There was already a pseudo crossover from Marble Hornets. In the entry (#2 maybe?) where Milo and Noah were up on the first tower, the name Alex is carved into the wood next to the Operator symbol.

I'd say that's more a tip of the hat to the original series than an actual sign of cross-continuity. Kind of like the nods in all of the Pixar movies, each film contains elements of all of their previous films, but that doesn't mean they're all set in the same universe. Unless it has a legitimate bearing on the plot I don't think it counts as a crossover.

Plus the fact their is so many Alex's in the Mythos.
