[SPEC] Is Melissa Stepping Out??

The Future is looking bright. In fact, it's looking so bright that it could likely
burst into flames or simply explode very soon. All the stars are lining up too.

Jersey/Durga/Jan- All aware of and working with each other.
Jersey/Durga/Kamal- Kamal will soon be brought into the fold.
Jersey/Durga/Rani- Rani's alone and they will need each other very soon.

Melissa's only way of keeping Durga in check (hiding the .wav files) has
been compromised. She's going to have to step in and take charge if she
wants to accomplish whatever her goal might be.

Melissa wrote:

Durga must not interfere with the consummation of the truth.
My crew may be required to complete the mission in my absence.

When has any character in this whole ARG made a statement like this that
has not come true?

Better yet, what is the point of verifying us all as crew members, having
field exercises, and stressing teamwork if it is not going to be very
important in the near future?

We now have the ability to submit axons. More people will be able to get
involved. What do you think is going to happen when all of our axons
have crew names next to them?

Are the PMs getting us ready to run the show without Melissa? What do you
imagine this will entail? And finally, is there a way for us to start preparing
for it?

I agree, I'm starting to feel that there will not be much more time left, and something is going to happen to Melissa. The foreshadowing is there.

these new set of axons on recipe6 will go live on 10/19.
Then we have:
recipe7 live on 10/26
recipe8 live on 11/2 - exactly a week before Halo2 is out on the 9th.
And then we will be all out of recipes people! Wink

But seriously, I'm figuring maybe one or two more "Field Exercises", and then we will be in the final act of this glorious game. Of course I could be wrong. I've learned to expect anything with this game. Smile

I keep wondering to myself- "How the hell are these PMs going to keep me
interested once I can finally turn on my Xbox and be playing Halo 2 with 15
other BeeKeepers in under 5 minutes?" My answer- "They won't."

Seriously, I have loved this game since I got here in July. It has consumed
more of my time than any other piece of entertainment since Halo 1. Still,
if this game actually goes on past Nov. 9th, I'll be completely surprised yet
I won't really care. Could the PMs be blind to this? I don't think so.

The timer is ticking. Not just for Durga and her motley crew but for us as
well. We had our spike and our fluctuations, the big blast is on it's way.

What form do you think it will take? I can't afford to build a bunker with
starship grade generators and waste proccessing units. Hell, I don't even
have a duck pond. So, are there any other suggestions on how we can
prepare for Melissa's departure or what it will mean to us?

Dana is on her way back to America. Melissa is believing more and more that she isn't a threat.

Maybe Dana will lead us in the final days? Maybe she will become the new Operator?

I don't think it's realistic to expect all axons to be assigned to crew members (particularly when only a few weeks seem to be remaining).

But I certainly think this whole thing will lead up to some incredible climactic moment. Things have already been set in motion that will lead our characters to something big, and all of the Operator's exercises are likely meant to prepare us for a major crisis that will probably occur in November.

I can't wait to see what happens.

Regardless of our feelings towards Mel, or how many axons have crew
members, what is going to happen and what does it mean for us?

Absence? Doesn't that imply a voluntary leave that you could come back
from? Is she going to pop into the future, adjust some attitudes, and then
come home and gloat about it?

What will we have to complete while she is gone? Is there a way for us to
prepare for this? Ideas?

Maybe the fragile form she's taken on the website will fall apart for some reason, and we have to stop some sort of crazy plan she's put into action. I really think that by the end of this we will actively work with Kumal, Jan, Jersey, and Durga, as our timelines appear to be progressing at the same rate. We already are interacting with Durga in a positive manner by unlocking Herzog for her, she called us her "guardian angel", if we can find a way to communicate directly with her... we might just be able to do more then just send her locked files...

Re: [SPEC] Is Melissa Stepping Out??

Oh. Oh, geez.

Wild, wild, lunatic-type wild SPEC here:

Melissa believes that the "rogue process" -- otherwise known as the Sleeping Princess -- is jeopardizing her mission to seek, behold, and reveal the truth. Melissa also knows that just locking up the Princess is ineffective, as she escaped within a matter of days last time. So the only way to be sure of eliminating the Princess is to shut down ILB completely, wiping every bit of information on it. This will, of course, also destroy Melissa (and the Seeker/Pious Flea).

But the mission is more important than her own existence.

In the MAYDAY text, Melissa wrote:
I'd die for them, any

of them.

In the Phase 2 Operator's Monologue, Melissa wrote:
Capt. Greene: There's a bigger picture, Rolf. Several.

1st Lt Sorenson: The mission... This mission is more important than millions of lives? Oh my... god.

So when Dana gets back, Melissa is going to get her to shut down and wipe ILB. That's why she recruited a new crew, and is training them to carry on with the mission even in her absence.

(This will also sever Melissa's connection with Durga, of course. which will either (1) leave Durga free to reveal the whole truth, because Melissa won't be hiding parts of it any more, or (2) if Melissa and Durga are parts of the same entity, destroy Durga too, because they cannot exist separately.)

And thus endeth the ARG.

Actually that doesnt seem to far off... Makes sense now that she may want to "use" Dana instead of "kill" her just yet... I guess we'll see eh?

I have questions. Just how is Melissa getting these wav files anyway? If they are from the future, does this mean that she has access to that? And if she does intend to wipe out ILB, then would she just fuse with Durga or something to save herself?

Yes, I think Melissa's toast...

I agree with Shad0, although probably for different reasons.

From the beginning (which, for me, was substantially into the game) I've felt a closer attachment with Melissa than the other characters. I'm not sure why I've never felt much for Dana -- probably because I never corresponded with her, and by the time I became involved with ILB, she had fled and wasn't a major actor at the moment. As far as the SP, I've never identified well with children.

But Melissa -- there is so much there that I feel drawn to, and it's all so tragic: she's the Exile; the damaged child who has grown up to be brittle and distrustful, yet vulnerable; the traumatized victim, who can't remember the trauma well enough to move past it; the warrior who doesn't even really know what she's fighting anymore; the intelligent woman who's preyed upon and trapped by her own intelligence, and so on. I'm pretty sure it'll end in tears, because I can't see a good way for it to end that will allow her to stay true to her character. For this type of character, I think the only real redemption, and the only real homecoming, can be self-annihilation, whether it comes in her rejoining other parts of her personality and therefore becoming something other than what she is now, or whether it comes in literal annihiliation with the wiping of ILB.

[HUMOR]Is it possible that the coordination/communication/team exercises
are all an elaborate plan to teach us how to be an elite set of Halo2 clans?
[/HUMOR]

But seriously, Melissa used the word "absence".

absence

n 1: the state of being absent; "he was surprised by the absence of any explanation" [ant: presence] 2: failure to be present [ant: presence] 3: the time interval during which something or somebody is away; "he visited during my absence" 4: epilepsy characterized by paroxysmal attacks of brief clouding of consciousness (or possible other abnormalities)

Doesn't that suggest that she will still exist while being present elsewhere?

I think she is going Back to the Future to clean house and that she believes that she will survive. Mel doesn't want Durga messing with the Artifact and Durga is gonna try to play with it.

Self-immolation also means there's no Terminator paradox, where we learn how to build AIs by studying one sent back in time.
