What if they taped all of Season 3 ahead of time?
Would it be better?

Once this season comes to a close the Marble Hornets crew will probably take a nice long break which they deserve.

However, what if they went on between the off time to film everything or nearly everything for season 3?

These waits are pretty frustrating and sometimes ridiculously unrealistic taking me out of the experience. I mean it took Jay a week or more to find a single clearly marked tape. Doesn't seem like this ordeal is taking over his life. It's more like a chore to complete after he goes shopping and cuts the grass.

Just a thought.

Would there be any downside to it? They could release it at their leisure and still do a semi-schedule release every Tuesday like they had going for a while. But then they could also come out with some rapid fire brick shitting stuff.

What do you think? Would it take anything away? Would you prefer it? Discuss.

Personally I think this would be a great idea and would make the real-time format seem more realistic, but I doubt it'll happen. Troy and co have stuff to deal with in the real world too.

i would prefer they film it all beforehand and then when it's all done, then start showing them to us. one video a week, no more of this one month update crap (i stopped watching EMH because of it), it ruins the ARG feeling

plus then they could use the time it'd take them to shoot to find someone to play slendy instead of having a lifeless puppet that isn't scary at all, also could take the time they'd be using to shoot to edit the videos instead

Stop that. They aren't taking too long to continue doing you a favor by making this.

I haven't found the waits unrealistic yet. If I did, I got put in my place by some tweet from jay about having to change locations which reminded me that his character is a human with worries and actions.

It's all free entertainment.

I have a weird answer film three starting episodes and film the last one ahead so they can relax a bit more. I know they will not do this because they are not some weird film studemt making big movie. The main thing when should they announce we are producing season three. Could maybe late March when things are warming up be release for episode 53 course maybe we should make a poll on vlogs.

It might be nice as far as story progression, but I really like the current method. It would take stress off of Trosephtim, but still, I can't complain at all yet Smile

It's free and it's fantastic, so I'm more then content to wait. Remember Troy and Alex do have work and college inbetween all of this Smile If I was them, I'd have gone crazy by now Smile

The advantage of them not declaring how long their break is going to be is that they can take time to just have a breather and catch up on college and work, plan out season 3, and either film the whole thing or film enough of a backlog that it amounts to more or less the same, and they'd still probably be able to come back in less than seven months as promised.

It'd take stress off them, as mentioned, it'd help keep the last season fast-paced and tense, and it'd just plain look professional, which I assume is something they want seeing how they're film students and all.

I hope they don't. The griping around here is bad enough when we know they're producing as they go. Unless they fake BTS posts, we'd know the entries were finished, and knowing the next entry is sitting on a shelf somewhere would drive some fans crazy.

Regarding production during the break, it's probably better to keep your expectations low. It wouldn't be much of a break if they produced a big chunk of the entries during that time. If they did go that route, I'd imagine it'd be something more like a month-long break and two months of solid production. In order to keep the IG timeline, we'll still have to wait between uploads. I'd rather they keep combining the OOG production wait with the IG timeline, so we can spec between entries. I'm guessing we'll have a lot to discuss.

I take an alternate view, having an entry on a regular schedule while nice for entertainment, seems more staged and phony to me. Very little of note happens on a regular schedule in my life, hell I've been waiting all year for one major shoe to drop in my life.

Also consider that Jay has told us a couple of times that he changes locations frequently so it's likely that he's only posting when he's at a location he feels safe enough at. It's likely that Jay does not spend his time chilling into hotels and surfing LOLCat sites, but more likely plans where he's going to go, maybe try and find some temp work, flee at the first sign of craziness and try to come up with an answer to what's going on that he can accept.

The same thing could be said for going through the footage, especially since seeing The Operator on camera has proven dangerous in the past. Add to that the whammies Jay's received finding out unpleasant truths from someone he considered a close friend, it might take Jay some time to work up the courage to find out what happened next. After all this season alone, Jay's discovered that he may have dragged an innocent girl into this mess, his best friend is a murderer, possibly working with or for a scary thing Jay's narrowly avoided and likely threw his film cast under the bus to save his own skin as well as the fights between Jay and Alex.

This right here.

Far as I'm concerned Troy should just keep doing things the way he does them. That's what got all of us hooked, after all. Haven't seen an entry yet and thought "That wasn't worth the wait."

For one thing they do have someone playing Enderman. For another thing, the more active Operator gets the less scary he is.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I'm entitled to anything. I have crazy respect for them and I know I would never be able to pull it all off.

I'm just saying it would take the stress off them. Make it easier for them. I'm in college and know how nuts things can get at times, but that is what I'd try to avoid by filming ahead of time.

Good point. Every now and then Jay DOES throw in a tweet about moving. I failed to really take this into consideration. It does add to the realism, but I still think that pre-taping a season would still work out better.

Also I wouldn't say keep a schedule like every Tuesday at 9pm. That'd be kind of dumb. This ain't TV. But keep a relaxed schedule just to keep fans into it. Planning out the dates of each entry for a taped season would be another thing too that may better the series.

I don't mind the gaps between entries: it seems realistic that Jay, spending a lot of his time hotel hopping, isn't always going to have the time or energy to edit entries, plus it's got to be hard to always find a steady internet connection for his laptop. The only issue I had with a gap between entries was when it took him a week to decide to search for the tape for Entry 51: IMO, it would have made more sense if he just said on twitter he found it straight away the week before, but only got the chance to upload the entry that day. He must be the least curious person in the world if he didn't even attempt to look for the tape for an entire week...

The main risk of shooting Season 3 in advance, is if, while the entries are being uploaded, Troseph need to take the story in a different direction for whatever reason. If they did, they'd have to re-shoot and there might be issues with continuity and such that they'd have to resolve (as there were between Entry 38 and Entry 51).

I don't know to what extent the whole story arc has been planned out, and it's possible that fan reactions and interactions on twitter shape where they take the series. I'm also pretty sure Troy at least checks out fan discussions on the entries on occasion.*

All in all, they lead busy lives, so it's probably easier for them to plan and shoot one entry at a time than to wear themselves out doing an entire series in one go.

*Sidenote: Personally I have a theory that they brought Brian back for entry 51 because the fans were so insistent on knowing what happened to him. He was really just a throway character at the start - much like Seth and Sarah, but with all the theories on him being Hoody and/or TTA, they had to do something with him at some point or the fans would be disappointed.
