SlenderMan Videogame
Do you approve?

Do you think a Gaming Company using Slenderman as a antagonist in a video game, would be bad?
Would you believe it to be stealing a idea or using a urban legend manifested by the internet?

(Backstory: As one of our possible projects, we are thinking of using slendy as the antagonist of the story. We would integrate the lore that is currently out there for him, and add our own touch.
There has been disagreements over, if the People who know of Slendy would consider this stealing the idea.
I would like your honest opnion.)

If handled well it could be rather fun and worth it.

Of course your mileage may vary in that regard of being Handled Well. Having him thwarted as an antagonist, let alone actually physically defeated, might not go so well with some Slenderfans. But having him undefeatable, while it would be more Slendy of it, would also make some players feel cheated. It depends.

A "Gaming Company" using him not quite, if big name. If an indie game developer it would be more positively received I think.

As long as there was acknowledgement that Slendy was created by a lot of really talented people on the internet and was not an original creation of the company. And it would have to be a good game. But honestly, I don't see what kind of game you could create with Him and stay close to the mythos. A game that ends in your character's death/insanity isn't exactly satisfying and beating Slendy just seems to ignore the point of Him.

I think the only way Slendy could really work is if he were more like G-man from Half-Life, a vaguely antagonistic feeling entity that nonetheless isn't an actual ENEMY, you just see him sometimes and he seems to be driving the event somehow.

Hell, I almost wonder if G-Man didn't inspire the modern incarnation of Slendy a tad, now that I think about it...

Playing Half Life for the first time these last few days. I actually thought the G-Man was Slendy the first time I saw him. Embarassed I'm paranoid about men in dark suits now.

That's funny, but still not satisfying. The funnier still true ending on the other hand...

I don't think a videogame on Slendy could really work, but it could prove me wrong. I always thought Slendy received such positive attention because he was sort of an underground urban legend, you either know Slenderman or you don't, and most do not. He's sort of popular in his unpopularity, so bringing him out in a video game, movie, or anything that will make him wide spread in the general population might make his legend die.

Also, with what was pointed out before, having Slenderman be defeated by the protagonist or even fought against the protagonist might not go over well. That'll give him weaknesses, and so far he has none which has made him creepy all this time.

This would be a indie development. Slenderman would be untouchable. You all bring up a good point about the ending. Thanks, I was hoping to use this to push this concept forward or stop it all together. Looks like the community would be mostly fine with it.

I think the answer to your question would be "bad".

I honestly just believe that if Slenderman became mainstream then the value, the mythos, everything we cherish would diminish.

I picture it as something made in a 8-bit zelda style (because first of all, low-fi graphics go hand-in-hand with low-fi video, and second of all: like Zarg said, Slendy is hopelessly hipster :p)

You'd start out the game, set in a suburban neighborhood in the evening, everything's normal, and you're performing some kind of collect-quest. But somewhere in the level's layout, slenderman is hiding. And if you get too close...fuckery

And it'd be less a game and more of an inevitable progression toward the player character's horrifying death.
