Well, and Jay. Unless you're counting him as part of the cast of MH.

Jay was the script supervisor (#20). He's at least crew.

At this point, there's no way to know for absolute certain how people see him when they're not looking through the viewfinder of a camera. Entry 12 seems to indicate that when they're not, he appears non-threatening. But we don't know how he looks in, say, Entry 46. Does Alex see him as Jay does, through the viewfinder? Does Jay even NEED the viewfinder to see how damn creepy he is? It's hard to know, at this point.

I'm pretty sure Jay isn't looking through the viewfinder when he sees The Operator in 46. He's standing there talking to Alex and appears to be holding the camera at about chest level. (It angles up to Alex's face.) As scared as he is, I think we can be reasonably confident we're seeing what he saw.

If that's the case, why weren't the cast in Entry 12 a little more unnerved by the presence of a freaky-tall man with no face? And I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything, I genuinely wonder.

DaveK, can you clarify whether or not you feel the Operator is real? If you're trying to argue that the Operator is a creation of Jay, Alex's, or someone else's imagination, I will disagree with you. However, I am intrigued by the notion that there is no physical body to the Operator, but rather his appearance is an impression forced into the minds of the viewer by whatever-the-fuck-he-is.

Unfortunately, that last theory can't work on the sole merit that we (the audience) are seeing him in a recorded video... which isn't fooled by tricks of the mind. In order for digital film (or even analog film) to capture an image, there must be matter there for light to bounce off of into the lens -- or something that projects photons that are absorbed into the lens.

See, you're bringing real life physics into a discussion about a supernatural entity. For what we know, the mere image of The Operator is variable based on who sees it and what it wants to be seen as. It could be a fundamental law of The Operators nature, making it so anything captured of it iswhat it wants the viewer to see.

I'm bringing real-life physics into the equation when talking about objects that function on real-life physics, like video cameras.

Now if you're implying that the Operator is imprinting himself on the recordings themselves (be it analog film or digital data), that's another argument entirely and predicates on him either doing it intentionally or as a result of his existence.

Have to say I have gotten blinded from science on topic. So far it looks then like only few people can see the Operator moving.

He was seen by a plane-full of people in TribeTwelve's 'Northern Trip,' but I guess that's unrelated. MH-wise, I don't believe anybody outside the cast of MH (and Amy) have seen him.
