And he hangs up, and the phone rings the second he hangs it up. Amazing.

And so that's the story of me attempting to bribe an old man for a phone. Del's done with the stories.

Oh, what a sweet old man.

Wait, wait, one more story.

Someone mentioned "Try explaining this to your mom." To that I say that my mom watches the website for my axon hits when she works (she's a teacher with a computer in her room). She enjoys watching me work, seeing I'm 4 hours away from her and she really misses me. So when the pictures were online and I got my crew membership, I think she ran the recruits .wav over and over again and told everyone she works with, "That's my son on there!".

Ok, now I'm really done... for now.

Well - I was taking the campus bus from my apartment to my campus (duh) and I was listening to the new Halo 2 theme

( http://halo2.nilerogers.com/HaloTheme/HaloThemeMjoinerMix.mp3 ) (Not leaked, its from the official site of the guy involved in it's creation)

Anyway - I was listening to the theme and the guy behind me tapped on my shoulder and so I turned around and he asked me "Wow, what song is that - it sounds like the Halo theme, but it's all.... pimped out.." So naturally I told him about the site and everything, then he asked me:

"Man, this is going to sound stupid - have you ever heard of ILoveBees.com?"

Well, naturally I told him yes and he was like "Wow, that's so cool - what do you think is gonna happen???"

Etc etc, so we were discussing AI's, Jersey, Durga and the crew, crashed space ships and alien bombs.. well, normally that would be cool - except the fact that the bus driver and the rest of the people were staring at us like we were insane...

Not cool to have 40 other people eavesdropping in on you then staring at you because you sound like a crackpot

So then when I was getting off the bus I yelled back to the guy "Cya when Melissa puts all these people in comas and the Covenent Bomb in New Mombassa goes off!!!"

Well, once again, fine and dandy until I got back my test a couple days later - apparently my teacher was on the bus

And instead of a grade he said "Why bother studying when the aliens are about to blow us up."

So I had to go talk to him about talking about war and bombs in public before he'd put my mark into the system

Evil or Very Mad

Yep, very different reactions from different people.

Congratulations! Did you know when you made that particular phone call you were going to talk to one of the live actors? Glad you're having a good time. Even parts of the "average guy explanation" were over my head, but I think I get the gist of the game. So fun to have it culminate on your birthday. Also interesting to have the names of both your sisters in the mix. [Margaret and Melissa]

In-laws just gave me strange looks and rolled their eyes.

Co-workers think I'm nuts but have even helped answer my phone for me one Tues when I was out of the office.

People at the axons give us strange looks, but we've gotten both the Pizza Hut staff and the Doubletree Hotel staff helping us out now, so they must not consider us too dangerously crazy. Wink

Most friends are either too busy but supportive, or part of the Boise Squad.

Wife swings from silently supportive (meaning she just leaves me alone), to the hour long fight last night about how I'm staying up too late and wasting my time with a stupid game. Normally she's better, but she's in the first tri-mester of kid #3 and while she doesn't normally get sick during pregnancy just really tired, I do get the equivalent joy of a 9 month long PMS fest. Sad Good thing I really love my family. Very Happy

weephun.... I feel your pain. Before my daughter was born, I was sick constantly, but her mother got through the pregnancy like it was nothing. delivered the baby in under an hour with little pain, and I felt like I was not going to make it through. hehehehe. I am weak. Very Happy

daboking, wow, talk about sympathy pregnancy! Shocked

Yah, kid #1 was 21hrs, #2 was only 8. My wife makes up for the easy (for her) pregnancies with impossible deliveries. Sad

Warning: Mildly adult material

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Okay, yesterday (yes, the 19th), I'm all done hunting Axons, but my sister is still at the mall across town waiting for two more. My personal call is due in ten minutes. Awesome. It's never live, so I'll go take a bath. Well, the boyfriend decided to join me, and it gets a little interesting. Just then, my little sister (read 17 year old) calls me to tell me that a kid just walked out of a bathroom in front of the payphones singing "I love bees, I love bees..." over and over not a minute after she hung up on one call. Yeah. Thank you, PM's for giving my sister a reason to call me to tell me THAT. Razz

For those of you who shouldn't read the above: Basically, my little sister interrupted my bath to tell me that a little kid walked out of a bathroom in front of the payphones she was answering singing "I love bees, I love bees..." just after she hung up from answering an axon.

All I have to say is: Try explaining this to your mom. I don't care who she is, but just TRY. Though this is especially true of mothers who aren't particularly familiar with computers in general, much less the workings of video games, ARG's, RPG's, and the internet.

After the CNN thing, I had to quickly explain the whole game to my mother, who'd been taping the news feeds all night but was going to bed imminently when I called. I needed screenshots of the MSNBC feed so I had to do this really quick, oblique summary (and name-drop Wired :-/) to try and convince her. I get done, and her response is:

"Wait, what does this have to do with bees?"

So I just told her, "Mom, we had a sign, and we wanted to get it on TV."

"But what does the bee mean?"

"It was just non-partisan and large, okay?"

Amusingly, Ens. Annette's mom, who I guess works as a librarian and is good at that whole information-gathering thing, figured out the game within ten minutes and now requests constant updates on the "bees situation." Hooray for internet.

Exactly. 99% of everyone I've tried to explain it to - and believe me, I'm better at explaining it than anyone else in my crew - has that "oh, that's cool" response, followed by shifty eyes and a quick exit. That's why we only have four regular enhottenators. :-/

A digital librarian? Is that like a regular librarian, just with more internet? Or are you like one of those Google Answers guys who is really, really good at finding things?
