Just so I keep everyone in the loop:

Cory, you wouldn't happen to have records of any past participants or volunteers, would you? We've been toying with the notion that that list of girls we discovered last night might be previous test subjects of Veil's. Given that this group of recruits are required to cut off any ties to family or friends prior to the project, that could be where they went 'missing' to. Just some ideas we're kicking around.

However, I did find something today, and I can tell you about it.

Last night, Josh Argeris suggested that I look for someone named Ed, who was the apparent sender of the message hidden within the newspaper file.

I think I found him. I went through the employee database and found the last Edward that worked here. Here's whats strange...

He was let go at the end of 2008. Nothing too interesting there.

However, I also found something pretty odd. At the end of 2008, it looks like the ENTIRE research department was let go.

Interesting, right?

2008 is right around the time of Eve's disappearance. Whole Research Dept. gone. Waiting on a response to see if he knows why yet.

Best guess as to why the whole department is gone:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Regardless of the outcome, they canned the whole department to protect to previous project. Maybe they aren't even alive anymore, or something else. Who knows. That way, new department comes in, no clue about anything previous, more likely to plod along and do what they do best: create some crazy thing without any compunction all in the name of "science" and "progress".

I'm not going to post the IRC chat now because a lot of it has to be cut out and I'm bloody tired. But basically with a little nudge from Cory I figured out that the photo that was sent from Data Server 3:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Needed to be destegged. After some help from liveinskin, I got my program to work and voila! There was another picture hidden in that one. (see attachment)

Cory says he's never heard of Ward Five or any of those people. But wanted me to tell as many people as I could and to let Bill know that his daughter does have something to do with Veil. I've never talked to Bill so if someone could do that who has, that would be great.

I'd start looking up these names and what does Ward Five mean to the test subjects but like I said, way too tired.

Good luck!

Britt

Curious, was there a password inorder to destegg the file. What program did you use to detect/destegg the picture?

If I read the IRC correctly, she left the password blank, which is what worked.

There was no password and I named the file uncoded myself. The original .bmp file was called eve. I used a program called wbStego 4.3 open. Whenever I tried to enter a password it wouldn't continue. No password worked, and Cory was very adamant that there wouldn't be a password. And on that note, though it was my own original idea to destegg the photo, Cory was basically holding my hand throughout the whole process, and I got the feeling the PMs were getting a little annoyed we were taking so long to figure out the photo. He also kept saying to tell as many people about this as possible, so it seems they want us to help bring more testers in.

In the IRC convo there was a few key points:

-Cory says he'll soon tell us why he wrote his name in the packets

He thinks its weird that Veil just has this info sitting around on a Data server, especially with all the information about Eve and Bill Randall.

Quote:
[23:29] <cwester10> At first, I heard about it, and I didn't know why, but I didn't think about it. I was too worried about my own problems. But then reading the blog, and knowing that this guy's daughter is missing and Veil has this sitting around somewhere? It's just too weird.
[23:29] <cwester10> Last night, it's all I could think about.
[23:30] <Britt> And now Bill is signed up for Veil's testing
[23:30] <Britt> Well we're all signed up for that but
[23:30] <Britt> I just hope he finds his daughter
[23:30] <cwester10> He is?
[23:31] <Britt> He says he is
[23:32] <cwester10> Luckily, the application is just the preliminary search. You'll get some more information in a few months.
[23:32] <Britt> Yes, there is the countdown on the main Veil website
[23:33] <cwester10> Right, after that, the preliminary search is over and some panel somewhere in the company, probably Veil, Bradenburg and Miller, will narrow down the selections.
[23:33] <cwester10> That could be weeks or months though, I'm not sure. The actual testing doesn't start for another year.

The rest was basically me trying to get the desteg program to work and properly save the file.

Tried using that program, to see if I could desteg it, and it did not work. Any other programs out there good for destegging?

Don't be rude.

Devarin, when you used the one I used, did you save the desteg file as another picture file (.bmp, .jpg)? Or just tried to move forward? There is also no password so you just click forward on that step.

Bummer on Cory not having access to "volunteer" records. Yay to finding out a new tidbit.

When was Cory hired? Assuming after 2008. Was there another department that was just replaced?

Wasn't there someone involved with the research department that Cory trusted? Wonder if we could push them for any info on the big project.

Cory was hired on in 2007, I believe his email says.

EDIT: Apologies, I must have forgotten to post those emails.

I know. Well the guy is a hermit, I think. He's the man behind the curtain.

I've worked here since 2007, so it's been about four years. And I've seen the guy, at the most, once a year. The people who know him most are Donald and Hope, for sure. They've been around the guy forever.

What's really crazy is that, if Bill's daughter had something to do with Veil around that time period when everyone was let go, I was here....I was here when they let entire departments go. I was the office custodian then, though. I told you, I started at the bottom...

A year later, I was promoted to Junior HR Assistant, but it looks like I missed all the drama.

I wish I had more information for you.

I made a folder on my DT named "destegged" to save the files.

Selected Decode
Selected the file 'eve.bmp'
skipped password
selected my 'destegged' folder to save it in, naming the file name either 'eve2.bmp' or somthing like that.
Ran the process.
After the process was complete, I opened the folder. There was nothing there.

I will give it another go, and take photos as I go in case it doesn't work.

EDIT: No joy on the next several tries. Here are links to the photos:

Only thing I can think of is that the copy I have (for some reason) isn't encoded with anything....

From what I've seen, it should be okay. The picture I used was straight from my email, and did basically the same thing as you.

Odd. This was from a link someone posted earlier in the thread. I know it *should* work...

I haven't been following this story and I haven't had internet for a few days, so I don't know if I'm late or if this is needed, but I'm attaching the picture I got in this email:

eve.bmp
[/quote]

Now, the problem is eve.bmp is a .bmp and I can't attach that. Should I just make it a .jpg or might something be lost? Or do you have this already?

Um... So I just got an email from Dataserver3 again. But it's -completely- blank. No body text. No attachment. No nothing. I'm trying to see if I can find something abnormal in it, but I'm not seeing anything. Literally.

No subject. No body text. No attachment. Has anyone else received this? Or did the PM screw up on accident?
