Carroll Spinney was the person/puppeteer that portrayed Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on Seasame Street.

edit: Just a quick note before bed... I think the math solution is the right way to go but just an off the wall idea: the lower case letters in the green boxes in the grid from Aquarius total 56 in scrabble or 38 discounting the correct number of l's and z's. The upper case don't anagram to anything and don't seem so "scrabble-y". Since all I'm wasting is virtual ink, I just thought I'd throw that out there.

I think I'm confused about base 64, the converters I've been using only give mainly letters? (ie the letters in the PDF grid I posted)

Something that has been bothering me is that Vladimir mentioned in one of the chats posted above "cover all the bases" which made me think we should be looking at other bases too? Ack, it's all too confusing!

Edit: Ah, I see, you're looking at the base index... Embarassed

Edit 2: Intueor on twitter? http://twitter.com/#!/intueor
(again you'll need to copy/paste the whole address into the address bar to see it)No tweets as yet but I am following just in case.

Apologies for the double (and extremely long) post, but this was chat tonight if it helps:
Quote:
kianebull joined the chat
vs3.1: Welcome
kianebull: good evening
vs3.1: The test is taking you then?
vs3.1: error: taxing
kianebull: Taking me, yes, taking me over!
aquarius904 joined the chat
aquarius904: Hello
kianebull: "it is like something was inside of us, something lower than us, trying to make itself heard... made us feel quite green..." sounds painful, are you better now?
kianebull: I have suspected that more than one base will be needed to solve the test, would this be accurate?
vs3.1: No.
kianebull: Thank you
vs3.1: Only one base is needed - though, arguable 64 of them are needed to be understood.
vs3.1: A 'translator' will not help you as there are no octets - just individual squares...
kianebull: that I finally worked out today, after a long long time...
vs3.1: You do understand our * as well though yes?
kianebull: I'm good with rocks and minerals, *'s are a bit beyond me
vs3.1: For * try UUU then
vs3.1: * was referred to in our first communique - in binary -
kianebull: I will revisit that thank you, sometimes you follow so many branches on a road you forget wher you started out from.
kianebull: error. where
kianebull: your initial reference to test sent me to the periodic table!
kianebull: I fear I have such limited knowledge of this type of puzzle that I will be of no help to my comrades
vs3.1: Not out intention, but the elements of this test are purely mathematical and logical rather than chemical or alchemical
vs3.1: kiane - what is 2+3=?
vs3.1: aquarius - you are quiet. Is everything all right?
kianebull: One would normally say 5
vs3.1: error: our not out
vs3.1: Then you have the skills needed for this test.
vs3.1: If I gave you '5' could you posit the existence of 2 and 3?
kianebull: Yes, though simply by asking you make me doubt
vs3.1: Did you find what was dull in the test?
kianebull: You could also show the existence of 1 and 4, or 0 and 5, or -1 and six. The possibilities are endless
Maurice joined the chat
Maurice: Hello
kianebull: good evening Maurice
vs3.1: Yes - but to limit you would need a range of numbers - and as we try to never be negative...
vs3.1: If only you had a list of numbers that would make sense when subtracted from another group of numbers...
vs3.1: Are you in that position?
kianebull: I am not, however the collective may be by now, we seem to be in very different time zones
kianebull: Hang on, I may be overcomplicating it
vs3.1: Time is partly the issue of the project - but not the test - here are no clocks in this test - just numbers. Position yourself so you have a list of numbers to subtract - regardless of where you are as they are international numbers...
vs3.1: error: here=there
kianebull: here just about worked
vs3.1:
kianebull: I am curious, where do you think here is, on a day to day basis?
vs3.1: For you or us?
kianebull: for you
vs3.1: We do not think -we know where we are. We are not at liberty to reveal that - yet.
kianebull: Ah, curiouser and curiouser
vs3.1: Due to the nature of the objects currently held in our possession - we must, for secrecy reasons and matters of international security, not divulge such information - especially in a chat forum. Please respect this need for secrecy right now.
vs3.1: Kiane - you comment as a cat or a girl?
kianebull: or as a catterpillar?
kianebull: caterpillar
vs3.1: Odd - your comment almost answers your location questoin - but that being put aside - do you think you can now broach the test in a better manner?
vs3.1: error: question
kianebull: I hope never to answer as an oyster. I feel a little more confident I think, thank you vs3.1
kianebull: ?
vs3.1:
kianebull: Maurice and aquarius, you are both very quiet
vs3.1: Aquarius904 / Maurice - is all well?
vs3.1: awaiting comment/input/reply...
Maurice: All is well... busy with computing at the moment!
kianebull: computing numbers maybe?
vs3.1: May we be of assistance?
Maurice: Vlad, Is there meaning behind the term 'desone'?
Maurice: dasone
vs3.1: Maurice: Please specify 'dasone' - context required
Maurice: Perhaps I have gotten ahead of myself...
Maurice: More calculation required
vs3.1: This we do not encourage...
vs3.1: [oog nudge to help as this PM is quite tired... http://tinyurl.com/3456xfg]
kianebull: Oh lord have I been there!!
vs3.1: [ meant in humourous rather than sarcastic manner - please do take as such!]
vs3.1: To all - this test continues - we will not hint anymore - you, as 'candidates' have enough information between you now - share, talk and work it ou.

I edited out the general chat, I think I need to let you decide what is relevant. At the time I missed it when he asked
Quote:
vs3.1: Did you find what was dull in the test?

which I guess is another hint but I'm too worn out right now to think.

Edit: Kian E Bull is me BTW Wink

Okay, so taking the hints from the chat and the endless days of goggling. The solution presented itself as rather simple... at least to get to the next point.

Solution:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If we subtract the ICCB codes from each number on the board, then take this number and decode it from Base64:
p R o n o u n c
E d a s o n e L
e t t e r a n d
w r i t t e n w
I t h 3 2 l e t
t e r s T h e r
r e a r e a * *
2 o n l Y i n me?

or: pRonouncedasoneLetterandwrittenwIth32lettersTherearea**2onlYin me?

or: pRonounced as one Letter and written wIth 32 letters There are a ** 2 onlY in me?

Which is a riddle! Had to get this posted - I'll start on the riddle now too!

edit:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Pronounced as one letter and written with 3, 2 letters. There are a ** 2 only in me?
---- "What is an 'eye' ?"

edit2: If we take the * and change it to
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
111
(from the magic squares solution).... and apply it the same then we have:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Pronounced as one letter and written with 3, 2 letters There are, and 2 only in me?

Nicely done, Maurice! That's quite an impressive solve. Have you sent the answer to Vlad yet?

I have. I sent Vlad an email with the answer. He sent back this:

Enjoy...

It appears that the video has a message about VS at 1:11 in.

HA! Yeah, I was in a meeting but I entered the chat anyway. Vladimir messaged me on Facebook:

Quote:

Vladimir Sirin:

How may we be of assistance this evening?

Me:

Yes. Is my position on the chess board 103?

Vladimir Sirin:

Your position?
There are no pieces on the board. Yet.
This test does not require any. It merely examines whether you can work out our testing amthematical cipher.

Me:
Would the number in that square be 103?

Vladimir Sirin:
Which square?

Me:
Me?

Vladimir Sirin:
That has no number.

Me:
ok. so my theory was wrong.
back to square 1 as it were.

Vladimir Sirin:
Smile There is NO square 1.

me:
i'm going to have to revamp my theory
does it have to do with algebraic notation?

Vladimir Sirin:
Does what? Wink

Me:
The test.

Vladimir Sirin:
Yes. And no.
b+p=s
As it were...

Me:
hmm.
ok.
something to ponder on
arithmetic...

Vladimir Sirin:
Of course, internationally speaking, English is the language being used, but numerically [you may note this], we use the standard form.

Me:
Noted.
I will take all of this into account.

Vladimir Sirin:
Not account, just note. Totally understood?

Me:
Understood.
note.
notation made.

So, it was simple arithmetic using ICCF numeric notation, which also falls into line with the "internationally speaking, English is used" comment. It all ties together. So simple, yet so mind effing. Well done, Maurice. So do we need to each send him the answer? Or is he aware that the answer was shared?

Don't know if its relevent but when he said your first "revelation" with the numbers 1:11 at the end I looked it up in an online bible:

Revelation 1:11 pretty much says write down what you see in a book or scroll and send to the 7 churches in... etc, etc. Some translations also include the saying I am th alpha and the Omega at the beginning.

Don't know if this is important but... there you go.

EDIT: Nicely done Maurice!!!! My brain can stop hurting. I feel stupid coz he said stuff in reply to my emails that probably would have helped but I didn't think to post them here or use them to solve the bloody thing. He said stuff about how would you describe the board to some one who couldn't see it which hinted at the international correspondance chess but I'm an idiot so oh well. Sorry guys I've learnt my lesson.

Having re-read the thread, I took a closer look at the file Vlad sent me. Sure enough, behind the writing was a picture.

The writing says
Quote:
They're throwing knives into the tree
Two big bags of dead man's bones

Which is a line from Bob Dylans "Tweedledum and Tweedledee:

Funny, I was involved in a presentation discussing these two men(dee and dum) and their relationship just yesterday.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hall_Freud_Jung_in_front_of_Clark_1909.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigmund_Freud
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Jung

They were close, Jung was heralded as Freud's apprentice, until they had a falling out during a trip over sea to America. The presenter joked that that was what was to be expected when you spend weeks together interpreting each others dreams....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Jung#Relationship_with_Freud
They differed in regards to their interpretation of the unconscious mind.

You will notice his first name is Forest....

Scroll down to the bottom, will we see Desmond's name crop up later in the game?

From my interactions with Forest he never seemed to be much of a 'handler', let alone heavily involved in Intueor. At this point I think the White Rabbit handler is probably someone else.
