[E-Mail] A Mission From Melissa

Well, I'm an Aussie, and did not call Melissa in time to get my personal details added. So, I e-mailed her my details.

Quote:
Melissa, this is DM, I was posted on to Apocalypso as a Petty Officer, Second Class. I was informed by Master Sergeant Ian, my friend and co-crew member of your appearance, and have been monitoring your activities on the website you commandeered. I believe I can help you. I was born in Australia, and got posted there recently, so I haven't been able to aid my fellow crew members in digging up your memories at the axons. More upsetting, your only other way of live contact is currently disabled, so this was the only form of contact I could use.

I want to help you, Operator, if you will let me. I am currently posted in Perth, Western Australia, and can be contacted on my cell phone at ***********. However, I am unsure of the international calling code for calling mobiles, you will have to find that for yourself-I am sure you will have no problem.

I hope to hear from you soon, M'am.

Sgt DM

And waited. I didn't have to wait long, less than 24 hours later I got an e-mail back.

Quote:
Soldier,
New axons pose a major security risk.
I can accept only public axon data via this channel, NOT private axon data.
I can accept public axon data via this channel when clear visual evidence of the original listing of the phone access number is presented along with the axon's GEOGRAPHIC COORDINATES and PHYSICAL ADDRESS, despite your location.
Please resubmit with corroborating evidence.
Good luck, soldier.

It's the same and different from what others have experienced. Before, Americans with broken pay phones were able to report the broken ones in and give new coordinates and such this way. However, now I have permission from Melissa to report in my own axon. Keep on the lookout for a coordinate in Perth, Western Australia next week.

So, this message goes out to people who were unable to call Melissa up before the time ran out-send in corrdinates, physical address and phone number, and you will get an axon of your own-just not a private one. Does this mean if Melissa continues to make live calls, international people could answer them?

Anyway, I'm off, I've got a phone to find.

Really? She'll call Australia??? I'd submit one myself, but all the Telstra payphones here in Adelaide have one digit replaced with an 'X' in the number. Let me know if you have the same problem, and if you manage to figure out the hidden digit if you do.

Sounds like you just need to make 10 phone calls until the payphone you're standing at rings. voila, that's the #.

I thought of that, but I didn't know if the X was just in place of another digit or whether it was some phone company only thing. I might try it tomorrow.

Whata bout calling your cell phone fromt he payphone? That should show the number of hte payphone inyour caller ID. (Unless for some reason you don't have caller ID on your cellphone)

at least in the U.S., most pay phones show up as "PAY PHONE" on caller ID's instead of a specific number. That's my experience anyway.

Also see this post by TridentT who also reports getting an E-mail from Melissa, but with an even more positive message.

I went searching for a payphone today, the ones close by don't accept incomming calls (one of them did, but it was out of order). So I am going up to my school today, since there are payphones all over the place over there.

As for the phone number on them. It was the usual 8 digit number, but the second last number was a letter. Like 9495-45X9. This either corresponds to its number on the phone pad (in the case of X, it would be 9), or some other reason. Telstra does have a payphone help service, if I can't work it out I will be calling them for more information.

lol, you don't tell them THAT. You make a white lie. "Hi, I need the phone number for this payphone so my mother can call me to see if I need to be picked up from school?"

Other Missions

So, Melissa wrote me this in my email:

Anyone have any idea what that might be?

how about her calling your mobile DM? shes doing it with crew members in the states right?

i would opt for the same, but exams are coming (damm you yr12) and they clash directly with the end of ilb.

so you can picture me sitting in my 3 hour english exam and my phone ringing with 'listen up ensign, your mission is to ....'

im sure she wont mind the international fee, she is all powerfull and all Laughing

if upon giving her you mobile, she still declines, give her your home address in gps and home ph Razz that should work...

cos im not too sure how the incoming phone calls work with aus pay phones.... if they work at all.

*possibly you could get a crew-member to mention you, thus making her think you private line is secure, dunno*

good luck Smile

Yes, she is, but for a personal phone call to my mobile I'd have to ring her, and her message bank is full. So that is a no-go.

See my post above about this. They all have the second to last number replaced with an 'X'. It's either obscuring another digit, or it's something only Telstra have access to. Anyway, I don't plan on testing all ten digits in there, since the rest are likely to be houses in the area.
