'See more' topic
What the fans want

This is a topic addressed to the entire community. We all have our gripes, and we all have our joys. What do we all want to see more of in the Slenderverse and mythos?

This topic may be a good guide to aiding fellow vloggers as well as recollect on wonderfully-shot or performed scenes.

I, for one, want to see more direct confrontations than psychological. For instance, when we first saw Masky sitting on the couch. That alone made me grip the arms of my chair upon first view. Then he unnaturally bolted towards Jay. That kind of thing just set the entire video apart from the rest.

Then, things that happened just like in EveryManHYBRID with mainly Evan. going after him with a baseball bat, didn't necessarily work out well did it? We were in shock & awe once the screen went blank.

Then in UnearthTRUTH, one of my favorite vlogs.. their character is entirely a direct on person from how its been playing out. Just fabulous. It even killed off one of their main characters already. A first in slendy-related ARGS.

Don't get bogged down with puzzles if you don't feel they contribute to the story.
And, something I would like to see at one point is some on-screen evidence of the old hypothesis that until you see him on camera, your mind just filters him as some guy. That's a neat gimmick I don't think has been properly shown yet.

I guess I'd rather see a "less is more" approach with it. Less puzzles, less proxies , less 'episodes'.

I'd be completely cool with a really simply story arch that consisted of like...4 episodes. The "hey, I'm filming my niece" episode. The "Hey, my niece when missing and WTF WAS THAT IN THE BACKGROUND!?" The, "Okay, I'm where she disappeared and I dont' know wh-OH GOD!" And the, "Hey, do you know where my husband is video"

Before I go further, I think I need to clarify that I do love the state of the genre as is, I suppose this is just my personal "what I'd like to see out of one vlog one day" Or, if I had the times and the means, this is what I'd do.

A more genre savvy protagonist. Even the ones who claim to be familiar with the mythos from the start are still prone to "My friend is acting really strange lately and has a bad cough. Maybe they should go see a doctor. Oh and I'm being stalked by this tall guy in a suit. I think I'll go explore this scary mysterious forest now. And after that I'll go to the house that this guy who's making cryptic responses to my videos pointed out and I won't bring any back up or weapons."

I mean it probably wouldn't lead to long term survival but still I'd prefer it if they acted more reasonably, only going into the woods with a damn good reason, making sure someone came along to the mysterious house with them, was actually familiar with the signs that their friend just might be a Proxy . . .

The lack of genre-awareness is one thing that really frustrates me about the mythos. Think of Jay going to Brian's house *twice* at night. *facepalm* At this point, if you google "Faceless tall man in suit" you are going to get at least an entire first page of Slender Man links. And really, anyone who has ever watched a horror movie ought to know better than to go in the woods at night or explore creepy old houses by themselves.

I want to see better-performed reactions. "Oh fuck oh shit oh fuck oh shit" is just plain not the same as the visceral emotional reaction you give your audience when the main character responds to seeing Slenderman with a physical jolt and a truly blood-curdling scream.

The best example of how effective this is, is to watch "The Haunting", when the mother walks into a room where her kids are playing, seeing nothing but a couple open windows, and flips the fuck out in fear. You watch that and you go "OHH SHIT" even though all you're seeing is a couple stupid open windows. There is literally nothing that suggests a supernatural interference except for the mother screaming like her kids were being murdered. Compare that to a b-horror flick with decent gore effects and bad actors. You could be facing the biggest gross-out shot in the film, but the actor's terrible delivery probably means you're laughing instead of hiding behind your hands.

In other words: Please, vloggers! Rehearse more! I know it's a time sink but it's worth it!

You do realise that any creator with any self respect will do what they have planned and stick to their guns rather then give in to fans who are begging them to go into a direction that would not aid their series at all, merely slow down its progress or change the ideas and plots they had laid down on the table completely.

Actually, some of us read topics like this and try to better our series for the purpose of entertaining not only our audiences, but ourselves as well. To be a creator is to first be a fan of the Mythos. Directions can be modified without actually being changed if it means doing something more interesting.

EDIT: Lumine your avatar is amazing.

I use a rotating avatar.

I'd like to see another Slenderman photoshop thread thing, with stories connected to the pictures and everything.

This is not entirely relevent to this thread, is it?

And my earlier statement was badly worded due to tired grumpiness xD

What I ment was that I do not think any fanbase should be able to have their own input unless the creator already has plans for that xD

BECAUSE YOU ARE ALL BUGS FOR US TO SQUASH TROLOLOLOL

Actually, 20 IS being relevant. It's what we want to see in the Mythos. And actually, I'd love to see another thread like that too, it'd be fun. :3

Anyway, the idea of an ARG is that the fanbase DOES impact the story. So if an ARG creator doesn't want fanbase interaction, then they're doing it wrong.

Speaking as a writer, it does get annoying when people go "Oh, I wanna see character A do this~" (especially if it disregards past characterization), but that doesn't mean I don't love to see what people think would be neat.

Naw. I know at least one creator that went through a previous unfiction thread of gripes and would-like-to-sees and noted it all down during the planning stage.

It's research. Every writer, artist, whatever, has to do research. Otherwise your end result isn't as good as it could be.

Threads like this make it easy, it's more convenient than trawling through other threads to see what was well received and what was hated from other serieses.

Fair point...I was sort of refering to the stage that comes after your series has taken off. I am a (bad) creator myself and I did take some note from what the general fandom would find awesome...but I would not let anyone change my plotlines etc because they think they know better xD (3 posts later...I still cannot word my point correctly D: )
