The hospital is probably too far away. If the coordinates are based on a street address it will be the med school or maybe the bldg across the street; if the coordinates are for metro stop, then being halfway down the street is in the margin of error (given the other metro phones we have found). But the hospital is on the other side of the metro from the coordinates. Far less likely. Also a zillion more phones to cover. You don't WANT it to be at the hospital. Grab a friend and hover over any phones at the metro today; you can at least eliminate them. Or that might be right.

EDIT: HOLD THIS THOUGHT - UNCLEAR IF UNNEEDED AXONS ARE STILL RINGING THIS WEEK (EVEN THOUGH THEY DID CONTINUE RINGING IN PAST WEEKS)

I failed to mention that while we have no "must get" axons left (no sound clips dependent on us), there are a few axons that will keep ringing this week in addition to the GW axon. We got dumped on a LOT of calls yesterday, with Melissa failing to recognize our "Reach" response. So while no game advancement from these, it might be good practice.

For exact locations of these phone kiosks, see Chappy's page cited above.

8:31 PDT 14th&Const
8:45 PDT 12th&C East
8:51 PDT Wendy's (where I met Stephanie who does not post but who has been taking care of this - thanks!)
9:39 PDT Union Station (phones by car rental booths)
9:45 PDT Union Station (phones by Au Bon Pain-but not 100% positive phone works)
9:47 PDT Union Station (phones by Au Bon Pain-but not 100% positive phone works)
10:43 PDT Spout Run
12:22 PDT 13th&Jefferson (I think)
13:24 PDT 12th&CWest
17:33 PDT GW Georgetown Cinema

Hmm. I cannot confirm that GW was still on the list. I finally had time to check back to theblackforge page; there is no GW axon on the final page. The 17:33 is definitely Georgetown Cinema. (I edited previous post.)

For anyone who would want to try the Silver Spring axon again - I've decided not to make another attempt at finding it, but I'll post what I did find out.

As said, the GPS coordinates land you in the rear parking lot of an apartment building. I've been inside the building (with some effort and some helpful people who were there installing carpet), but couldn't find any payphones. I actually went into one of the offices and asked if there were any payphones, but he only offered me his own office desk phone. (I'm glad I remembered to keep my cell phone concealed while asking people about payphones so I didn't sound like an idiot.)

The closest spot to the coordinates is the aforementioned pool area, out behind the parking lot. You can walk downstairs to the gate which is -supposed- to be locked for the winter, but, for some mysterious reason, is not. (The chain was not only not engaged properly when I visited the first time, the padlock fell to the floor when I touched it. On my second visit, the padlock was gone and the chain was still disengaged.) There is a single payphone just beyond the gate, and I have confirmed that it rings and accepts incoming calls (301-588-9887).

The first time I was there, the axon had already been cancelled, so it was naturally wasted effort. The second time though, when I visited on a Tuesday, it didn't ring either. It's remotely possible I interfered with it by picking it up occasionally, and once calling it accidentally when I hit the phone's number instead of INCyr's on my phone, but I'm pretty sure that's not it, or that it's supposed to be it but the PMs got the number wrong.

I also did some checking at the shopping center that's across the street. The only payphones I found there were a pair that were not only too far away from the coordinates to possibly be the ones, they didn't accept incoming calls. (No ring, plus an interference tone goes off if you try calling them.) I didn't check within all the individual stores for payphones, but the shopkeepers I did ask only knew about that pair of phones outside.

So, yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about that particular Silver Spring one, unless it becomes one we absolutely need (doubtful).

Salutations

Greetings, all.

To those that havn't met me (namely anyone but Chappy, aliendial, and Cortana), I'm SecondRunner, and a good friend of Zombie. I was there at the theater at K & 31st on Tuesday and helped them answer some phones. Thanks to aliendial for the popcorn, by the way. Hope to see you all soon...

Hi there! Pathetic Newbie here who also tried to find the Silver Spring Axon. I found a slightly different phone, although I missed the pool one and that sounds a bit closer. On the other side of the back fence of the apartment building, about several hundred feet south, is an out-of-place tiny art deco strip mall accessable only through the entrance to the next apartment complex down. On the end closest to the apartment building is a gym with an interior pay phone on the wall. It was out of order; sign, line dead, recorded out of service message when I called it. 301 495 9829. one_two_four was unlocked without it, and now the axon was cancelled, but that's my story. Embarassed

number_12, that's certainly another possibility, if it's reasonably close to the coordinates. The coordinates -have- been off by quite a bit before. This is why I checked out the shopping center too.

Again, I'm not too concerned that we can't find it, and I'm not really willing to waste any more class/work time to try. I'll just stick to the Union Station runs from now on, and maybe check out a few others that show up out of the way (if they don't conflict with class/work).

Re: DC Axon Hunters Poker Night!

I'm in for Poker, INCyr. I'm also thinking we should have a listserve for the dc axon hunters. It's a heckuva lot easier than dealing with the forums thread.

Thoughts?

Listserv sounds useful; who can host it?

I could, not a problem. It just couldn't get too high traffic (no more than 20-30 msgs a day) before I'd have to move it...

If you're interested, please email tbridgeSPLATgmail.com to be added.

Preliminary List from recipe7

Here ya go.

Dinner at Union Station, except for those unlucky few who will have to cover the mall trio just a few minutes later (indeed will have to miss the Union Station bunch entirely, just to be safe).

Nothing new. Except no Manassas this time unless I missed it. GW is back at least for the moment.

Remember - the final list will have changes. Last week the final list appeared around midnight and then CHANGED AGAIN THAT MORNING! So check before you leave for your axons.

Likely changes - one Spout Run disappears; GW disappears; Georgetown Cinema moves around a little bit. Last changes last week - one of the 12th&C duo moved several hours; a large chunk of the afternoon moved by a few minutes. Although that may have served the purpose of getting us there early for certain phone calls.... Smile

edit - I did miss Manassas (not that we've been getting it): 9:10 PDT

[OT] Are any of the DC crew big "Farscape" fans? I burned an extra DVD of the "Peacekeeper Wars" movie that was broadcast last week. Let me know if you want it; first come first serve.

EDIT: Disk has been claimed

I'll skip Union Station and try for the Carousel, Smithsonian, Federal Center calls. It's impossible to get all the museum calls in the same trip, but I'll get what I can.
