I want to make a Slender Man video game in flash.

So I'm a college student learning how to code for games, particularly in C++. Currently the only complete games I can create are flash games using actionscript. So I've wanted to make a Slender Man game for a long time now.

I'm thinking.....Heavy Rain type gameplay. Multiple ways the story can go with options in conversations and such, plus the same type of action based on buttons.

Biggest thing holding me back now is that I can't draw for shit.

It'd be pretty awesome if someone could draw for flash. I doubt I'll find anyone, but why not throw it out there? Also I'd be interested in any other comments or suggestions.

Heavy Rain gameplay in 2D is called "Adventure" gameplay, and it's incredibly common. If you want some ideas on how to implement it, go over to Kongregate's adventure section, or their forums, and see how some of those were made.

The advantage of making an adventure game is that the art will *never* actually be holding you back. Just start coding as though you're making a text adventure that doesn't need syntax input. You could have the whole game "completed" without having a single art asset in your hands.

*Epic Sigh* Crying or Very sad I've been getting into programming with the goal to eventually start creating flash games. Of course that is at best several months away, although I did want to make a Slender game when I started.

On the other hand, someone might actually do a game in this genre Surprised !!! I look forward to seeing what you come up with, who knows maybe this will help furthur populerize the Slender Man mythos. Good luck on your game, and let us know when it's done.

Kongregate makes some high quality flash games, so I agree wholeheartedly. I'd also recommend Armorgames.com. This might be a good source of inspiration.

While I can't offer any personal advice, I will say that I support the idea of a Slenderman-based game. There are also some well done horror based flash games here. Just remember that, even though Slenderman is the game's antagonist, he's not the main show. The main theme I've seen in many slendervlogs is "the search for truth," and you should focus on that primarily. Slenderman is the antagonist because he hunts you for trying to find the truth while choosing ignorance makes him ignore you. The story should be driven by a mystery of which Slenderman is only one part. EMH and TT have the Corenthal Connection and MH has the 7 month amnesia plotline. Your story should definitely be thought out before making a single line of code.

Also, if you could incorporate weird stuff like the game distorting and acting funny when Slenderman is nearby would be just amazing!

Okay, heres an idea: Make a 2D mario style platformer, and as the game progresses, glitches start to happen. visual tearing and the like. Right before the end level(in a forest, or some other slendy like place)the character finds slendy, and the game glitches out and crashes.

You realize that's basically Eversion, right?

They're referring to the game Eversion. Read about it on Wikipedia.
