Well, there are a few ways this delay could be explained in-game that are at least somewhat plausible. At least in my mind.

1. Jay hasn't found the tape yet, either because he lost/misplaced it, or because someone stole it. If either of these were the case, Jay would presumably be spending as much time as he possibly could looking for it.

2. Jay found the tape, watched it, but hasn't decided whether or not he should upload it. Similar to Entry 34, but without tweeting about it this time.

3. Jay has been taken captive/incapacitated by the Operator/Tim/Alex/Hoody.

4. Something happened with the Operator/Tim/Alex/Hoody, and Jay is currently moving somewhere else. Recall that after the Entry ###### when Jay decided to leave it was ~9 days before we heard from him.

What are the chances that Jay doesn't have the tape anymore, because, knowing how special the footage is, he locked the tape away in a separate location. He locked the tape away in Jessica's safe at the hotel when they arrived there (before their memories were wiped out). And whatever number he wrote on the tape's case is the password for the safe that Jay never opened?

Maybe that last part about the password is less likely, but what do you guys think of the rest of the theory?

It's long waits like this that COMPLETELY kill the immersion. I recall in a MH interview they said they'd make the gaps make more sense. They still dont make a bit of sense.

While this probably won't happen, I think it'd be cool if that tape wound up being a prequel to the one J found at the red tower, something showing what Alex meant when he said "it got" J and the others, maybe footage of him recruiting Seth to help him investigate the boiler room, work some exposition in there. More likely they're done revisiting the summer of 06, though.

Maybe he's just been busy. I suspect that while he's on the run he pays for food and shelter by doing random oddjobs in whatever area he's in. I mean it's unlikely he's got a steady job as much as he moves around, but we know he affords groceries and stuff somehow.
