"The southeastern turn of the track ran between two shrines which may have predated the Circus' formal development. One, located at the outer perimeter, was dedicated to the valley's eponymous goddess Murcia, an obscure deity associated with a sacred spring, the stream that divided the valley, and the lesser peak of the Aventine Hill."

Well shit. I'd say there's *SOME* connection. Just working on how to fit it all together.

"The Circus Maximus was sited on the level ground of the Vallis Murcia (Valley of Murcia)"

ie Valley, not hill.

The reference to Elephants and Clowns led me to Circus

From http://ancient-rome.tripod.com/circusmax/circus_max.htm

Quote:
The last games were held in 549 by Totilla the Goth who captured Rome and reduced its population to 500. After 549 the Circus Maximus was never used again.

Since I haven't seen it posted yet, "Ratha" at the beginning of the message is not a typo. A ratha is a spoked-wheel chariot. So, we're definitely talking about the chariot here. It would make sense that we're looking for the key to a chariot, since modern day chariots require keys to be of use... Wink

This may be extending a branch in the wrong direction, but the Chariot tarot card has a number of interesting links with the themes at play here. Struggle for control of internal and external forces, identity and so on. There are also direct links to the "twin" cards of the lovers and the devil.

Also notice the black and white figures...

I don't think this one needs pulling apart too much, all he's asked for is the location of the key, and an explanation of the links in the letter to the treasure.
I reckon most of what you need is here already, though any extra snippits might help ( the reference to candle-light springs to mind, though I have no idea why)

Edit: New on FB

One entry received for the second guardianship so far... and quite impressive too... anyone else entering the race?

At work, so I won't be able to do much, but I was just wondering; who entered so far? And what was your answer?

I was the one who entered. Can't say my answers, though, I had an OOG chat with our PM where he told me what I got and what I missed (after I had sent in my entry, of course), so it wouldn't be fair for me to say anything.

That changes things. I didn't think he would tell what was wrong in it yet. So, yeah, keep that confidential. I might go ahead and submit my try in that case.

Yes, I know, ANOTHER double post. I'm just keeping things split up. New email from Vlad. Second guardian has been appointed.

Quote:
Dear friend of Intueor
We write to you on this, the 30th October 2011 to announce that the second guardianship has been assigned.

As tradition states, this person will remain secret until the time of need - called upon by he or she who unites all of the thirteen together.

The third task for guardianship will be offered soon.

Intueor thanks you.

VS 3.1

The answers are listed below in spoiler tags.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

The Answers for those that pursued the guardianship of the second treasure...

Before Intueor recovered the key, it was buried at the Circus Maximus.

The following chariot references are found in the Guardian's log:

1 ) St. Odran's day (February 18th - Odhran's day was the day the task was set...) - St. Odran drove St. Patrick's chariot.
2 ) The "typo" of ratha - a Ratha is a spoked-wheeled chariot
3 ) "Rota" - The Latin word for the wheel.
4 ) horses "with their burdens" - a reference to a horse pulling a chariot
5 ) horses "saddled" with their burdens - a reference to equestrian equipment.
6 ) 5.49 - The last games of the Circus Maximus were held in the year 549.
7 ) "Murcia Hills" - The Circus Maximus was sited on the level ground of the Vallis Murcia (Valley of Murcia). The Guardian did not specifically remember them being called Hills, but something like hills (i.e. valleys)
8 ) My lazy friend - Murcia was hailed by some as a Goddess of laziness and sloth.
9 ) "Not by candlelight...quickly yet simply." - This references specifically the ability of The Chariot of Morgan the Wealthy to take a man quickly to anywhere he wishes to be.
10 ) The many clowns was reference to a clown car - a trick of the circus where clowns all appear from a hidden door under the car.
11 ) The inclusion of clowns is a reference to the circus.
12 ) The inclusion of elephants is a reference to the circus.
13 ) "Start your engines" - a reference to automobile racing, the modern equivalent of chariot racing
14 ) Key - a key is necessary to start a car, the "modern chariot"
15 ) Elephants - Indian chariots were designed to combine the benefits of a chariot and a war elephant.
16 ) Elephants - Some ceremonial chariots were elephant-drawn.
17 ) "The rota I was on defined my duration of stay" - In Roman-style game chariots, the driver had to balance on the axel. The strength of the axel and the wheels (rota) determined how long the warrior could fight. This is why many chariot games ended with a single broken wheel.
18 ) There were seven blocks of text - The seventh major arcana card is the Chariot card.

We include these answers so you can see how this task was composed and the fact that, with only one error and two missing, the second guardian has proved their worth.

The third task will be with you soon...

Intueor thanks you.

Glad to see most of my ideas were on par with the answers. I worked out a couple more after my initial run down, but I didn't end up sending it. Noticed the email as a draft right after getting your two newest. So, any idea when we'll be receiving task three?

no.
Each treasure can be attempted without previous knowledge of the others.

I was merely saying that if I sit too long with nothing on my plate, my attention will wander. But, I'll make sure to pass that tidbit along my usual channels.

I'd say yes! Solved that one a lot faster and accurately than the others bits previous, that's for sure.

Can you find each of their character names [if a role is played, name of character please NOT the 'actor' eg 'Lassie' and not 'Pal']

First to provide all 13 names will be appointed the next guardian.
Intueor challenges you...

Heads up : Tineye has proven useless for me. Googling 'famous horses' is a failure so far.

I've gotten one two three so far, via some creative googling. Also, I've numbered the image, making it easier to work with. There's only 12 pictures of horses in individual pictures. There is one large icon of a horse over all of them, which I would think is a logo for something. Hard to make out detail though.

http://i42.tinypic.com/2uivia0.png

3, 5, 6 are the ones I've discovered.
