Has anyone decoded the beginning thing where it has the circle with 8 spikes sticking out of it. It's kind of like a loading thing. I'm trying to, but i can't capture an image of the 4th letter. So far I've got BGD_DLEO if someone can verify...the 3rd letter may be wrong, but i'm pretty sure about the other 6

I'm fairly sure it is A, B, C, D, E, F.. etc. I don't know where you're getting your translations from, but I'm fairly sure they're wrong.

I got BGDLEH. I think you have your G's and E's mixed up or it's me that has them mixed up.

[SPEC] Forerunner and Covenant symbols

OK, this is a bit of spec that is related to the Halo 2 site puzzle, but may end up being a bit OT.

We've seen what are assumed by most to be Forerunner symbols before in Halo as seen on the Halo Story page, which are essentially circles with markings on them. Now, on the Covenant technology pages (weapons page and vehicles page) on the new site, a symbol appears partially obscured by each item. Again, they are all circles with markings on them. They look different than the Forerunner symbols though. Where the Forerunner symbols look smooth and clean (like a sans serif font), these new symbols have more of a calligraphic look.

I'm guessing that these symbols are the more "flourished" script of the Covenant, based on Forerunner that was described in the books and mentioned elsewhere on this board. Only the technology on the site (which may have been coopted by the Covenant from Forerunner worlds) have these symbols, not the images of the various species. This could mean that only those things directly derived from or related to the Forerunner have a Covenant script symbol.

One item in particular might give the beginning of a Rosetta Stone for the two scripts. In the attached images, you can see the Forerunner symbol emblazoned on the plasma grenade in one image, and the corresponding new script symbol that appears behind it on the site.

Before someone shoots this down by saying "Hey, the triangle writing on the site is the Covenant language" I'd also like to suggest that this may be either a different way of writing in Covenantese, or even a different dialect.

Oh, while I'm on the topic, it also looks like each of the places denoted on the galactic map also have a Forerunner symbol associated with them, as well as what is presumably New Mombasa on the Earth map. Pretty obvious, but I hadn't seen in mentioned yet.

missing letters

I noticed that a number of areas have missing letters, like the 'danger' repeated several times by the MC. Has anyone counted these and tried rearranging them for a password? Just an idea.....

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about with New Mombasa...try moving your mouse over the Earth map. That's a cursor.

Ah, I see that now. Actually I only added that after I looked at the zip of the 43 decoded pages, so I was going off of a static image for the New Mombasa comment. Still interesting that the cursor is a symbol. Plus, this was not the meat of my spec.

Edit - Also, just because this is a cursor, that doesn't preclude it from pointing at New Mombasa by default. It isn't pointing at the center of the map - it starts just north of the Equator and east of the Prime Meridian.

I realize it wasn't the meat of your spec...but if people start trying to work out what each symbol means, and I wouldn't be at all surprised, they need to be aware that the symbol has nothing to do with New Mombasa, and by extension, Forerunner artifacts...although...both crosshair cursors and Forerunner artifact locations could be marked with a symbol meaning "target"...

Agreed. Since it's not static, it would be careless to assume much of anything in this case.

Has anyone figured out a away into the passworded sections? I dunno how flash works, but if someone can get the original english page, before translations (BOLL) then figuring out the passwords from an original source page or something like that shouldn't be hard...

I dunno, i'm not a Flash man...

I've been navigating the site for a while now, but there's no way I can input any passwords. I've tried everything. Ideas? When I type nothing happens, I can't select the boxes with the mouse and there's no buttons to press AFAIK.

I'm guessing the passwords probably have to be inputted in the covenant alphabet. Evidently, there is no way to do this. As a result, I'm guessing they (the password pages) are there for one of two reasons. They will be used at a later stage or they are there as space fillers until Bungie releases more content onto the site.

I read on, I think it was, HBO that some little kiddie was able to input passwords by pressing a series of control's or something similiar. My assessment of that situation is that it is a pile of trash and the kiddie is a forkhead. This was further supported by his inability to use the english language.

Those screens will accept keyboard input, but you have to do it fairly quickly after the page loads or it will time out, in which case you would need to cycle back and forth to try again.
