. Can I trust you? I'm too close to these people, they would be disappointed that I'm sending you this. Seek and you shall find.

What I believe I have discovered so far:

The barcode decodes to DH0405843462. I used a check digit or checksum calculator and got NaN, which can mean Not a Number. Stumped on what to do next.

 		Verus Investigations is the right place to've ended up, definitely.

Got the email myself, followed it, have had an email exchange with Christina, which I'll put below.

As for how - I ran the bar code through an online bar code reader, and got the same alphanumeric as amandel, ran a Google and it brought up VI.

I didn't want my father to find out I was meddling in this case. He was so depressed because he couldn't solve the case by the time he retired.

The reason I asked for help because of the strange note I received in the mail with the following written in it:

I just can't live with myself. I had to tell somebody connected with this case. It's encoded so that it can't be read by a casual reader.

Can you tell what this message means:

AABAAAAABBABBAABABAAABBABAAABB AABABABAAABAABBBBAABABBBBAAAAABAABBBAAABABAAAAAABAABABA BABBAAAAAABAABA BAABAAABAAABABBABABBABAAAABBABAABBA AABBAABBBABABABAABAABAAABABBABABBAAAABAAABBABBAABB BAABAAABAAAAABABAAABAABAABAABBBAABA

It was unsigned.

Interesting.

It's a simple baconian cypher, and what it says is - well - it says a lot about this case. Translated, it reads:

EDMUND FITZPATRICK WAS SELLING GOVERNMENT SECRETS

 		Thanks for the explanations; I followed your steps and got the same results this time.
And, I agree with QAlchemist's OOG speculation; my research found the same.

Can't seem to make Reply button work, so I'm editing instead.

Also, I applied for Junior Investigator through the VI site. They sent me a quick form to fill out and sent me a confirmation text when they received it.

 		So I've dug a little deeper into this. and bumped into http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1844450913 who is apparently involved in this, I don't know if he's a creator or not.

The wiki has two phone numbers for them, one was replaced, so I don't know if it's still related or not.
