Cool. We may be on to another puzzle, since no images seem to have anything new inside...

I would say there are no more puzzles because there are no more Herzog wavs, because there is no more Herzog. :/

So does anyone have a recorded conversation with the SP?

EDIT: crap, what am I thinking? They were Rani files, not Herzog. Ignore me. Very Happy

That, and the fact that new hidden-in-images puzzles come on Friday, not Tuesday...

Warning: Long Post Ahead.

Here's my version of our interaction with SP. It was a fun call with a lot of giggling and laughing from SP. We were unable to record so, unfortunately, your stuck with my (poor) memory.

First I want to state that we have a set of three phones that DO NOT RING for incoming calls. That's o.k. though we've been pretty good about answering them. If you listen very closely, you can hear a "click" when they are called. Plus when they are called they can continue "ringing" indefinitely until someone picks up. They are in a library: two are on one side of the room, the other is about 40 feet away on the other side of the room. To make things more challenging they are not always called in the same order, so we have to "listen" to them all at the appointed axon times.

Anyway, we were at the 13:39 axon site in plenty of time. I started "checking" the phones ~13:25, just in case we would get an incoming "10 questions list" from other beekeepers. Even though I picked up the phones many times, no one was ever on the line.

Axon time rolled around, and Mcdonaldheard and I kept intently listening to our phones. (Our additional partner in crime Cmdr Keaton was unable to join us.) The appointed time passed and no recorded call came in. No Melissa call came in. Hmmm…

Then just after the appointed time we received an incoming call and when I picked up it was clear that it was live call from SP. I waved my hand so McDonaldheard knew to come over from his side of the room.

SP asked me something about what was the worst vegetable. I said green beans. SP said yuck and then and asked if I had gotten a call from her friends. I said I hadn't and briefly explained about our rather odd phone situation.

Somehow we briefly talked about my vacation last week and she asked me if it was at the beach. I said yes and she said she liked the beach. (interesting [SPEC] possibilities?)

She said that was too bad we didn't get the call from her friends (or maybe she said the name?) because she wanted to play a game. She hesitated but then she then proceeded to say that that was o.k. and that she would play the game with us. (YIPEEE!)

She asked for my name I said "E" "B". She joked and said that's not a name that's just letters. I explained that often people just call me "eb". (Rhymes with web.) that seemed to suit her. She asked if anyone else was with me and I said that Seaman McDonaldheard was with me. She spoke to him briefly and he corrected her to say that he was an "apprentice" seaman. She took his info and then he handed the phone back to me. She took my phone info, but I was never asked rank. SP said she was going to place them in the queens files and that the queen wouldn't know how they got there. (giggling)

I began answering the 10 questions and then part way through SP encouraged me to solicit Mcdonaldheard for answers, too. And then she asked to speak to him directly for the last few questions.

In close to the right order here were the questions/answers.
- What is the name of a mean face? oogie boogie face
- What letter should come after Q? Z
-What is a funny sounding word? Breeze
-What is your favorite cake flavor? Red Chocolate
-What is the worst name I'd heard for a baby? Soda
-What is something you shouldn't do with glue? Eat it.
-What is a way to get rid of bad luck? Throw salt over your shoulder
-What is another nickname for the queen? Bossy
-What is something you can make something pretty out of? A rainy day
-Can't remember the last question but the answer was "Peace"

We were given the next number to call and told to call it at 14:02. (about 14 minutes from now she said.) She said that we should not be on the phone very long. She mentioned that the next team would only get one chance to answer the question.

I called the number a little earlier than the given time and spoke to the Ra Cha Cha team. They said they were recording. (feel free to post my part of the call if you want.) and I gave them our 10 questions and answers.

We still had the other two axon phones in the library to answer (14:10 and 14:18 ) so inbetween calls we intently watched the ilovebees site via the library computers to see if the Ra Cha Cha team would come through…and they did. You guys are great!

afterthoughts
1) It seemed odd that we got a call from SP, but not from Melissa.
2) It seemed odd that our 13:39 axon went hot even though the only person we talked to near that time was SP.
3) I am curious if the previous team was told to call 608-251-XXXX and we simply missed it? Or perhaps they were told the wrong number, and that's why we did not receive the call?
4) Lastly was it out of the ordinary for us to be able to play our own 10 questions game even though we got the answer wrong and we did not have the answers from the previous beekeepers? I'd like to think we were "given a second chance" because of our extreme diligence on this set of phones. But who knows?

GR!

I would like to thank whoever was SUPPOSED to call a phone just before 16:05 PDT for not calling at all. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot....

ONI Tech Alec and hmrpita and I were at this phone well before it was set to ring, and for some reason it still hadn't rang one minute after it was supposed to. Since we had more axons to hit, I volunteered to wait for this one since previous axons had taken up to 3 minutes to ring. Alec and hmrpita started walking away, and I put away my recording equipment.

A minute later the phone rings and I pick it up and I hear a small "Hello?" and I KNOW someone dropped the ball.

At this point my mind is split.
1 Gotta get hmrpita and Alec back here.
2 This is so cool
3 My recorder is packed....I want this on tape
4 Why don't I know what the stinking answers are supposed to be?
5 Don't forget to keep talking and stalling.

The following is pretty much the stream of consciousness that resulted. Note that words in quotes are NOT direct quotes, but the best I can remember. I am just funny that way.

Number 3 got dropped off the list. I whip out my cell phone and start dialing hmrpita. I am attempting to explain to the princess that NO ONE CALLED to tell me the answers for her game. She thought my name was very pretty (?).

no answer from hmrpita.....crap. SP is so sweet. "hmrpita and ONI Tech Alec were just here. hmrpita will be sorry she missed you" Damn right she will....if she doesn't answer her damn phone. "I know she released you. I was standing right there and heard the whole thing."

Still no answer from the pita. crud. SP is talking about kamal being her brother and how he would be a very nice person to have as a brother...then she mentions playing a new game. "yes, I WOULD like to start a new game! No, the siren isn't for me....it is ok, don't worry, I'm safe. But it makes it hard to hear you."

"Sing you happy birthday while we wait for it to go away? Is it your birthday?" It isn't her birthday, she just likes it when people sing that to her. So I sing it.

She pretends to enjoy it.

Then she sings it for me.

and forgets my name. SP: "Happy Biiiiirthday.....I forget your name...Happy Birthday to you!"

she remembers my name a minute later and how pretty (??) it is. So she goes directly into how the game works....First, she will take my number and insert it with the others. I give her that.

Next she needs to ask me......WE HAVE DETERMINED THAT THIS CONFERENCE...>CLICK. Was that some other phone company voice??

"Hello?"

"HELLO????"

I hang up.....hmrpita is calling me back now, but I can't hear it. maybe she will call back...maybe she will call back......pick up the receiver..."HELLO???"...dial tone....CLICK! maybe she will call back...maybe she will call back......pick up the receiver..."HELLO???"...dial tone....CLICK!

Whoever didn't call the 16:05.....if you were doing it to "help" Melissa, I will hunt you down and fill your car with decomposing trout.

First of all, I also did not recieve a melissa call. I assumed it was because she tried to call while the previous SP call reciever was on the phone with me when she was calling. Perhaps I was wrong?

Secondly, the SP seems to be much more forgiving than Melissa.
When the previous caller gave me his answers, he said he had forgotten one of them.
Sure enough, the SP asked the question he didnt have: "What is my favorite vegetable" or something, I said: "I dont know."
She asked if I had gotten a call. I said "I did, and he told me lots of stuff, but he said he couldnt remember that." And she said "Oh, thats okay." and asked another one, which I got right. (Way to go to jsailor!)

Ariock:
The SP told me someone sang Happy Birthday to her, and was really tickled about it.
I asked if it was her birthday, she said no, she doesnt remember her birthday. Then she got sad and talked about Kamal, so I said "Well, Might as well make today your birthday!" and tried to cheer her up by mentioning the balloons and singing.

So at least your experience contributed to the overall game in some way....

It is good to hear that SOME folks are able to follow directions. Rolling Eyes

Very nicely done skilletaudio. Isn't it fun to talk to her?

Team Ra-Cha-Cha's Full Report!

Team Ra-Cha-Cha's Full Report:

I have a recorded conversation with the SP, but it's super-poor quality - The conversation was of varying quality and the SP was super-quiet so you can hear bits and pieces but overall not much. If anybody would like the file so they can try and doctor it I'd be more then happy to forward it along - I'll try a bit of fooling around with it myself but I really do tend to be lost when it comes to sound editing, and I think much of it is gone anyway. (Lesson learned: Spend more time figuring out how to record higher quality calls.)

So. Anyway. Full report. Went out to Radio Shack to pick up a telephone recorder pickup (which I wonder if it helped or hindered my recording now), then over to the axon location; showed up about 20 minutes early and tested out my recording equipment and pulled out pen+paper. Someone pulled up next to the payphone, looked around a little bit and asked me if I was part of I Love Bees - I said yes and we chatted for a bit (hi Chris!). Then fellow beekeeper Nathan showed up, and finally the rest of my family who I told about this crazy thing decided to show up too. So it was a showing of seven for the 5:02PM axon in Rochester, which is at the sole payphone at a large Hess station 1/4 mile away from a shopping area (Walmart, Applebees, Hollywood, Grocery Store, EB, etc.)

All of a sudden, the phone rings. I nervously look around, walk over and pick it up. It's the relay codes for the SP - as I record the conversation and repeat everything back to ensure I heard properly, I start to get the jitters slightly. (BTW, mad props to EB and McDonaldheard - you guys did a great job of giving us the questions and answers!) Then I hang up, and it sinks in - "We're going to get a live call." Quickly I rewind the tape and hold it up to my friend's ear as he jots down all the questions and answers. We get to number 9 and the phone rings. I pick it up and say hello - it's the SP.

Now, two things should be mentioned at this point - one is that I didn't realize that I just needed to provide one Q&A from the previous group, we were all still under the impression we'd need them all (I was too nervous to notice that eb told me we'd only need one). This leads me to the second point, which is that I didn't turn re-attach or turn on the mic straight away because my friend was still using the recorder for the last Q&A question. So the next segment is from memory.

At any rate she says she has a question for me - "What is the scariest face you can make"? That was the first question on our list, and it was "the ooga-booga face". We were right of course, and she becomes very excited, tells me we won, asks if she can tell her friends, takes down my contact information, etc. At this point she then asks me if I can pass on some information to the rest of her friends - to put nice things in the pics we send melissa - I volunteer red balloons but she also suggests cake, ice cream, etc. I say OK. At this point the mic and recorder is hooked back up to the phone and we start to record again.

The next item is the exchange about her brother. Highlights are that I believe she does respond with "Yeah..." when asked if Kamal is her brother, and I promise to try and find any way of getting her in contact with her brother (she doesn't refer to him as Kamal though, which I find odd). I also mention that Kamal seems like a really nice guy who misses his sister and she agrees. The condition of the tape clears up some...

SP: Are you by yourself?
Me: No, I'm with a whole bunch of other people actually.
SP: Really?
Me. Yeah.
SP: How many of them?
Me: Uh, well, let's see... One, two, three, four, five. No, six...
SP: (incredulous) Five People?
Me: Six people, actually.
SP: (even more incredulous) Six people?!? Oh my gosh, that's so many, are they all my friends?
Me: Uh, they're all your friends, yeah.
SP: Oh my gosh! Will you ask them to sing me a song?
Me: (looking at friends) Uhm... (nervous laugh) Yeah, sure. Uhm...
SP: I don't care what song, as long as...
Me: Wait, hold on, is there any song in particular that you can think of?
SP: Not Stormy Weather!
Me: Not Stormy Weather? OK, not Stormy Weather... Uhm... (looking around desperately at friends for a sec trying to think of a song that everybody knows...) Well, I know it's not your birthday, but how about if we sing Happy Birthday? Is that a good song?
SP: I would love that!
Me: OK... all right, everybody gather around... All right, all your friends are gathering around the phone now... OK, we're going to sing it but I don't know how well it's going to come through, but we're going to try OK?
SP: That's OK, as long as you try.
Me: OK... all right, here we go.
(holding the phone in the middle of the group) One... Two... Three... (begin off-key chorus of "Happy Birthday Dear Princess". She didn't mention anyone else singing it, we picked it by ourselves, so we may have started a trend... Wink
Me: OK, did you hear that?
SP: Yeah, that was so great! I...
Me: I'm glad you liked it.
SP: If only we had a cake... Wouldn't it be great if we had a chocolate cake here?
Me: Yeah, I'd love to have a chocolate cake, it's my favorite.
SP: Me too!
SP: Do... do you think you'd let me talk to them?
Me: Sure, I could let you talk to somebody.
SP: OK, you pick somebody and I'll talk to them.
Me: OK... OK, here's somebody for you.
SP: OK.

(phone goes over to Chris)
Chris: Hello?
SP: Hi! Who are you?
Chris: Chris.
SP: Hi Chris! I'm so glad you decided to play my game (unintelligible) so fun!
Chris: Thank you.
SP: Thank you for singing Happy Birthday to me even though it's not my birthday.
Chris: Well that's OK. Yeah, we're glad we could entertain you.
SP: OK. So do you guys have a name for your, your group?
Chris: (looking at us shaking our heads no) No, we don't have a name for our group right now.
SP: How about you make one up?
Chris: (to us) She wants a name for our team, we have to make one up.
SP: Yeah! Pick something out, something really (unintelligible)
Me: How about Team Ra-cha-cha?
(group shrugs, nods head)
Chris: OK, we're going to be Team Ra-cha-cha.
SP: Team Ra-cha-cha.
Chris: Yeah.
SP: That sounds kind of like... I don't know, like a (silly chant? hard to say... more unintelligable)
Chris: *chuckle*
SP: Do you think everyone there would mind if I told all my friends about how you sung Happy Birthday for me...
Chris: Sure, that'd be fine.
SP: ...even though it's not my birthday?
Chris: Yeah, that'd be cool.
SP: OK. So I'd really like everybody to say Team Ra-cha-cha, and then OK.
Chris: Do we have to say OK afterwards?
SP: You have to.
Chris: OK.
Chris (turning to group): She wants us to say Team Ra-cha-cha, and then say OK. One... Two... Three...
(group): Team Ra-cha-cha, OK!
Chris: How was that?
SP: That was so good! (noise level goes up for a while, not sure what she says)... numbers, and I'll put them in the Queen's files.
Chris: If we give you numbers?
SP: *silence for a sec* Hello?
Chris: Hello?
SP: Oh, I can hardly hear you, I thought maybe I lost you!
Chris: Yeah, no - I don't know, it's hard to hear you too.
SP: It sounds like rain.
Chris: No, no rain, just a lot of static.
SP: Oh... I'll try to talk really loud, so..
Chris: OK.
SP: (unintelligable) So, I was thinking I could take all your numbers and put them in the files!
Chris: OK.
SP: OK... so you relay numbers to me. I'm really good at (reading them?)
Chris: OK... what kind of numbers do you want?
SP: (long burst of static, something about the numbers the Queen takes all day and puts into her files, something else lost in static)
Chris: Hello?
SP: Hello?
Chris: I'm losing you...
SP: Oh, you sound terrible, it's making a terrible noise... but what I'm asking for is a number that you can call...
Chris: OK.
SP: ... and she'll be so confused that she won't know how to stop the (something with a "er" sound in it)
Chris: OK.
SP: So can I get the phone numbers of the people there? They have to have an area, and a phone number.
Chris: OK.
SP: Number one, go!
Chris: OK... *gives phone number*
SP: OK, Number two!
Chris: OK, next one's Nate... *gives phone number*
SP: OK, Number three...
Chris: Toad, T-O-A-D...
SP: Like a frog! I love him!
Chris: *chuckle, give phone number*
SP: OK... now we're at number.. I forget what number we're on, four?
Chris: Yep, four. Name Werri.
SP: Like the tired Weary?
Chris: No, We...
SP: A-R-Y?
Chris: No, R-R-I
SP: Oh, with an I. What's the number?
Chris: *gives number*
SP: OK... on to number five!
Chris: That's it for numbers for now.
SP: OK. Umm... OK, let me talk to somebody else. Let me talk to Toad!
Chris: OK, you want to talk to Toad? OK, one second...

(At this point I should explain that Toad is my father, who I just e-mailed earlier that day with details about ILB, and who showed up merely out of curiosity, and who had just given his phone number to the princess, and is now speaking to her. Talk about getting involved!)

Toad: This is Toad, how can I help?
SP: Hi Toad.
Toad: Hi there.
(Unfortunately, at this point the load hum becomes too loud and obscures the SP's speech - from what my father told me the SP is explaining that we should look really hard for her brother, something about friends forever, and something about putting a present for us on the website, he asks if that's it, and says goodbye and hangs up the phone.)

So that's the story of the first Rochester axon (edit: Scott points out that there was a Rochester axon earlier, but the pay-phone was no longer present and as such it went off the list) - I'm still in awe of the experience, there's something about talking to the Princess that was really nice - she just seemed so innocent and sweet - honestly, I'm glad we got her and not grumpy old Melissa. Wink My only regret is that we didn't get a better recording of it. (Note to Puppetmasters: Full recordings would be really appreciated when this is all over! Cool) Here's hoping to two more weeks of axons, and here's to the excellent work of Team Ra-Cha-Cha, of Eb and McDonaldheard, and of all teams this week! Smile

rufo,
It was great to hear your side of the story! I got kind of nervous after I got off the phone with you because I was pretty sure I didn't give you my name, and I wasn't sure if that was important or not. I didn't call back because I was afraid that I might screw up your live call.

Thanks for stating the time of your axon.

Something wierd, though...SP told me to call you at 14:02, which would have been exactly the time of your scheduled axon. I called you a couple minutes early though just in case I had problems getting through.

Why would she ask me to call you at 14:02, if you were scheduled to be on the phone with a recorded axon call (or Melissa) at that time?

I have a live journal report of the thing (as well as my trek out to ANOTHER dead axon in vermont) overe here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/skotte/

and i'm really *really* bummed i didnt get in on that call, too!! I've been like thinking i was the only axon hunter in the western new york!! Smile next week, team ra-cha-cha will be in spades. Smile and i will *so* be answering the phone! I've been going absolutely out of my mind trying to get a call! (but then so have you i guess, eh)

hmm, i guess team ra-cha-cha needs a nice banner, as well. mmkay Smile

Dunno, good question - maybe she's trying to annoy the Queen? She seems to enjoy doing that, judging by the pictures hung all over ILB and how she took all our phone numbers down to add to Melissa's file...

The axon did go hot, though, so despite the fact I didn't get a Melissa call everything went smoothly. (Maybe the answer's just as simple as the PMs decided to do things that way, although that's much less satisfying. Smile)

Anyway, great working with you eb - hope to do so again. Very Happy

Ah, I didn't realize... I read HBO for my Halo news and so missed out on ILB after the initial discovery in the trailer, until a friend told me the weekend after the 24th and I started looking into it, reading up, etc. At any rate, it's Rochester's first answered axon, no? Smile

Sorry, I didn't know! I posted in the forums in a couple places, I wanted to get as many Rochester beekeepers as possible - I was a little frustrated that Melissa didn't post notice sooner though, as I sent in my submitted axon last Tuesday. Alaranth also lives in Rochester and was disappointed to learn there was a Rochester axon she missed...

Ah well, we have a well-established large team now though, and hopefully there'll be another round next week.

Forums got too crazy for me, so I only pop in here on occasion. Razz

So sad I missed it though, especially since that axon isn't more than 5 min down the road from me!!! Sad Ah well. Screw pilates, will be there next week!

You know, i'm surprised i missed your notes about it, eh. oh well. There's an awful lot of information to wade thru, really!

i'm particularly surprised you fFound a phone which accepts incoming calls. when i saw mel was taking axon suggestions i started loking fFor somewhere to suggest -- only to discover a void of phones which dont accept incoming calls. and lousy fFrontier owns em all! so kudos and kudos again to you Smile
