Good, well at least I'm not the only one who didn't get a reply to the email. I thought we would get one, since last week I got mine within about half an hour, so when I still hadn't gotten one this morning I started to panic. My friend was saying that maybe this week is some kind of contest, that whoever comes up with the best pictures will win and get
Quote:
[Melissa's] respect, and access to some hitherto highly confidential information

I can't think of anything else that this could be about, but still I think they would have at least sent replys saying something along the line of "Submission accepted" or something, but there was nothing. I find it funny that the message to the crew is still on recipe6, like Machiavelli said,
Quote:
I wonder if/when the message asking for pictures is going to be removed from the page. If I were a less devoted person, I might only have checked the page this morning, and would likely be mocking up a picture to send right now.

It doesn't say what date or anything, so theoretically we don't know when we were supposed to send them, as long as it was by midnight on whatever day they wanted. I'm not saying we did it on the wrong day, but what if we checked it today and it says send in a pic by midnight? It could cause some cofusion (as I'm sure this post has, so I'm sorry).
Oh, and [OT], how do I make it so quotes say who said it instead of just saying the quote?

No replay here either, then again I didn't submit it until about 11:00pm PDT. I hope she accepts it, really only my second serious photo done with Photoshop. So far my best work, the crew one I missed out on because I couldn't get a good one off in time. Crying or Very sad

I think that Melissa caught SP tagging along at her heals yesterday useing her phones. i would think that Melissa would not be very happy about that. Maybe she is too destracted locking SP down to reply to our email. Maybe she is working on what ever she has planned with Dana to catch SP.

Either that or the PMs thought that last week was way too crazy to reply to everyone again this week. Wink

Or, they want some time to go over all the entries and judge which ones they deem the best.

I may be remembering wrong, but I'm pretty sure when Melissa told us to submit a picture of a train, we were told we had to do it by midnight of the same day.

Put quote="l0rd0fm0rgul" inside brackets [] instead of just quote.

Umm...I thought she was just referring to your use of the word "bar" -- actually asking you whether the salad in 2004 was liquid, since it came from a bar. Dunno

At about 11:57 p.m. (PDT) last night, after spending 22 desperate minutes searching the web for appropriate images on an excruciating 56K dialup, I sent Melissa the following:

I wrote:
Here are two pairs of constructs for you. The first you may recognize: the flag of the United Nations in this time, and the flags of the United Nations Space Command. The second may be a little more obscure. In this time, meat is plentiful and readily available, and soy substitutes are more of an oddity than a staple. Enjoy.

I attached two pairs of images. One pair was the United Nations flag vs. what I sincerely hope was a screenshot of two players from a Halo "Capture the Flag" game. (Yes, there are even more disadvantages to not owning/never having played Halo! Mr. Green ) The other pair was a supermarket meat aisle vs. a rather unappetizing-looking tofu burger.

I also haven't heard back from Melissa, but then I never heard back from her last week either. I'm not too worried, because last week my picture did eventually make it into the "Navigation and Communication" section. (That's me in the top left corner -- she must've added them in reverse order or something, since I'm suddenly the first photo -- surrounded by books and a suspiciously-ILB-related computer screen. The sign, which was legible in the fullsize version I sent, says: "Lt. Cmdr. Shad0, Chief Information Officer." Whee!)

Special thanks to angelo not only for coddling me all day as I raced to various axons, but also for telling me about this challenge so that I had some time to think about what I wanted to send Melissa before I got home, despite never having access to a computer screen since before 8:00 a.m. (PDT).

I think people should avoid going too political with this stuff. After all, someone could send in a picture of an Elite and George W. Bush. Or an Elite and Bill Gates.

Also, there are some great pictures on halo2.com.au that you guys might want to make use of. Such as Master Chief in the Brisbane/Melbourne/Sydney CBDs with famous landmarks in the background.

I don't think there was anything political about my post. She asked for a construct from the present that she wouldn't recognize along with one from her time that she would. Besides, I don't think anyone from Al Qaeda is playing this ARG.

I thought of submiting the following, but didn't. The second picture was made by me in order to prove a point to someone on the RPGFan Message boards.

I used three different comparisons on three different subjects. I even included some text descriptions of the differences and similarities.

None are digitally enhanced - two are straight from halo, and the chatters are slightly changed wireless headset models I feel are good approximations of what chatters are. I figured it'd be better to find things that made sense without being too heavily changed - it was the only way to take the 2552 pictures all that seriously, seeing as I'm not the best at realistic Photoshopping.

I hope this gets me in Melissa's good favor. I'd love to be crew but never get the chance to even find a payphone around here. Crying or Very sad

EDIT: Ah, what the hey, these go better with their written explanations. Here's a transcript of my e-mail to the Op:

Quote:
Ma'am:

I have attached several of my findings which compare 2004 constructs to those of 2552, in the form of visuals. Further explanation, if wanted, is below. If you want or need any more information on these topics, feel free to reply with any questions.

Military Transport

2004: The Jeep is an all-terrain vehicle which can transport military personnel quickly across most areas. The Jeep can be outfitted with some weaponry and self-defense to help protect soldiers in the field.

2552: The Warthog is essentially a very advanced form of the Jeep, a three-man all-terrain vehicle with better armor and more advanced available weaponry, such as a chaingun or missile launcher.

Personal Communication

2004: The cellular phone (cell phone for short) is a handheld device used to communicate with people across the globe. Using "telephone numbers" assigned to each cellular device, users can call each other and communicate. The cell phone network is primitive and competitive due to corporations which control the networks, and only limited steps have been taken to move past simple voice communication. You are already familiar with these phones to some extent - a few crew members have used them now as axons.

2552: The ChatterNet is, in comparison to the cell phone network, immeasurably sophisticated - it serves as an identification tool, a communication network, and a way to keep track of everyone on the planet. The device is planet in the ear, as opposed to the handheld cell phone.

Global Threat

2004: On September 11, 2001, a Middle Eastern-based terrorist network known as Al Qaeda attacked the United States of America using hijacked commercial airliners, crashing into and destroying the World Trade Center in New York City. This attack created a pressing global concern for the safety of all people from such suicidal, extremist attacks. A "war on terrorism" is declared, and people hope to be able to overcome this inhumanity with freedom and democracy.

2552: Though terrorism is not entirely gone in this era, a much greater alien threat has superceded it. Beginning with the "glassing" of planet Harvest, the Covenant have become the most pressing threat to human existence as we know it. Unlike terrorists, the Covenant are entirely alien, and can control technology vastly superior to our own, with intellects that may surpass ours as well. This threat may very well bring about the end of the human race if not stopped.

Here's one of the set I sent in. I didn't really add any descriptions, because I thought that they were all pretty self explanatory.
