Yeah, from looking at the squad list it doesn't look like there's an LA group. So if I get a live call, should I start a new squad? "Team Los Angeles"???

Sure. Even though it's a little late, it'd be nice to get some kind of organization going.

And just so you all know, if I somehow get a live call, I'm going with "Team Discovery Channel" Wink

Santa Barbara Axon

Hey, I'm just getting into this, and I found out that there is a phone at my school that is going to ring tomorrow at 11:29. If somebody can email or AIM me and let me know what I'm in for, that'd be great. I hate to be on the tail end of this thing, but it should be fun for a few weeks. Thanks!

I'll go with that too if I get a live call. Keeps us from being fragmented.

VV- How about Team Antisocial. Razz

The SM axon 34.00 blah blah blah, is on Main St., just in front of the SM library. There are two phones, but the one facing Main St. is the one that has rung the past couple of times I've been there. Love to join the enhottenating, but I'm stuck in meetings all day today. Sad

Re: Team Los Angeles

In the absence of input from anyone else, I went ahead and told Melissa last week (in e-mail) that I was part of LAVA Squad. She never asked what it meant, but it's an acronym for Los Angeles Valley Axons, which I figure is broad enough to cover both the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys. (Please call us LAVAS, not LAVAtories. Mr. Green )

Honorary team members so far include MrBabyMan, Skyfall, the42guy -- whom I ran into again yesterday at his brand-spankin'-new Pasadena axon -- bizarro, and tyeRYCCE. Let me know if I've missed anyone on the roster. I'm perfectly happy that LAVA Squad should be a subset of Team Los Angeles, or whatever team name is ultimately chosen.

----

Well, as long as I'm posting anyway: I never successfully enhottenated that Burbank AMC Theatre axon last week. However, it did ring yesterday at 17:23, so Melissa hasn't scotched it. That's the good news. The bad news is that, when I said "Reach" -- twice -- I got, "If you were my crew, you'd know the answer to that question. You weren't meant to hear any of this. You must purge the contents of your chatter immediately." (Or words to that effect.) I'll try again this evening, but I'm still afraid that I broke my favorite axon. Sad

And a very frustrating thing happened this morning at the 08:46 Burbank Airport Hilton axon, which I wasn't able to get to yesterday. What with the rain and two accidents, I made it there at exactly 8:46 a.m., the precise minute at which Melissa was to call. I parked illegally -- getting to be a habit, that -- and sprinted for the phone, arriving at approximately 8:46:25, which I knew would be good enough 'cos the phone would still be ringing.

Except that whoever used the phone last didn't hang it up properly, and it was off the hook, so Melissa just got a busy signal. Bang Head

Hello fellow LA Axon hunters.

I've been out of play for the past couple weeks (nearly a month), and I'm trying to catch up. I've gotten all the sound clips and trying to read through much of the forum, but is there anything I need to know? Also is there any work for a Hollywood based hunter?

That would be me. Almost forgot to post that the activation of the new Pasadena axon went off swimmingly. I was not surprised to see Shad0 already there, and we had a pleasant conversation while we waited.

Gotta ask, though, which of those above am I? If it's the42guy, then I've got to say both, cool! Very Happy (because I'm as much a sucker for Hitchicker's Guide references as anyone) and, why exactly? Question

I live in the valley near Ventura and Van Nuys. I haven't had time to answer a call in a while, but I check this board pretty much everyday at work. So if you ever need an extra guy, consider me a member of Team LAVA.

Lovely. So not only did I fail to remember that we had met before, but when I finally did remember I remembered wrong. Embarassed Please accept my abject apologies. (And to the42guy as well, whom I also met once at the Burbank AMC Theater axon -- and whose name I have also always assumed to be some sort of Hitchhiker's Guide reference, without ever actually asking him about it.) All of this could have been neatly circumvented if I had just politely asked your name when you said, "Hi, Shad0!" Embarassed Embarassed

So if I am finally recalling correctly, you would be the one who came running up from the parking lot across the street just as I was answering the axon one week, whereas the42guy was the fellow who showed up in time to answer it himself on a different occasion? Have I got it right now? At long last? Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

(Perhaps someone who is slightly more qualified ought to coordinate the LAVA Squad.)

Don't worry about it, dude. No offense taken at all. I've been to exactly two axon enhottenations, counting yesterday, and it's not as if you are expected to know everything. Heck, back when we first met, I didn't have a unfiction account anyways, so identifying me by my forum name would have been quite difficult. Very Happy

Or if, y'know, I had identified myself when I said "Hi, Shad0!" Embarassed That part of normal discourse kinda slipped my mind there.

And everyone should give Shad0 a lot of credit for remembering all he did. He was very distracted by the 13-week-old junior beekeeper I brought with me. It's completely understandable; she distracts everybody. Smile

Yep, that'd be me.

Nonsense, nonsense says I. You have a supreme qualification that trumps every other possible choice for the job.

You're doing it already. Wink Very Happy

Sure is. There's a phone right outside of the Chinese Theater. I haven't had much luck with it the past few weeks, so maybe you can give it a shot.

On a slightly related note, I checked out the Culver City axon, and I agree that I'd probably in the Sony Picture studio lot. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean we can't get to it. There's a visitor's entrance to the studio, so we can a) explain what we're doing, b) make up some excuse (i.e. picking someone up), or c) say we're going for the tour, and yes, there's a tour. So it's not out of the question, just might take a little more work. On the other hand, that axon group has always gone live without that particular phone, so I guess it's not a big deal if we don't go for it.

Those security guys at the front gate usually don't let anyone inside unless you are on "the list." If you aren't on "the list" and claim you need to enter the studio anyway, the security guard will proceed to use the phone to ask if anyone knows who you are. Basically, you don't get in if nobody inside the studio knows who you are.

As far as the tour goes, I've never gone on one, but I'm guessing they keep the tour-folk on a pretty tight leash.

Though I'm thinking if you really explain the situation, and explain that you really have to answer this payphone or else "you'll lose the game", they just might be nice enough to let you check it out. Although again, it'll be under a tight leash. Those security guys are tough mothers, even with the actors themselves. And also... What if the phone doesn't ring? Embarassed

Update:

First, the good news. I was able to enhottenate the 17:23 Burbank AMC Theatre axon without a hitch Wednesday evening. Whew!

Now, the questionable news. The 08:46 Burbank Airport Hilton axon did not ring Thursday morning. It did not ring this morning, either. And the phone's working fine, it accepts incoming calls, it rings audibly, and it was actually on the hook this time.

I've heard some rumblings that the Sleeping Princess's games might have interfered with Melissa's phone calls. However, I know that Melissa did continue to make at least some calls after Tuesday, even in axon sets that were already unlocked -- as noted above, I hit a "going_down" axon on Wednesday that I blew on Tuesday. Dunno

So, any theories as to what's going on at the other Burbank axon? And, more specifically, should I continue to drag my sorry @$$ over there for the next three mornings on the off-chance that Melissa will wake up and start calling again?

Hey everyone, I'm a part of the DC Axon Hunter Signal Corps, but I'm going to be out in LA on Tuesday this week and I'd love to help! I won't know much about my schedule until Monday, but I'll be glad to run around where I can. I see there are still a few axons at UCLA, and I'd be glad to help enhottenate those, since I know just where they are and where to park to get them!

Let me know if I can help.

Tom Bridge, CPO

I SHOULD be able to get all of the UCLA axons this week, since they're later in the day than usual, but you're more than welcome to come too if you'd like. I haven't met a single person axon hunting, so I wouldn't mind some company. Smile
