[TRAILHEAD?] Department of Corporate Sustenance Walking through central London this morning I spotted a poster on a wall with a large biohazard logo stating that on 12th September 2011, Canary Wharf (tall office building in London) would be closed to the public by order of the "Department of Corporate Sustenance" and that "Non-compliance with this order will result in immediate arrest and prosecution"
The poster included this URL:
http://www.departmentofcorporatesustenance.org.uk/
At first glance I dismissed this as publicity for some sort of protest. However, looking at the website in more detail, plus the Twitter and Facebook pages linked from the website, it seems to have a bit of an ARG feel to it.
There are no obvious hidden links or features on the website - other than the login to a "restricted area", and subscribing to the mailing list has so far produced nothing, but who knows.
There's a pdf of the poster here:
http://london.indymedia.org/system/file_upload/2011/08/23/426/poster.pdf
The facebook page has various photos of posters in-situ across London.
Thoughts?

Hmmm... not sure if this is an ARG. I'll lurk for the moment.
Possibly related, possibly not: on the 13th Sept there's a protest scheduled against the DSEI (Defence Systems Equipment International) - the world's largest arms fair - at the ExCeL centre. To me, it seems an odd coincidence to have both these events running on consecutive days (in roughly the same-ish area...)

I didn't know the UK had a Freedom of Information Act.
Anyway, you're right. I want to believe this is a game, or viral marketing, because if not, holee s**t.

This looks to be a British Demonstration/Protest group "Indymedia London " with a lot of events planed. Check their events page and home page after reading the link for this particular event.

If your really daring and and are not worried about the English "Big Sister" tagging and watching you. here is a contact e-mail for the even coordinators.
Contact email: enquiriesSPLAT departmentofcorporatesustenance.org.uk
In short, this is NOT and ARG.

Well, it's most definitely not real. If it was a real government organisation they would have .gov.uk as their website address. I would imagine some sort of real life thing will occur so if anyone has nothing better to do, I would suggest heading to this Exclusion Zone at the time specified with a camera phone and see what happens. I would if I could, but I don't live in London, or that near it. I've subscribed.
I think bu including the FOI page they are actually asking us to send them an FOI request. It applies to all government departments in the UK. There are exceptions in relation to national security but that can't exclude all information that could be asked for. http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_the_public/official_information/authorities.aspx
EDIT: Oh, how disappointing.

It's got to be an ARG, surely, what type od site other than an ARG has a little box in the corner claiming "Restricted Area" on it's homepage? And i think they would have a little more substantial signs than some pieces of paper taped to telephone boxes.
After a quick Google i found a post on a Police forum...
http://www.policespecials.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=122266
They seemed pretty sure it's not real too with a few reasons stated. I guess the only way to know is to play.
While this does look like an ARG, how could they afford to close off an area of London that size?
Also, there's plenty more stuff on their Facebook, which does look slightly ARGish too (why would a real HM Dept take photos of all of their signs around London and post them on Facebook?)...
http://www.facebook.com/DeptCorpSust
It's also funny to read people's comments on there, so much abuse.
Finally, when i joined the email thing, it linked me to another page, which states it's adress as being the same as HM's treasuries...
Department of Corporate Sustenance
1 Horse Guards Road
London, SW1A 2HQ
I sure wish i could be near London that day and check it out, hopefully someone here will so.

I'm not sure what to make of this any more - ARG, imaginative protest or some sort of promo?

Definitely an ARG, even if it's a viral of some sort. Could be exciting.
Is anyone planning on heading down there on Tuesday?
Sadly i'm at work and a 5 hour drive away.
