Smithsonian - left hand phone as you face the maps.

Vermont - Tom as long as you're moving at night it's probaby not too dangerous, but people get mugged at that hour, and that's also sometimes hooker country at night. So be safe.

Conn&K is safer - more just the homeless guys who camp out at this phone, but even there the pedestrian traffic is pretty light so again be watchful.

I used to work at Vermont and M, I've walked that block a good bunch, so I will probably be all right. Besides, I never go anywhere without a decent sized knife.

to revise

I meant to say that I'm coming from the north side of the potomac, I could be of assistance for the midday mall area axons, 1132-1522 local, including union station.
1132:14th +constitution
1145: 12th and c
1212: I'd need better directions to this one
1218: 12th and d (although I'm pretty sure that there is no phone there)
1443: 6th +constitution
1522: 13th and jefferson

however if these are covered, I can help out with any others needed before 1600 local.

Ah, so the hooker rumors are true.

So how much do you charge?

Re: to revise

The reference page should be of great assistance.

11:45 and 12:18: There are two 12th and C locations - east is on the corner next to the parking lot (the phone booth is full of trash) and west is right at the door of the Ag Building next to a hot dog stand.

12:12: This is the "Natural History" axon listed on the ref. page.

14:43 sounds like it might be National Gallery. Check with Chappy on that one.

15:22: the 13th and Jefferson phone, unless it's been fixed, has such poor sound quality that we've gotten dumped every week of the last month or so. Go for it if it's convenient, but don't sweat it.

We'll be glad for the help - I may have a commitment on Tuesday I can't escape.

I've put my past behind me, Mike. You so can't afford me.

Araden - we know exactly where these phones are. Do not reinvent the wheel. Look up this thread for links to Chappy's page - it has the exact locations and consolidated map info and a description of exactly which phone it is (there's multiple phones some places). He may not have updated the times and axon order to the new list but the location info is ALL YOU NEED. If you looked at Cortana's xls doc, some of those were mislabelled - look at the one I posted. Those have the consistent names for all the axons we have been working and which are tracked on Chappy's page.

I'm not trying to reinvent anything, i was just making it known that I was available for those axons, all about coordinating available resources

Was reacting to this, which implied you were starting from scratch instead of using Chappy's resources:

Cortana, please let me get the Washington Harbour one, since that is the only one I can routinely get, and I always have hope that it will be a live call.

Kakashi, it's always best to have multiple bodies at call cluster locations, as frequently Melissa's going to have a task for us, or she's going to tie up one of us while the other phones ring. Definitely be glad to hand off a live call.

Yes. I know where it is. I'm the one who found it over a month ago.

I'm glad you all feel so safe. The fact is people do get mugged at night in the neighborhood (no it's not frequent but it does happen), and hanging around waiting for a phone to ring is not the safest behavior.

So when telling a stranger (you) about the phones, I (the one who's been doing this since July) want them fully informed that there are risks. Take it in the spirit it's meant. I'm sure you're a tough guy. That's not the point.

I think that you're being a little overly sensitive here, aliendial.

There aren't many places in the district that muggings DON'T happen. That's just something we have to be wary of. It's about street smarts.

You're both missing the point. I do not want some random lurker in these forums, particularly a kid or a woman, to head for phones in less safe areas without some idea of what they're getting into. With that concern, having someone declare here that Conn&K at night is no problem IS a problem.

So I provide valid information. Washington Harbor at 5 PM is not an issue. Conn&K at 8:30 at night is. It isn't the worst neighborhood or even particularly bad but it is not as good. People get mugged on occasion. The pedestrian level is very low at that point. I didn't get specific, but getting hassled by a couple homeless guys at night for access to a payphone is not my idea of a safe hobby.

I don't care that you all are brave enough to handle it or don't think the risk is too bad for you. You've made your opinions clear. I'm not doing this for you. I want it clear that there are safer and less safer phones. People can make their choices with better info and I won't be responsible for sending a kid to a phone in an unfamiliar neighborhood that they are not prepared for.

Your hyperbole is duly noted.
