I think its pretty clear that this game is going to take us all the way up until we get our copies of Halo 2 and put that cd into our xboxes. As far as where Melissa will go....we don't really have any concrete evidence or hints as to where she might go.
AngriBuddhist mentioned her going back to the future. If that were the case, would Melissa WANT to be working with Durga to (for lack of a better explanation) pull her self back together in the future? Instead she insists on hiding crutial information from Durga about the artifact and herself.
[spec]Unless, of course, Durga figures out what exactly is going on, and figures out a way to wipe Melissa out of existance. In which case Durga becomes the "new operator" and asumes an active role in Halo 2.[/spec]
Shad0 also mentioned Dana coming back and shutting Melissa down herself. I would think that this would have more of a justification, because if I were in Dana's shoes and I saw that my family was now in danger of something that was living on my web server....The fist thing I would do would be to unplug it and burn it.
This is just my view on the situation. Anyone else have anything to add or correct me on?

i agree that i would unplug and burn it, but she is building roads (to payphones, i know, but that's just proving that she can take over other systems), and when durga was talking to jersey, she said that even if he tried to delete her, she could just move to another system...
i don't think dana really has the ability to delete melissa unless she wants to be destroyed...
would she try to survive, evade, resist, escape destruction?

Heh, isn't that one of the main goals of this whole game? To build a larger Halo/Halo 2 audience? I don't have an xbox but, oh man, I really want to buy one and get Halo 2 to A) find out what happens to Earth and these characters and B) keep in contact with other BeeKeepers. I have only played Halo 1 a little bit but I am really tempted to buy that game and all of the books because the I find all of the Flash-cloning/AI/Spartan story lines really interesting.
And on the Melissa absence idea ....

I expect Melissa would still have something planned to try to kill Dana (or whatever her fiendish plan is) even after she is dead. (Not really useful spec since its almost expected of something with her intellegence and resources and personality, but there ya go).

Actually, now that you mention it...
One could even wildly (and hopefully) speculate that they might use ILB clans as, say, a test group for upgrades or something. Considering that they will have created a group that is extremely well-organized (for being so far flung and connected by nothing beyond our interest in Halo/ARGs), enthusiastic, and more knowledgeable regarding the Halo universe than the average player, it would be a shame not to use us for SOMETHING.

One can only hope Phaedra - Or.. (since Bungie might be monitoring) free copies of Halo 2? PLEEEAAASSSSEEEEE?!?!?!? Yeah so I already have one on reserve - I can always use another for lan parties.
Or maybe even Microsoft will pitch in 3 months free LIVE! subscription?
Does anyone have [SPEC] or info on the Limited edition copy and the DVD possibly playing a role in all of this other than the "Making of"?

I don't really have any [SPEC] at all about the actual DVD. It's possible that it would have something connected to the story of ilovebees, but remember that two weeks (only about 2 more codegroups right?) has a lot of axons involved and can finish the story right there.
Don't get me wrong (don't wanna be a buzzkill lol GET IT!!!)...I HOPE I HOPE I HOPE there will be a good connection between this ARG and Halo 2 in "Halo 2". But I'm sure they won't alienate non-ARG'ers.

A bit [OT] but...it would be cool if they had all the .wavs on the DVD.
Who knows, the last couple weeks of sound files could be from the Apocolypso prior to the crash. That way we all (ARGers or not) could have the back story to Halo 2.

The timer is ticking. Not just for Durga and her motley crew but for us as
well. We had our spike and our fluctuations, the big blast is on it's way.
I agree. Of course, I got into flamewars over it. But its good to know that, given enough time, Scumbag tends to be right

Can Melissa survive in our world much longer?
She seems genuinely angered at Dana's attempts to delete her, which isn't a real threat to Durga, she'll just move to another system.
There are references in the Bungie history of AIs expanding into world spanning networks, and that's hundreds of years in the future. I wonder how big Melissa is. You certainly couldn't download her functions to a DVD and walk off with it!
Maybe she has to go because there isn't enough room in this time and place for her? Maybe she's already tapped out our resources, despite her road-building, and found only blind alleys?

ask England, Canada, Australia, etc if she has tapped all possible resources and has no where to go? (I did not mean that to sound like a smart behind)

Melissa must have discovered the power of distributed computing. If she runs out of power, she'll use her influence to get a few more computers bought so she can use them to do some more calculations.
Remember, every time you turn your computer on, you're helping Melissa complete her nefarious deeds.

But that's my point. Sort of.
Are a few more terabytes going to make much difference to a computer program that was developed in an age when children's toys probably run on a few hundred gigs?
The portion of Melissa that communicates with us is only a small piece of all the processes that must be running at all times to allow her her abilities. Just the tip of the iceberg so to say.
She's used to a world where every appliance is networked, and everyone is on the grid at all times. Why do you think finding Dana is so frustrating for her?

Actually, my boyfriend had a similar idea. We know more about the Halo universe than most people in OUR universe, and as such, we are a very valuable commodity if used properly, or exploited properly, however you want to see it. Personally, I'd love to be exploited for Halo marketing (if you can't tell by my repeated attempts to get people involved here in NM).
He had some pretty farfetched ideas, but none were as farfetched as having roughly 500 people across the world answering payphones from a voice actress pretending to be an AI sent from the future who is trying to reveal the Truth about SOMETHING that no one is quite sure what it is. Nothing quite as farfetched as those people then re-transmitting those calls to yet another AI in the future so the truth can REALLY be revealed. And it definitely wasn't as farfetched as actually holding those peoples' interest for FOUR MONTHS!
So, PM's, I hope you have some good ideas for how to use us to best advantage. We've already shown that we're more than willing to do embarrassing /confusing /bizarre things all in the name of this game or even just the mystery of the whole thing. So PLEASE, don't let this end with the end of the ARG and Halo 2's release. This can go so much farther if only you grab it soon. Otherwise, the biggest possible marketing and advertising system ever in the history of entertainment will be lost, and it will be a shame.
