N
cannon, origin

in light of the more recent page discoveries, {say, post FEB '11} how do you feel about the "N" video? i had kind of dismissed all the videos as sent by player/followers, but since seeing it again up on apd's "hatshoe archival", i'm thinking it might be part of the cannon, and may have been originated by hats or at hats' behest at least. any thoughts?

Yeah, husband has been on the index since Friday. Still fixated on the hatshoe.org/bree.html entry.

a couple things:

i was confused at first as to why i was seeing "husband" and other people weren't, but i figured it out. i don't understand why, but there seems to be a 2 day lag between http://hatshoe.org and http://www.hatshoe.org. It seems whatever server he runs through has problems automatically updating the "non-www" version. So anyone that hasn't, i suggest you change your bookmarks to "http://www.hatshoe.org" as it seems to update when he does.

@kh - yeah...i'm positive the videos are from hs...as in he created them. though within the story, it seems that he "receives" them which is where i think the confusion comes in. the verumbis ones, though, i'm still on the fence about.

@atat - i am too. i know you did a lot of catching up real fast, so if you weren't aware, "bree" seems to be the fourth in a series. it goes tell4, tell13, yourethebest, bree. i'll post them in order here so you don't have to go back hunting for them.

Side note: I decided to upload "dream.wav" from the toart email with subtitles to the "notshoe" youtube account for posterity.
(that is a confusing sentence)

New to Hatshoe aswell. I check in with Unforum occasionally to see if I get hooked anywhere, which has previously happened with Cloverfield and Marble Hornet. And this! OMG!
Read through all the five billion pages, but obviously much of it has been lost on me due to the crazy amount of seemingly random information.
Forgive me if I overdo things or point out the obvious (altho I suspect one post too much is better than one point to little at this point, huh?)

I'll slide into this on smaller notes:

Okay, remember when we did the whole coffee thing and he sent this picture?

And then we were trying to figure out the orientation of the picture itself and what we were looking at? And I said this:

Another interpretation would be that he's not actually holding up the paper (it does look remarkably flat) but instead, has laid it on a a glossy black coffee table, stood over it and shot straight down - holding the cup sideways in front of the camera. If this is the case, the reflections are probably overhead fluorescent lighting, which sucks for him. Does any of this matter? Absolutely not.

I'd say there is glass and mirrors involved. Instinctively, I feel the index page is attached to glass, like a window, and that the right light is a reflection in a mirror of the light source to the left. Possibly unimportant, but something about that picture IS important. HS is talking straight to you guys, and that wouldn't be wasted on saying nothing at all.

I'm reading, and re-reading the bree post. Help me out, does it say "Three weeks later we killed two of the three, and the wrong traitor of our group was dead too"?
Wasn't there something about uhm... killing three sumthing, (postmen ?) a few years back?

Let me just say that I'm belatedly happy to see newer players!

Yeah, the Postal workers. That's from station.

I don't remember if I posted this or not, but the funny artifacts in thebeverage.jpg and just the way the reflections look always made me think it was some strange monitor.

From that picture it looks like a really old TV set, like late 80s

And here's me possibly pointing out the obvious, but the tweet @trenteatspeople Thankings, Eumenoid! would be pronounced "humanoid", which could imply hs is, uhm, elsewhat.

@kh
2 entries containing variations of Richard I think we can chalk up to coincidence. A third, however, would seem to point to something. Peepers peeled.

@TB
Glad to have you on board!
Concerning the coffee pic, I agree that while the minor details of it may be unimportant, the picture itself is. I'm bummed our second attempt failed (with the challenge drawings...it was a long shot created out of frustration).
As for the "eumenoid" thing, here was my "analysis" after it was posted:
airportdisco wrote:
Also, five days after I tweeted him "Hope to have you feeling better soon, friend", he replied to me with "Thankings, Eumenoid!"

A quick googling found nothing for "eumenoid", but did bring up Eumenes, a Greek general and scholar. At first I took it as a compliment, until I read further and found this:
"Eumenes can be seen as a tragic figure, a man who seemingly tried to do the right thing but was overcome by a more ruthless enemy and the treachery of his own soldiers."
Now I'm not so sure...

Other possible references are "eumenidae", which is a family of wasp (which would make no sense), and "the eumenides", the third play in the greek trilogy Oresteia, wherein gods called Erinyes become known as "eumenides" which literally translates to "the gracious ones" or "the kindly ones". Whatever the reference is, i think two things: 1.) it was a compliment. 2.) hatshoe is way smarter than me.
Have you written a letter to HS yet?
I'm getting stoked that we're amassing a decent number of players for the first time in a long time. Hopefully this will inspire hatsy to step it up a bit.

You know, I haven't. What I did do, tho, was answer the apartment ad.
The page on hatshoe.org has the line "your anonymous craiglist adress will appear here" on top, whereas the ad itself actually have an anonymous craiglist adress. I figured that was proof enough the adress was ig and answered the ad.
Here's what I wrote:
Quote:
Hello,

I would like to know if this apartment is still available?
If so, I would like to know what the surrounding areas are like? Is it a peaceful neighborhood, enough so to provide the proprietor with good amounts of rest/sleep? Are there any neighbors?

Best regards
Kiacha Malone

In retrospect, I wish I had included an extra t somewhere in the mail, seeing how the ad has a "beautitful" in one of the first lines, but nothing to do about it now.
I'll let you know if I get an answer.

Wow. I had actually never noticed that.
Here's where things get tricky. A long while back, the key to a puzzle was misspellings which has prompted many of us since to hone in on them and question them (although they are very few). In fact, a couple like "/hetshop.html" and "/bortle.html" yielded results (though they're not necessarily helpful (yet?)).
The thing is, I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt when he simply fucks up. We all make mistakes.
But seeing as how this was on a computer (not a piece of paper), most browsers have spell check built in, and I believe Craigslist allows you to edit posts, I'm inclined to think that mistake was deliberate.
As usual, no idea why.
Good catch though.

Double post. Sorry.

While his Hatness is away and we have no clear direction, here's something I've been noodling.
Obviously, a majority of the source code messages correspond directly to clues or the answers themselves. For instance, the comment on Internet "but there was a 'd' in Kurt" refers to "thereisnoeincobain.jpg".
There's one that's been just sitting there making no sense to me for a while. The one on Terminus. It simply says "It can.". That really sounds like an answer to a question to me. As far as I know, no secrets have been found by way of typing in a question.
Just throwing it out there.

Well crap.

So it's been about 6 months but I'm still here. I'm really excited that we have so many new players so I figured I'd post for the hell of it just to keep discussion rolling.
Still haven't heard anything back from Hatshoe since Feb 26th.
I've been pretty good about not going crazy and emailing him a million times but this morning after watching the Notshoe vids, it got the best of me and I sent him an image with a question that has plagued me for a year.
"When you received 'Flavian', what did it mean to you?" (text over a screencap of the Flavian video)
Except I didn't type "received". I typed "recieved". Because I'm an idiot. I really wish Photoshop had autocorrect.
Hopefully he brushes off my faux pas and answers the question instead of correcting me which would be embarrassing. Hell, hopefully he answers me at all.
Keep fighting the good fight, shoe'ers. I'm returning to lurk mode but I'll post the second I hear from him (if).

PS - If this picks up again, I promise I'll finally make a profile for this site.
