ShadedSpriter and I are in Angora right now trying to crack the thing. Our original passwords don't seem to be working right now. We've tried translating the Latin back into Rot13 and Rot47, and those aren't working either. Will update if/when we get it.

Probably worth stating for those who don't download the rar, the file name is "deleteuponviewingshecannevergoback.wmv" So I think it's a video, and will tell us something about how she got to where she is. It probably contains something that would jog Andrea's memory if she saw it.

Anyone else who speaks Latin, we would greatly appreciate trying out alternate translations of the phrase "I am the captain of my soul" that fit into the pattern (10 characters)/(3 characters)/(6 characters)/(4 characters).

The things I personally have tried so far: I have tried both "praefectus/sum/animae/meae" and "gubernator/sum/animae/meae," with the first letter capitalized, none of the letters capitalized, and all the letters capitalized, with slashes between each word, spaces between each word, and no separators between the words. I've tried both phrases with slashes and the first letters either capitalized or not, translated into Rot13 and Rot47. Until we can get potential other translations, I will try the Rot13 and Rot47 versions of both phrases in all caps, and with all three capitalization options for spaces as separators and no separators, just in case. I don't know what ShadedSpriter has tried, but he says he's not getting it either.

EDIT: yeah, okay, I tried those other combinations I mentioned. They didn't work either.

For the sake of completeness, I also tried the stated variations to the English version of the phrase. That also didn't work.

Here is the error message I am getting: CRC failed in the encrypted file [name of file]. Corrupt file or wrong password.

Is it possible the file is simply corrupted, and none of our passwords will work? In which case, Andrea's screwed.

It's always possible that the file is corrupted but that seems incredibly unlikely. I believe that's just the standard error that winrar pitches when it can't open a file (due to a wrong password, for example)

I've been trying over here with other variations on praefectae other similar meaning latin words but no luck.... I'm not exactly an expert in latin or codecracking but I figured I'd give it a try. I'm off to bed to collapse now, I'll get back at it tomorrow evening if we haven't cracked it by then...

So this is some random forum where somebody used our codeword as a translation - so I now trying to use "I am the captain of my soul" as PW - AND IT WORKS, but quits the program near the end. This is usually an indicator that parts of the PW are right but something is wrong. Trying some various versions now.

OK, so far I tried:

i am the captain of souls
Iamthecaptainofmysoul
I am the captain of my soul

none worked all the way through, but I was able, using rar expander, to see that the file includes a wmv-file, whose title I don't want to disclose yet as for spoilers. I couldn't save/watch/open the file anyhow, as it was deleted as soon as unrar told me that the PW is (slightly) "wrong".

OK, none worked and I have to give up (TIME) - still, I think an alteration of the above me just be it.

Seeing as the word "Memory" is on the thumbdrive, does anyone know what the latin word for that is/? mayeb thats a clue.
(btw taking the SD card to my friend on my way into work, we'll find out soon if it works)

Google Translate popped out "memoriae." It also offered "memoria," "retinentia," "recordatio," and "animus."

Okay, Tomorrow (or maybe today, depending on how you count the calendar) is DAY TEN. Worst case scenerio, Andrea has run out of water.

Can we skip the file cracking and actually just head to the address we received? Obviously it's not the cemetery, and we're possibly out of time.

MM, what's the possibility of getting out there tonight, or maybe even tomorrow morning? Also, do you have a twitter or facebook we could watch for any real time updates?
