[META/SPEC/ 10/19 spoilers] Is this really over in 2 weeks?

I'm having a hard time imagining how this story is going to wrap itself up in two weeks. True, it's leading in to Halo 2, but we've got to wrap up Rani, Kamal, Sophie, Jan and Jersey's stories before we leave them behind. What's the point of each one going to be?

Rani's the only one left who can really do anything about Chawla Base and the Artifact. It's easy to believe that the Artifact will be important in Halo 2, so maybe we'll just see her make a couple more discoveries, possibly with the help of Jersey and Durga.

Jan's been on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster ride. It's nice that she's gotten revenge for her Dad... but what now? She's not connected to the other characters, and the only loose threads are Monster Ann and whatever Crystal Gate Fence & Security is. It's cool finding about the 1.0s and the 1.1s, but doesn't seem like this story is much connected with the rest.

Kamal and Sophie... are they going to end up together? And why does Kamal want to go to New Jersey? He probably wants to find out a lot more about his sister, so maybe he's going to try and hack into some Navy databases. Now that Jan's met Durga, I fully expect Kamal to meet his "new" sister.

Jersey needs to alert the Navy about Durga's rampancy. Who's he going to tell? The 1.0s? Rani? Someone at Chawla base?

And finally, what about Durga's "siblings" - Melissa and SP? Are we expected to get to the bottom of this time travel mess in two weeks? Put the rampant AI back together like humptydumpty? And why did she like bees in the first place? (if it was just because of her name.... well, meh!)

So many loose ends, so little time for a proper climax and a denoument.... maybe a big "THE END"-shaped glob of plasma will just drop on everyone's head to end this.

Any thoughts?

According to an interview with one of the PM's, this thing will end and will lead right into the beginning of Halo 2. i.e Hear the last set of wavs and then go play the game and stuff should just follow on.

As for how they're going to acheive this, I'm not sure. I agree Rani's section of story is the most promising for bringing a big ending. Fingers crossed...

Big problem is that I'll get the game nearly a day before the final wavs come out, due to timezones. On the plus side, I'll be playing Halo 2 before pretty much all of you suckers Razz

There are those who said this day would never come, what are they to say now?

I wonder how many of melissa's crew are bug halo fans...

I get scared that some of the final axons wont go hot because people are home playing halo 2...

As for how they'll tie it up? I have no idea.

If that was the Wired.com article, then that's not exactly clear. We have weephun saying the game will end then, but no direct quote from a PM as such.

That's the easy one to answer. Kamal is all wigged out because someone is ghosting him... and that someone, Jersey, lives in New Jersey. I'm guessing that Kamal's hax0r skillz has let him trace the ghosting, and he's going to confront the ghoster.

Which nicely fits in with my guess above.

How about Kamal? that'd tie up the threads nicely, in a gut-twisting moral-dilemma way that fits perfectly with what's gone on so far. Choose, Kamal: does your sister's mind persist, but insane? Or does the last scrap of your family remaining cease to exist?

-- Steve hopes he never has to make a similar choice.

Yah, I really think that the reporter took that idea from me. He didn't seem to have anything directly from the PMs related to the end of the story. I can't imagine how the ARG would manage to stay alive much after Halo2 comes out with the large amount of legwork required to get all the axons needed being lost to Halo2 playing time, but it could be possible.

Kamal seems likely as the one to tell about to Durga.... remember SP going on as perdita about how she could see her family when hmrpita led her home? Seems a bit of forshadowing to me that SP will also be reunited with family.

I really don't see how things can wrap itself up in the sound files either. I suppose Halo 2 could be what wraps it up.

Grimcat, that spec is pretty wild, although it would be really cool if somehow it was.

For Bungie to make up a game this awesome, they had to have been on something at some point. Maybe I should send them some pot brownies... *laughs*

Word. I've only followed since about a week before the timer hit zero & pre-ILB time seems very distant. Every other turn has ended in an intersection of additional story arcs. Have you tried to explain ILB to an outsider & not have any idea where to start? Exactly. It's hard to identify the begining, never mind the end. But given the care w/ which this experience has been crafted, if there is an end, I can only anticipate additional depth and endless speculation.

Some of this weeks axons had enough direct calls to crew that they never really needed someone to go out and get a payphone. Maybe they'll eventually make the payphones less and less necessary. They have to know that a lot of the people here are Halo fans and might put this on hold once the game is out. But then maybe the PMs are hoping everybody will be interested in how the story ends to keep them involved.

I am almost certain this ends on the 9th, unless they stop people from have to go out to payphones.

I'm not sure if the goal of this ARG is to give us a story to follow that leads into Halo 2, or if it's an attempt to get us to think about some of the themes underlying the story. One one hand, we have a game that features the ulitimate in military technology saving our home planet by defeating the nameless hordes bent on its destruction.
On the other hand, we have the culmination of a military program that relied on the kidnapping of young children, turning them into virtual machines for the advancement of military ops.
This ARG heavily concerns the fallout from the Spartan program, something that wasn't presented in the first Halo game, and I'd spec isn't going to be in the second one, either.
I don't think any of our characters are going to show up in the game, but our knowledge of their existence in the alternate reality allows us a greater investment in the Master Chief's actions. For those who aren't really interested in playing Halo 2, there's still the enjoyment of a uniquely crafted narrative and its themes of moral relativism.
I'd predict that Kamal finds the truth about his sister shortly and gets to meet Durga shortly before Jersey gets the navy to take her down. Jan and her 'family' help with the resistance against the Covenant, probably with Jan realizing that if she wants to protect her home, she's going to have to start being able to kill. Rani perhaps will be the key to some backstory behind the artifact that will expand on whatever explanation is provided in-game as to how the Covenant ultimately located Earth.
Oh, and my prediction for the last week's .wavs: At least one of them is going to end just like Herzog's, giving us the added goal of vengeance against the Covenant.
And there's my Wild, Wild Spec.
