Frankly, I think HABIT might being doing this to show off something.

I was thinking about the nature of the tests. While almost heinous, there is a base to all these actions. Desire.

Thinking about all the test, they all had some sort of desire-based undertone; The burial of a precious item, The breaking of bonds of a trusted companionship, The mob rules mentality, The shunning of a large group of people, The destruction of a symbol of love, The demonstration of loathing to an elected power, and now The persistence of life.

All revolving around something we desire;
Material objects, Friendship, Acceptance, Fame, love, Power, and time.

The test seem to surround around destroying these, except the last one. I think HABIT doesn't want us to know the true nature of the last test, and he's luring us into a false sense of security. I think that in order to past this test, he wants you to destroy something involving time, and your body.
