I am using IE, but like I said it's the Japanese version. I don't know -- could there be a cookie or something that's flipping me to a different picture? I can't tell, but I found that perplexity.net/images/ has the picture I was looking at, the blue image in it.

I wish I could use a desteg program or something, because a big swirly kind of fractal picture like that with the address www.perplexity.net/? is just -begging- to be hiding something.

I saved the picture and put a copy of it on my own page, so anyone can have a look if they're interested. It's shiny but I can't make anything of it, other than it's odd appearance for just me. Wink

Right, well, that's exceedingly weird. I'll take it home and look at the .jpg on one of my other machines and see if it changes. I guess there wasn't any proof that perplexity.net was In Game, so this might just be a random occurrence.

hmm, i checked the whois on www.perplexity.net and it is not an anonymous name and is registered to one burin asavesna from fort worth texas.

this leads me to believe that it is out of game, but who knows.

[edit] i tried to decamoflauge the blue picture, but with no sucess

...I doubt that a browser malfunction would make a polished image like this. It's not pixelated or skewed or something, and as far as I know this laptop doesn't have monitoring software on it that might blank out offensive images. But just in case, I'll view it on a second terminal to see what comes up. It's pretty weird, though, that a .jpg would display two vastly different images for different people. And it's not only me -- another poster sees the same blue image.

"blue swirly image" for me as well - is there some sort of caching problem here? The "last modified date" on the file is 20th October 2004.

Razor blade

wtf?? I don't see a razor blade. I see a swirly blue thing - looks a bit like a stylized closeup of a brain or something. I'm on a mac? What are you razor blade people on?

ok, i just checked with IE - same swirly pic there for me...

i have 2 sperate ideas:
1. the ppl who see the razorblade pic have that in their cache (try shift+reload to see what happens) - unlikely tho, but you never know.
2. some kind of scripting that changes the pic. unlikely, because for me the image in /images/ is that swirly pic too.

Perplexity.org

There is also a perplexity.org - Not much there though except an eyeball and a couple of philosophical quotes.

---edit---
Oh, and some unusual stuff in the /images directory hmmm.
---edit---
But alas, it is registered to someone called Dan Sinclair, so is probably not part of the cube quest

the trouble with all this stuff is that it should be perplexcity not perplexity

Okay, so apparently the latin phrase that's above the symbol that one clicks on to get to the next page and that is seen in the close up on that next page, "quaerere initium sapientiae", roughly translated by someone that doesn't know any latin (read: me), means "to serach for the first clue/knowledge." Here's my little breakdown:
Quaerere: to search, to try to learn, etc. (I believe it's the infinitive)
Initum: the beggining, the first (don't know what form it's in, but it's the right one for that particular form of the next word)
Sapientiae: knowledge, information (I believe that this is in that subject-of-the-sentance-case (gimme a break, I failed Sanskrit))

I think its better translated (and not having that much Latin myself as]
Learning Is The Beginning Of Knowledge

Regards

Mark. Very Happy

ok, i don't know if anybody did this before (seems kidna obvious), but a search didn't yield any results: i image-googled "perplexcity" and got this:

which belongs to a website where syzygy ist mentioned (scroll down a little):
http://infocult.typepad.com/infocult/.
the image doesn't appear on that webpage, though....
